Jerry Porter...DUMB pick league...Draft COMMENTARY...take 2.

Recommended Posts

Leftwich is a nice pick for the 13th round, but he fell this far for a reason. He's less mobile than even Drew Bledsoe, and is still yet to pass for more than 15TDs after 3 years of starting, and just lost his best receiver. He is what he is.....a decent bye week fill in.

well, im from jax so i kind of had to pick lefty...hes my 3rd QB anyway, maybe i can use my other qbs as trade bait and grab a solid player...hes just a 3rd QB for me, im not expecting much.

you're lucky - that's who I was going to nab as my QB3 before I noticed Pittman sitting there.

;)

Scooter, you of all people just announced my undrafted #2 qb while he is still on the market :D . I agreed on not mentioning names throughout the draft and you just flucked up. If you are so down on Galloway, why did you draft simms as your #2 qb saying he has the potential to do really well? I know it's not because of the Wr #2 in clayton?

Three licks with the paddle for that one! Not to mention 2 undrafted QB's?

oops. :P

since there are still 4 or 5 QBs I' take before either of the guys I mentioned, I guess it slipped my mind. Shoulda known you'd think they were made of gold.

No, seriously - I'm just not feeling well and wasn't thinking when I posted. Well, I mean I was thinking, just not of the rule. My bad.

One tip though - announcing that one of them was to be your QB2 was a dumb move...shoulda just used the email link and I would have editored my post and none woulda been the wiser. In a way, your broadcasting your pick is worse than my mentioning him.

Anyway, won't happen again.

As for why I am high on Simms but not Galloway, it's simple: Galloway is what he is - a 30+++ guy coming off a career year. He will have a decent season if he stays healthy - maybe 1000/7. But to expect him to repeat last years numbers and draft him that high when there was so much talent on the board was a bit foolish.

So yes - I like Galloway. No, I do not like him as a WR1 on any FFB team. More like a WR4.

Nice pick-up with Davenport GP. I considered taking him, but decided to let someone else have Green Bay's #1 RB for his 13 carries before getting injured again.

I was expecting Lefty to slip to me and I would of taken him as a safe pick/backup. He's at the top of the board of crappy QBs who will get you something every week unless injured.

I was planning on drafting Lefty and Leinart. I'll never forget Mr. Brenda Warner being out for the season with a broken pinkie while Farve started every game with a broken thumb. Leinart will have that job by Jake Delhome's bye week 9 IMO. It is as easy of a job as any rookie QB could hope to step into with the talent around him.

Speaking of Farve, does anyone else remember a night game late in the season where he threw a "no look" pass in the red zone. Announcers missed it, but they showed two camera angles and Farve looked at his WR on the right while he threw over the middle freezing a LB just long enough. He throws too many INTs for this scoring system, but I enjoy his game.

Vince Young may have come back around to me, but I did not want to risk it. His ceiling is unimaginable to me, and certainly higher than any other QB left. True this won't be his career year, but Vince Young COULD be the #1 fantasy QB for the next decade.

:ninja:

2 rookie QBs?

put down the crack pipe. Tell joc you're high enough and don't need him to score for you this week.

:(

By the way - just how many times are we going to skip Sweetness?

I mean, this is like a whole round gone by now...at some point it's going to become a major handicap for him...

You very well might be right. I just think Ahman's not coming back so fast from the rupture. D'port's just got a broken ankle, which I hear he will be ready for training camp. I believe he's a good value pickup for the end of the 13 round. He won't be starting for me, but I think the potential's there to be a good fill in.

Samie Parker is a guy I will key on in drafts. He'll consistently be picked several rounds after Kennison & will push for #1 fantasy WR in KC. I seriously doubt many will see his potential until well into the season.

Kennison is 33 and his best years are likely in the books. He's been a solid FF contributor for the last couple years posting 1000+ and 5-8 TDs. (I'd still consider him a solid #3 WR).

Samie earned his way into a starting role last year. (2nd year in the NFL) With 8 starts, he logged 533 yards & 3 TDs. During a 5 game stretch (wk 12-16) Samie had more targets & receptions than Kennison.

As a Gonzo owner last season, it drove me absofreakinlootly nutz that he was kept in to block on many passing situations. If I were a defensive coordinator & knew Gonzo will stay in to block if I show the right front...I've just taken Trent's #1 target out of the play. Not too shabby.

It all spells a great chance for a new #1 WR to surface in KC this season.

Vince Young would not have been drafted. His 'decade' of dominance will probably start in about 2 years...I just looked him up on a list in an early mag that Ive used as a checklist, and he's not even in the magazine.......... but, hey, he's your guy and youve got him. I believe in taking a guy no matter when or where as long as you think he'll produce....I just dont see much production there with him. Ill predict he'll be the first guy you cut...anywhere between NOW and week 2. :P

I wanted Parker the last 2 picks...I just couldn't pull the trigger with TGonz & TGreen on my team already.

