Geek Vegas hotel recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Haven't been to Vegas in 20 yrs. Wife & I going in June. Not big gamblers, just a good opportunity to meet up with my bro and his wife for a couple days relaxation.

We're spoiled, and into the creature comforts. Not the Trumps, mind you, but looking for hotel with nice ammenities. Any recommendations? TIA.

Someone around here was thinking the Rio was all that. Who was that again? Anyway, I personally like the Bellagio and Paris. A good website to check out all the various hotels and amenities (except for maybe the really new ones) is

http://www.vegas.com

I stayed at the Flamingo last November for a friend's wedding. Given what you like, I'd stay away. It's serviceable, but nothing fancy.

The most beaten into the ground topic in the history of fftoday. :D

I'll be nice though, Bally's is the best deal accross the board if you are looking for location and value. The rooms aren't Bellagio nice but nice.

I thought MGM was nice. But it was the only one I tried out.

MGM is all right, but it's not really "high end" as JT seems to be looking for. :shocking:

Rio was OK. The pool was greta, if you are looking for ways to relax and have down time during the day.

I didn't like how far it was from the strip tho. Next time I think I'll try MGM as the restaurants were good, casino was in good shape, and it is a walk out the door to other places.

I like Bellagio too. And Wynn. And TheHotel at Mandalay. :shocking:

MandalayBay or "The Hotel" at Mandalay.

11 acre Beach and Wave Pool means BUTT!!!!.........a great feature when you're on a bad streak at the tables...................but then I take myself waaaay to seriously!!! :wall:

If you are looking high end you need to add the Ventian and Wynn to the list.

Try Monte Carlo for a decent 2nd tier Casino located right in the middle of the strip.

For location and best price The Flamingo is pretty good because it is right in the middle of the strip so you can pretty much walk to about 15 different Casino's. Taking taxis everywhere will rape you. That being said you're not going to get anything mind blowing at The Flamingo, it's kinda old school and anything old school in Vegas usually means not as flashy and more white trash.

I personally was impressed by the Bellagio and girls get horny as soon as they see the fountains there.

The Mirage was also nice, I would recommend Tresure Island or Ceasers as well. NYNY is sweet, rode the coaster...for like $20

The poontang is absolutely off the hook, I saw the most poon at Ceasers....but it'll be everywhere.

Spend the extra $$$$ and go with Bellagio...unlesss you plan on spending most of yer time out and about then just get something central and cheap on the strip like The Flamingo

"The Hotel" at Mandalay.

It reminded me of a W Hotel and the pool at MB is great. Try and get into the Foundation Room at the top of MB for dinner or drinks.

The rooms at Mandalay bay are very nice. The rooms at THEHotel are outrageous. The pool is second to none. If you can afford THEHotel, do it. If not, and standard Mandalay room is a great bet.

If you want to step down a notch to a nice room in a less posh hotel, Monte carlo is you bet. Still a decent pool, but without the frills. Either way, Monte carlo has a great brew pub in the lobby.

i stayed at Bellagio and it was real fancy and had a good pool area to relax at. if you want to go upscale thats a pretty good place to go.

i didn't stay at Wynn or Venetian but they both seem ideal too.

I have to agree with EM here. I stayed at Bally's and really liked it. The casino sucked, but the room was excellent and reasonable. It's central location on the strip is ideal. Plus with being connected to Paris we ate over there everyday (they have the best casino atmosphere in my opinion). If you like motown music you'll love Bally's Indigo lounge.

My girlfriend and I paid the same btwn us for our own room as my friends did staying at The Mirage. They packed 6-8 peeople into a room smaller and not as nice as ours.

But i would like to stay at the Venetian some day.

Stay on the Strip.

Vegas Hotels on the Strip

from there, decide by price and ameneties:

Tier 1: Bellagio, Venetian, Mandelay, and Wynn

- of course everyone likes these places. they're luxurious and expensive.

- Bellagio is probably #1. great location, classy atmoshpere.

- Venetian is probably #2. great location, huge hotel with indoor mall, shops, etc. Rooms are all suites.

- Mandelay. Located way down the end of the strip (loses points for location) Beautiful, newer hotel though.

- Wynn. Located at the other end of the strip (loses points for location) but it's the new buzz. Wynn is the same guy that built the Bellagio.

Tier 2: Paris, MGM, Caesar's, NewYork-NY, Aladdin, Monte Carlo, Luxor

- Paris probably #1 out of this group depending on what your exact tastes are. The Paris is pretty classy.

- Caesars is without question the biggest of them all. The hotel and grounds are huge. There's lots to do and see at Ceasars but some people don't like it because it's just too big and spread out.

- maybe a tie between MGM and NY-NY here. NY-NY isn't that big but it has a cool novelty feel and the ESPN bar. MGM is bigger and probably better for those looking for more casino action.

- Monte Carlo. probably the best bang for your buck in Vegas. It's a classy hotel, good location on the strip, and doesn't cost a fortune.

- Aladdin and Luxor. The Aladdin was bought out by Planet Hollywood, so they may be renovating. Luxor is rumored to have small rooms and a tough location being down the end of the strip. As much as the Paris could slip into tier 1, Luxor could slip into tier 3.

Tier 3: Treasure Island, Excalibur, Flamingo, Bally's

Flamingo or Bally's has the best location of these 3.

Tier 4: Sig Ep's house

the pool is out of order and has been for a while. the wome are all plasticy with fake cans and whatnot.

true but most seemed to be wanna' be upscale Californians looking for RockStar bank accounts.

also, the Hard Rock is pretty far off the strip.
