poker help

Recommended Posts

So I've been playing in this email tournament for fun. Everything is done through email.

I've been breaking even pretty much the whole tournament, but now the blinds are getting up there and some guys have started amassing large stacks. Should I panic now and start going all-in every hand? Should I stay the course and just play position and the cards?

The blinds are 300 and 700 with a 100 ante. I have 10k. The big stack at my table has 40k. About 500 people left in the tournament.

Don't wait til it's too late to start going all in.... which is what I used to do. I played too conservatively in most games, got short stacked and before I knew it I was out.

I've learned that you've gotta take more risks in tournament play than you normally would in regular poker.

I think you'd have to be pretty damn patient to play poker over e-mail :ninja:

Criticize everyones play and laugh at all of their calls. People love and respect that.

Email poker?

Here is the website. A friend of mine told me about it, and I use it to take a break from work. It sucks pretty much, but I still want to win.

Be patient. Wait for paint and pairs. You're in no position to panic. If you get a high pair preflop, make sure you raise enough to make it worth it and to chase the chasers out.

How much of a raise is worth it? $3500

I'm sitting on 10-10 in the big blind.

blinds 300-700. Bestow your knowledge on me.

3X the BB is a standard convention, but with 10s or JJ you might want to go a bit higher to push people out...

...just my .02...

Edit: That said, it really depends on the type of players you're playing against...

If there's a lot of guys still in, I'd go all in (to chase some of them fockers out). If just one or two, $3500 is a good bet.

Alright, when this hands over in a week I'll let you guys know how it turned out unless I get distracted by something shiney and forget.

I think that, unless you have a guy in front of you showing incredible strength (shoving with 10k+ for instance), this is a no-brainer all-in. It's possible a hand like 8s or 9s will call you here as opposed to on the flop. If you're against a bigger pair, you're going broke no matter how much you raise. Against overcards, you don't want to let them see a flop because if you're ahead, you won't get action and if they outflop you, you go home. So I wouldn't fool with the 3k raise, get a caller and the flop comes AQ6.
