parrot 789 Posted May 22, 2006 Can we put an asterisk next to his historical entry in the governors list? I would think that would be SOP for any public official forced to resign due to scandal.
hoffdaddy 1 Posted May 22, 2006 fudge packer? It'd be improper if he was straight or gay. I guess I just find it sad that guy has to lie he entire life about his sexual orientation. That shouldn't have to happen.

davebg 0 Posted May 22, 2006 Forced from office. Quite the free pass he got there. What exactly would you like to see happen to him? Well...let me ask you...when he's on Oprah pushing his new book, do you think she'll be asking him the tough questions about his cheating and lying and endangering the lives of everyone who lives in NJ? Do you think she's going to crush him like she did that Frye guy who had the audacity to exaggerate some stories about himself in a book? Or do you think it's going to be one of those softball interviews where everyone kisses his ass for being so brave to come out w/his story? As for him losing his wife...his fault...if he knew he was gay, then he shouldn't have gotten married. Again, who's the victim here? Him or his wife? By all reports she didn't do anything wrong. Yet, she was the one cheated on...she was the one who was lied to...she was the one who unknowingly risked exposure to god knows what kind of STDs...she is the one who has custody of their kids and has to explain it to them and pick up the pieces. As for him losing his job...again...his fault (for reasons that I've explained previously.) Will he ever be able to run for office again? Doubt it. Of course, after this book deal (I read he's getting about $500k) I think he'll be OK. So, when you consider all of that...plus the fact that some of the crap he pulled in office could have resulted in charges (if the NJ political machine wasn't so damn corrupt), yes, I think he got off pretty easy. spottedowl 1 Posted May 22, 2006 The 30-Year Secret A crime, a cover-up and the way it shaped Oregon. BY NIGEL JAQUISS | njaquiss at wweek.com Neil Goldschmidt When the story of late-20th-century Oregon is written, Neil Goldschmidt will tower over most other public figures. His accomplishments as mayor and governor have stood the test of time. It is also true, however, that his incomprehensible involvement with an adolescent babysitter changed both of their lives forever and—although few people knew about it—the secret profoundly affected Oregon history. No one can say with certainty how much of the arc of the woman’s life was shaped by the man who molested her starting when she was 14. But it is clear that today, on her 43rd birthday, living a thousand miles from her friends and family in Portland, she is a haunted woman. http://www.wweek.com/story.php?story=5091 Another POS. I don't watch a lot of Oprah, which is to say I never watch Oprah, so I wouldn't know how she would treat him. Nor would I care how Oprah treats him. When did Oprah become the voice of the society? What kind of pass did he get from O'Reilly, or Hannity, or Malkin? Though I haven't really followed the story, I'm quite certain he has had to endure plenty of derision over the whole thing. Also, I think Oprah had every right to fry Frye. She made his focking career only to find out his supposed true memoir was a pack of lies. She had every right to try and regain her credibility. While I do not watch Oprah either, for you to indicate that she doesn't hold a great deal of influence among some pretty significant swaths of society is just ignant. Of course, I was merely using her as an example...and thank you for kind of driving my point home a little more. Just to summarize your position: lying to your wife, family & constituents...putting their lives in danger NOT AS BAD AS making some sh|t up in your memoir

davebg 0 Posted May 22, 2006 Uh, yeah. I never said anything even remotely close to that, but, you're welcome. Really? B/c you pretty much endorsed Oprah's pre-meditated homicide of Frey's career, yet seem to be indicating that McGreevey has been through enough...I can see where a book deal worth a half mil that details the lying and corruption that defines his stay as governor would be quite a steep price to pay. Yes, really. This discussion would make more sense if your Mangravy/Frey analogy didn't suck so bad, but regardless... When did I indicate McGreevey has been through enough? You said he got a free pass. I pointed out he was driven from his job and villified in large segments of the media. Not a great definition of "free pass". Comprende? And yes, I think Oprah's pre-meditated homicide of Frey's career was completely justified given the fact that he used her to make his career AND IS A FOCKING LIAR. This has nothing to do with your completely imagined kid-gloves handling of McGreevey. I HOPE THIS IS CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU. If not, go back to your strawmen. davebg 0 Posted May 22, 2006 This discussion would make more sense if your Mangravy/Frey analogy didn't suck so bad, but regardless... You're right...the analogy wasn't the greatest. Hence, my point. Frey's offense of lying in his own memoir was not nearly as bad as what McGreevey did. Yet, Frey's life is rooned, while McGreevey has a nice new boyfriend, can live the life he chooses and has a phat paycheck coming for the book detailing his misdeeds. That was my whole point all along. Maybe if I had somehow managed to blame Bush for it all then you would have been more receptive.

gocolts 300 Posted May 22, 2006 Then maybe you should see if your city offers any literacy training. Maybe you should not give someone a free pass, just because they are a phag. This guy is one of the biggest scum-bags alive. You won't talk about the the fact he hired his boytoy with no government experience or even us citizenship to be a key player in jersey's homeland security is absolutelty unforgivable,as Terrysilver said. Or that he resigned, but with a time table of months latter,so the people couldn't elect who they want. All your worried about is that he is a phag.
