akaoni 0 Posted February 22, 2007 Our cat is named Shovel because of his broken jaw (broken prior to our adopting him from the animal shelter) and his rather curious manner of eating. Variations on his name include: Shovester Shovey Shove Snaggletooth Snaggletooth Tiger Snags etc.

Rusty Syringes 478 Posted February 22, 2007 We just got a puppy. Somebody abandoned him and a sibling in a box out in the country. A woman with whom my wife works found them and brought them up to the preschool, where everybody fell in love with them. They were given away quickly, but then one of them showed up in the classifieds, so the rescue woman took him back. My wife has hated dogs, but she called and said the dog was back at the preschool and was really cute and stuff, so I brought him home. I wanted to name him Shiner, but Rusty II insisted on naming him Jack, after his jack in the box, from which springs a puppy that kind of looks like Jack. We call him Jackalope and Flap Jack. He's a cute little bugger, although we're having a hard time potty training him. Here he is: Being cute: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5507/27...015smallxs6.jpg Thinking he's a badass: http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6100/21...002smallgt2.jpg Right now, we're trying to keep him from getting eaten. A barred owl has been stalking him for weeks, sitting in a tree just beyond the back yard and waiting for his chance to swoop down and grab the puppy. Apparently, a number of little dogs and cats in our neighborhood have met their fate that way. And then a few mornings ago, my wife, while walking Jack, encounted a focking BOBCAT in the front yard. Hopefully, Jack will survive and get big enough to be to large for the taking.

Interesting info about the barred owl and bobcat. Baxter was a stray that my bro found down south. Apparently, Bluetick Coonhounds are pretty much a southern dog. Bred for racoon hunts and such. Anyway, Baxter must have been a stray for awhile. He's got a curious disposition on him. Sort of a rueful look. Kind of sad and well, rueful. Well, he also has a fear of anything from above. He gets scared of chandeliers and stuff. Always looking up and checking, seemingly for danger. I wonder if he was attacked by barred owls or hawks or something when he was on his own down south. Not sure, but it seems as likely an explanation as any.

Not sure, but it seems as likely an explanation as any. Those barred owls are huge, badass motherfockers who aren't scared of shat. There was one sitting on a limb like 5 yards away a few months ago, and my whole family stood out on the deck to look at it and take pictures and stuff. It just stood there going My wife saw it swoop down a few days later and grab a huge snake out of our back yard. I'm glad to have the owl, because he might keep one of our kids from getting bitten by a venomous snake some day. I also like it in the morning when he and his buddies around the neighborhood start hooting at each other. But for now, he's a puppy threat. why are puppies so damn cute? To keep their owners from strangling them to death after they sh!t on the carpet or chew a coffee table in half.

My parents were friends with this couple who had a pug, Sinbad. That dog on the weekends would sit all day and watch golf on television. For some reason, he always barked at Jack Nicklaus. They'd flip back and forth between a bunch of golfers, but he always barked at Nicklaus some reason, no matter what tournament and no matter what he was wearing. Juniper 0 Posted February 23, 2007 My girlfriend's cat Spunky is 20 years old; but still hunts outdoors and leaves dead animals on the doorstep at night. She's lost a step and her hips and knees aren't quite as flexible as they used to be; but she's gotten smarter and I admire her stalking prowess. Her name evolved to Moopy when just a kitten and she won't answer to her real name; decent hearing still. And yes, I'm talking about the cat and not my girlfriend...