Nice pick. 3rd year breakout candidate, and a legit one. He's too short to get much opportunity in the red zone, but that's TGonz & LJ territory anyway.

For deep speed threat, I think Parker will put up some solid numbers this year. Nice pick.

I also wanted to take Samie Parker but instead I went with scooter's boy Brandon LLoyd recently departed from the 49ers's. Not sure how good lloyd will be, but like scooter he has gonzo and green, I have LJ and that's enough Chiefs on my roster. We are starting to get thin all over the place now....must be time for that defense and back up defense - ha!

This has been fun so far :first:

Funny, I was thinking the same thing when considering LJ Smith and Reggie Brown earlier. I already have Westy and McNabb. Hate to be too invested with any one team.

Smart play. Too many eggs in one basket can really hurt.

The only time this worked for me was LT2/Gates when I got Gates in the 9th round.

Except those two both came up a bit short in the championship game, so I lost.

Still won $400 for the effort of finishing 2nd though.

Your old magazine ranks according to safe bets. As my third QB, Vince has a higher ceiling this year than many QBs drafted before him IMO. The undrafted starting QB before him has been a career backup for a reason. He is a career backup QB being asked to start for the first time. D film scouts will have him figured out by week 5 if not sooner. D film scouts will struggle much more to figure Vince out. I do not forsee them bringing in another QB, as it would hinder Vince's growth, who the Titan's regard as their future.

Just how deep is that old mag's checklist?? Where was FWParker on that list last year??

The list goes 50 deep, and Im sure those experts took into consideration just how much that TN offensive line sucks......and I had FWP on my primary team last year week 1.....picked him up off waivers the day of my draft....ended up trading him away after week 1 for a 1st and a 4th...... so I know a player worthy of opportunity when I see one. Vince Young is not in a position of opportunity right now because his team doesnt have the Oline of the Steelers, but again, he's your guy, you like him, and who am I to discourage you? I really think Vince has a bright future......just not for a couple of years.

there will be absolutely no changes to scoring system. Just like anyone else, the chronology of my picks is based on it.

Now that he's gone, I have a ? regarding Cobbs. I haven't done my homework on him, and I don't want to miss on something good in later drafts.

1. Myth or fact? Going by memory, Skeletor does not start rookie running backs.

2. What are Cobbs' credentials? I think he is a rook & a late round pick to boot.

3. Odds he will see the light of day in Denver THIS SEASON.

I think he has tremendous potential as a RB flier. If Dayne folds & Tater doesn't become an every down back...Cobbs is in a good situation assuming he's next in line. What are your thoughts on him?

Let me mark off Cedric Cobbs and Vince Young off my list - - OOps my running back list ends at 80 and no Cobbs and Qb at 50 and no Young  . I'M PLAYING WITH ROOKIES I TELL YA!

In my opinion, there is another Denver RB that might be a better prospect. I mention no names and probably won't draft him. Denver is always such a fantasy mess at rb...lol

I know that you have been sick, and that it is a bit of a pain in the arse, but can you update the teams in the draft thread, Scoot?

By the way, I know this is a free league and all but could we get the live update scoring? I think it's $10. Quit wasting your money sponsoring that unicef child and throw your pennies at this cause!

Clash and Scooter - - update needed on picks please! You guys are doing great, almost 3/4 of the way there so keep it up!

This draft has been great, gives me something to look forward to each day in the ff world, and wow June flew by. This draft should end middle/late July and that means only 1 1/2 months to go. Man I like the slow 12 hour draft early in the season!

Don't you punks come asking for a trade either when Taylor or Foster are putting up huge #'s in the first 3 weeks and one of them is on my bench! Ok maybe for a stud WR I might!

And who the hell drafted two rookie qb's back to back when starting qb's are left on the board? Ha - you won't be receiving the :first:

Damn you scooter on Eric Parker - He's fast - - his typical day is 3 receptions 99 yards and 1 td (64yd td)

The guy is always left one on one with the safety guarding McCardell, Gates, or looking at LT

I like this pick alot!

I also really like the Parker pick. He's another guy I nearly took last round since I'm shy on WRs. The guy works his a$$ off. He doesn't have the flashiest speed or make highlight reel catches, but he's a servicable backup who will have some decent games. Perfect for a BYE or occasional matchup play.

Scooter. I know you been sick an all, but your updated list has some flaws in case you haven't noticed. Clash's WR line is joined with his RB line. Also, you put two of my picks under Yippy's team. Thanks. Hope your feeling better.
