My Daughter Is Taking Her First ACT Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

There's no focking way you scored 32 out of 36. (I believe 36 is the highest possible?)

Your sentence structure in the above post reads closer to a 14, assuming you ever took them at all.

Seriously man. Just stop.

I took the SAT twice and barley spelled my name right on the thing. Did well in school but crappy in college without the benefit of at least hard parting or getting laid every week. So I personally think that your score on such examines is a good indicator of success in college. But like I said what do I know plus the public school system in this country is so poor. It was my observation that students coming from private high schools were much better prepared for college. My parents raised me poorly too oh now I am rambling. Should have become a monk.

It does seem like those tests are pretty good indicators.

Part of me wants to think that, intellectually, we are more than some score from a standardized test.

But take the LSAT for example. My experience was people who did well on it tended to do pretty well in law school. If you were top 20% in the class it was virtually guaranteed you had a good LSAT score. And there was basically no one in the bottom half of the class who had a good score, no matter how much they focked off in class.

There were a few people who did very well despite a poor score but they were the exception to the rule.

Now SAT/ACT, I don't think was as highly correlated. College is more about doing the work than natural aptitude. At least when it comes to majors other than hard science/math.

Djgb is a genius, guys. Embrace it

No even I know I'm not a genius. Above average? Yes. Studying always came easy cause I could look at it once or twice and remember it. I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could actually learn a lot of the hard subjects but the truth of the matter is I don't find them interesting and would rather not do that

I scored 32. :dunno:

2. You don't lie about every single aspect of your life on a lightly trafficked message board. (As far as we know)

A 32 on the ACT is top 98th percentile. It correlates to a 2100 on the SAT, which roughly correlates to a 1400 back when I took it (max 1600). I got a 1440 which was by far the highest in my HS and #2 out of the 12 pledges in my MIT fraternity. So basically DJGB is really smart.

When I took the SAT it was 1600 as well. I didn't do as well o the SAT. 1280 on it. The college baseball coach loved it though cause I already had scholarships so they didn't need to give me a scholarship.

It surprises me more kids at MIT didn't have higher scores. IIRC, the median SAT score at MIT around the time I was looking at college was high 1300's. I guess the frat boys were less bright than the rest?

How much deeper can this hole get? Will you stop when you reach the earth's mantle, or will you keep going all the way to the inner core?

Well, a few comments. One, "frat boys" is a bit misleading at a place like MIT. It's not like it was Animal House. Housing in Cambridge/Boston near the river is fairly unavailable and fraternities owned a lot of it; as such when I was there they housed 40% of the undergraduate males. That is a really high number and resulted in a close symbiotic relationship between the fraternities and the institution.

Two, MIT attendees tend to not rock out the verbal part of the SAT. In my case, I had never gotten higher than a 600 in any practice test, but in my first try at the real test I got a 690. I had a 750 in the math and the competitor in me wanted to take it again to get an 800, but I didn't think I'd get above 640 on a subsequent verbal, so I stood pat with my first score.

Play an instrument, sing, paint, practice law, carve wood, work on cars (can change my oil and a tire but that's about it), etc. I'm actually very humble but you guys seem to blow things out of proportion

Yea I camp, fish, hunt, etc. As far as mountain climbing goes I'm not gonna do that sh1t where they have to hammer sh1t I the side of a mountain scaling up it vertically. Fock that. But I'll hike up one. Hunting I do deer and duck with some geese if they fly over our way. Did a little wild boar hunting in Texas with my buddies. Gonna try pheasant hunting next month with my FIL when I head to Nebraska. Never hunted that before.

Sorry the thread took this sorta turn Bunny, but the kid just won't stop.

Our young genius doctor/baseball star/mountaineer/huntsman seems incapable of recalling which entity paid for his "schoolin'"

Maybe this will help him sort this out and he can clear it all up for us.

"Best Phone Call: senior in high school and the head coach from USC called and said they wanted to offer me a scholarship to play ball with them which I eventually did"

You said earlier the baseball team was happy they didn't have to give you a scholarship since you already had the SC finest geniuses scholarship locked down.

And, uh....USC is a public school, isn't it?, yet........was it a private school when you went there?

"I went to a private school for baseball. Got the academic scholarship from SC (believe it was $7,000 a year), baseball scholarship ($500 a year), and I think a grant or two. I just remember not having to pay and getting a change check at the beginning of the semester for like $2,000."

Yet... Earlier in the thread, you said you were awarded the Palmetto finest scholarship, which turned out to be the Palmetto Fellowes Scholarship.

But wait. The private school must be this one. But I'm still confused. How do you not remember the name of your college? Especially when they were literally paying not only your tuition, but also your beer money.

"Francis Marion. Had a girl i was dating pretty seriously convince me to go there with her. I was offered to go play at Coastal, UNCW, UNCP, Appalachian State, Florence Darlington Tech, University of Kentucky, and University of South Carolina wanted me to go play at USC Salkahatchie for two years then transfer to them. Like I said I played ball with the coach of coastal Carolina growing up so I knew him well. He got a couple other guys I played with to go there and play. Looking back I really regret following my ex to that college because she really made my life a living hell and I never ended up with her"

Please clarify. But maybe you should sleep on it before you do.

I guess the genius' test taking skills have also slipped a bit since high school.

http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=456567&&page=2

"Thanks guys! I actually felt like I could have done better on it. Ran out of time on two of the math sections. So I had to guess on 2-3 questions in both of those sections. If I had a little more time to study for it I feel I could easily beat the score I got. But I got my unofficial results which was a 304. 297 is require to get in one of the schools I'm applying to so the score I got is a good competitive score. That along with my military experience and the job I'm working at now catapults me to the top of the list of candidates. Now I just need to send in my application and I should get accepted into at least one of the schools :)"

Yes. That clears up everything. Except.......pretty much everything. It doesn't really matter.

I guess one of the cool things about this place is the relative anonymity.

It's a place where people are mostly free to express their thoughts and ideas on a variety of topics, as long as they aren't over the top offensive.

But for some, it's more a place where they can create an alternate reality for themselves.

Good luck on your life man.

You've said you played college baseball at USC and were given a scholarship to do so.

You've also said you played college baseball at Francis Marion.

You also said your baseball coaches were happy they didn't have to give you a scholarhsip since you had the academic scholarship.

You said you scored 32 on your ACT, but barely eeked out a passing score for bedpan handler trade school entrance exams. Plus, you're clearly just not too smart.

Your lies just don't add up. But, that's nothing new for you.

Nah the USC was back when I was trying to obscure my identity per military policy. But I did get a call from USC coach and they were wanting me to go. Like I said my ex influenced my decision on where I went.

Clearly you have a problem. You can handle someone actually having a successful life. You also have what we call a stalking problem. It irks you SO bad that you live and breathe trying to find something only to come up empty handed so now you're trying to twist things to make it seem like you do. Fact is you're pathetic and cant accept the fact that someone is actually smart and athletic. Sorry bud but you have issues and your actions suggest you need to seek out a psychologist cause this runs a lot deeper. My guess is some girl cheated on you, broke your heart, and now you can't trust anyone.

Stop being a pathetic loser and MAYBE we can talk. Til then keep living in your fantasties

The fact is I honestly don't know. I played on a team during the fall that you had to be invited to play on. It put you in front of scouts every weekend. We didn't practice cause we were from all over the state. We just played on saturdays and Sunday's. So during the week I went to football practice and played on Friday nights then did baseball on sat and sun.
