Worst pick ever made?

Recommended Posts

We actually had someone draft a dead guy! :pointstosky: I can't remember the players name but he died in the offseason.

Might have been Fred Lane. We had somebody draft him a month and a half after he died. Here's the really big surprise, dude was drafting out of a magazine!

running a league this year. got a lot of solid ff players who know what they are doing. BUT 2 of the 10 guys

in the league are first timers, one did well and the other...ummm.....just look :pointstosky:

1.9 r. bush

2.2 t. brady

3.9 r. wayne

4.2 here is the big one AMANI TOOMER

after that one i pulled him aside and talked to him and suprisingly he ended with a decent team, if bush has a big year that is. could not believe that pick, amani toomer???

i almost felt bad for him, but didnt. he'll learn.

I took Daunte Culpepper in Rd 1 last year (start 2qb), and Ahman Green in Round 2... Anything can happen...

the worst we saw was a guy who took Warrick Dunn with the 4th overall pick in the 1st round. not as bad as some of these, but pretty friggin bad.

last year someone drafted Frisman Jackson. then FJ had ONE good game, and he didnt even start him...started him like the next 10 weeks though, saying that Fj was "Due" to blow up again. :dunno:

btw- just a note. did you notice how everyone on here says "We had this guy who..."...its never "I", its "This guy who"...someone out there is that guy! SHOCKING that no one is "That guy". i know I'm not! it really was "Some guy who..." in our league. :P

In a Qb heavy league I took McNabb 1st and Owens 2nd.... :dunno:

P.S. - thank god for Larry Johnson in the 8th he helped me hang on to 2nd in the overall so I at least made a few bucks :P

Several years ago, we had an owner drafting in the 11th spot in a 12 team redraft. In Round 1, he took a QB. Then, in Round 2, he took another QB. And they weren't even stud QBs -- I wish I could remember who they were, but I think it was, like, Bledsoe and Aikman, something like that. We start 1 QB, and they get 4 pts for TD throws. And this wasn't even his first year of playing FF.

The sad thing is, the guy ended up getting lucky later on in the draft and did okay during the reg season. He didn't win any money, but he ended up in the middle of the pack, instead of in the basement where he belonged. That's FF for you.

I was helping my buddy with his draft yesterday and some dude on auto draft picked Bettis and Marshall faulk, not to mention rod smith with his second pick! Awful.

A guy in my league picked Tom Brady with the 4th overall pick.

Switching to fantasy baseball, a couple years ago I was in this league with 2 odd drafters. One guy picked basically an entire team of dudes who were great in the 80's. His first pick was Greg Maddux and his second was Benito Santiago and so on. It was horrible! And then this other dude picked 2 catchers in rounds 1 and 2 (Posada was his 1st round draft pick), then two 1B's in rounds 3 and 4, and so on. I'm guessing he didn't know what he was doing, but it was pathetic to watch. I was like  the whole draft....

I think it was three years ago, a guy picking at 1.12 and 2.13 took Kurt Warner and Rich Gannon back to back! (I guess he had the QB spot covered!)

Also, the league joke is about a guy who picked Warren Moon the year after he retired (wasn't in the league then, but we still hear about it).

I've got a good one from last year. In a 10 team 3 keeper league the guy with the #1 pick took Ricky Williams. He left Poris and D Davis on the board as well as all the rookie running backs. :ninja:

I drafted Barlow at 2.5 in 2004

A buddy of mine in our friendly league drafted Hass in the 2nd, Stevens 3rd, Burleson 4th, and SEA D in the 5th this last weekend. He then posted on the league message board that he forgot about the draft and had just pre-ranked all the Seattle players first so he could keep track of them.

I ofcourse drafted DJax a pick before him in the 4th and being the good friend I am offered him DJax and McGahee for Larry Johnson and Mush. At this point he might as well just get as many SEA starters as possible and roll with it.

Fittingly his team name is Seattle Fan. He's gonna have fun on the SEA bye week (as if he'll be anywhere near a contender anyways).

A buddy of mine last year looks up from his magazine during a work league draft and proudly annouced the newest addition to his team, Eddie George. A few minutes later he groaned in agony when he realized the article he was reading was about all time great fantasy football players and not current year players.

Had someone take Shockey 1st overall in one of my crap free leagues with friends. And the worst part is that he seriously defends the pick now.

I had my 12 team draft last night.

Some of the surprises.... Priest Holmes, Curtis Martin, and Koren Robinson were all drafted.

We had C-Mart and Koren Robinson drafted. Not Priest though.

All this talk about who the best picks would be, how about worst in drafts past. I'm in a 12 team league (more like 9 people who know what they're doing and 3 people who "think" they know what they're doing) Three years ago with the first pick in the draft a guy in our league took (drum roll please) : the tampa bay defense. It's been an ongoing joke ever since, just thought I'd share the laugh. Any crazy picks???

OK, well, 2003 (the black out year) First round pick Emmitt Smith (his first Arizona year) at No 6, on the way back, Tiki Barber. Pretty bad.

2006 - 4th round pick: Neil Rackers!

In a ten team league that is fairly competitive, we have one guy who gets lit up at the draft each year. His stellar pick last year was Michael Vick at 1.8. Yes 1.8!

My worst pick ever was Mark Brunell in the first round back in the mid 90's.... I did come back with Garrison Hearst at my next pick, but the Brunell selection killed the rest of my draft for me. I saw Brunell as the next coming of Steve Young.

he looked like the next coming of Young after that run they had when they beat denver in the playoffs that year... can't fault yourself too much

Quite a few years ago we had a guy take Natrone Means number 1 overall. Remember when he blew up in the playoffs while he was on the Jags. It was the very next year he took him #1 overall in a redraft league. Now why that was a very crazy pick at the time, and is still the joke of the league. This next guy takes the cake.

We're now a keeper league. This year we had a guy give up the number 1 overall pick n the draft to keep Reggie Wayne. Keep in mind there are alot of Stud Backs like Tiki and Edge available, which he has Zero stud backs as keepers. Plus all the stud WRs like Fitz, Harrison, Johnson are all available. He then gave up his 2nd round pick (Non-snake draft) to keep Mushin Muhammed. For his 4th round pick he takes Alge Crumpler. The kicker is that we don't have a seperate TE slot. All TEs play as a WR.

Worst Draft I've ever seen... but the guy seriously thinks that Both Wayne and Mush will be top 3 WRs. And he thinks that Alge will put up Gates type numbers.

In my first ever Fantasy draft I picked Bledsoe with the second overall pick and then smugly picked up Elway in the second round.

Yeah, I was "that guy".

San Diego took Ryan Leaf #2 overall a few years back. It's hard to top that fantasy or not.

I have a question. How is it even possible to draft players who are retired or dead? I thought in most leagues you could only select players on active rosters/ What, do they have right-in candidates or something?

Our league started in '95 and a newbie joined a couple years into it and drafted Eric Biehenemy in like the 6th round. All of us were laughing and then clammoring to find in our magazines if he was still 3rd string for the Bengals.

The year Yancey thigpen retired. My buddy took him with the #3 pick in the 1st round. 3rd overall for a retired WR who at no point in his career was worth a 1st round pick.
