Those of you predicting a Bears blowout--its not going to happen. One thing we will get out of this game is a testiment on which direction each of these two teams is headed.

For Detroit to win they will have to play over their heads, and need some key backups to continue performing well.  Two good defenses and struglling offenses.  I like the Lions takeway ability, but losing Bly is a crushing blow.

 

Overall Chicago is a fundamentally better team.  There are some intangibles leaning in Motowns favor - Garcia's first home game, more upside to lil' Jeff than Orton - but in this kind of game I want a 25 carry wear em down back.

KR Eddie Drummond: Still questionable with knee injury.

 

Andre Goodman has played well this year. I don't anticipate he'll put the team on his back and will them to win the way Bly did against the Ravens.

 

Dan Wilkinson needs to step up - hard to expect anything from Marcus Bell or Shaun Cody.

 

R.W. McQuaters is an adequate CB, but is he the same threat Drummond has been for years?

 

WR Kevin Johnson: Out for season with ruptured Achilles tendon that may need

surgery.

 

WR Charles Rogers: One game left in suspension for substance abuse.

 

WR Roy Williams: Still questionable with strained hamstring.

 

Scotty Vines, BMW et al need to play over their heads with all the WR injuries.

Fundamentally, TJ has had a far better year than KJ.

 

Defensively - Bears are 2nd in ppg; Lions are 11th. Against the rush, Bears 4th, Lions 13th. Versus the pass, Bears 9th, Lions 12th. They're 9th/10th in sacks.

 

On offense they rank 23rd and 25th - is there really that much to discuss?

If the Lions lose to the Bears a second time this season, then it is obvious that the Bears are headed in the right direction. If the Lions win this game, then it goes to show you that the Lions are headed in the right direction; even with half their starting lineup injured or out.

 

For the Bears fans who are touting week 2 as the greatest victory of all time, don't forget you beat the Lions who most of you have said is the most pitiful franchise in the history of football. The Bears were destroyed by the Bengals the next week @ Chicago, traveled to Cleveland after that and were soundly defeated even with TJ running for 137 yards, beat Minnesota and then barely squeaked by a Baltimore team lacking a number of its starters. The Lions didn't show up in week 2 and were destroyed by the Bears, they traveled to Tampa and found a way for Joey to give the Bucs a victory, they destroyed a Baltimore team with all of its defensive starters in place, they again grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory against a tough Carolina team and finally defeated Cleveland on the road.

 

What we all fail to recognize is the any given week rule. I expected Detroit to lose to Chicago in week 2. Of course, not that lopsided of a game, but a loss nonetheless. The Lions won a tremendous victory in week 1 and they just plain didn't move past that and prepare for week 2.

 

You guys can talk all the trash you want between now and Sunday, but the real answer to this question will be played out at Ford Field. Who will be the division leader Sunday afternoon? Chicago has the better D, a healthier team and only lacks at QB so it should be a foregone conclusion that they will win. I guess we will see what happens!

Schlesinger and Urlacher have had some good battles.  I dont expect this one to be any different.  It'll be a fun game to watch, and I think the Lions eek this out 24-19.  Those of you predicting a Bears blowout--its not going to happen.  One thing we will get out of this game is a testiment on which direction each of these two teams is headed.

yep, here's "sabotage" i've done at packer threads this summer:

 

1) some packer fans say "the guards are easily replaced." i provide data to the contrary and tell them to expect big issues--especially given their interior o-line faces good interior d-lines in det, minny, chi six times a year. the result? name calling, profanity, and posts that question my mental stability.

 

2) some packer fans say the packers will win their 4th-straight nfcn title. i say i see them winning 5-8 games and fighting for third at best. the result? name calling, profanity, and posts that question my mental stability.

 

3) some packer fans say the route is on in week 1, no problem. i say "i'll give you the packers and 10 points." more hoots and hollers and questioning of my sanity.

 

4) i say harrington will have a better rating in week 1 than favre. one packer fan (who never came forward and the post mysteriously disappeared) laughed big time at that and took the bet.

 

 

in short, packer fans started a variety of threads with pretty much the same thesis: "the pack will always be the pack and 2005 will be no different than it has been the past 14 years." when i provided opinion to the contrary--and gave reasons why i thought that way--the personal venom started. when i'm right? it gets even worse with the name calling and discrediting (oddly enough).

 

i really don't care. it's a silly message board and they can talk and say and do what they want. but the above perspective is needed, of which the packer fans will howl at and discredit by (tada) more personal attacks. it's a predictable pattern.

I never said the Lions suck. I offered a bet to Sampdog who constantly says the Bears suck (he stalks the Bears at 1/8th the rate of the Packers; but that's still a huge amount). He didn't take it, despite the numerous posts that the Lions are great and the Bears suck.

 

It's that simple. There is huge difference between me and Sampdog. Sampdog has a huge obsession with Packers because he lives in the UP and gets molested by Packer fans on a daily basis. I have nothing against the Lions; I actually root for them most the time because there's no hatred built up over the years like the Vikes and the Bears. You just have one obsessive a-hole poster that we can't resist calling out his lies and delusion.

Has nothing to do with Lions fans at all. Every Lion fan I ever met has been pretty cool.
