nobody 2,882 Posted March 15, 2007 I hate VaTech's team. They are bunch of athletes that play streetball. They could lose to any well coached team in the field. They can't shoot free throws or threes. They can't run a half court set. This is an interesting matchup. The Big Ten has that slow it down grind it out style and the ACC has that run and gun style. I could see Oregon and Georgia Tech both being feast or famine, and I'm also not sure what to expect from ND or Wisky. Right now, I have ND and Wisky making the Sweet 16 and GT going down in the first round. However, I would not bat an eye if GT or Oregon made the Elite Eight--even Final Four. GT has the talent, they just don't have the tendency to get things done away from home (thus, the first round exit in my bracket). Oregon (not playing on day 1, but they're in that mix of teams) sets up a lot like UF last year. Good start of the season, crappy middle, win conference tourney, #3 seed. The experts are labeling the East the toughest, and I understand their stance: three teams (UNC, Tx, G'town) that could go all the way. But the Midwest has the greatest chance of a sleeper team advancing to the round of 8, imo. Butler, ND, GT, Wisc, even UNLV look like they have some potential there. Has that changed? He was only to miss 4-6 weeks, and this week puts him in that 4 week area. He was practicing with the team again. JetsFan28 0 Posted March 15, 2007 I've got UNLV going to the Elite 8. I think a lot of people just aren't familiar enough with them, including myself for that matter. Being on the east coast, I don't get to see them play often, but from what I've seen, they can do some damage. G Tech, Wisconsin, and Oregon isn't a terrible road to the Elite 8. Without Butch it will hurt them a bit...I have them squeaking by UNLV but getting beat by Oregon. Im not sure why the Butch injury has hurt their offense as much as it has...he averaged 8.8 a game. and really, even since he was hurt they have beat Michigan State twice and only been beat by the #1 team in the nation. Many around the program thought his season was over after seeing him in agony as trainer Henry Perez-Guerra popped his elbow back in place on the sidelines during the Badgers' 49-48 loss to the Buckeyes on Feb. 25. But Butch pushed ahead and was cleared to play by medical staff this morning. "The medical staff isn't going to put me out there where I could hurt myself or do anything to worsen it," Butch said Thursday. Just having Butch back in practice seems to have had an uplifting effect on the rest of the team. "Just the improved psyche of the team that everybody is there now is the biggest thing," said UW assistant coach Greg Gard. "He's also 6-11, he has a lot of experience, he's pretty savvy on the court and can make things happen that don't show up on a stat sheet in terms of passing, movement and decisions. You don't realize until you take him away just how much of a difference he made." Butch, who has missed four games since sustaining the injury, isn't all the way back. Although he took part in some drills during practice at the Kohl Center on Wednesday and at Loyola of Chicago's campus early Thursday, Butch showed during the team shoot-around at the United Center later in the day that his range has been affected by the injury and the bulky brace he wears around his right elbow. Butch did not attempt a 3-point shot and limited his range to about 15 feet. "I've got a pretty big brace that I'm wearing. It's one of those things where you have to get used to it," said Butch. "I think as a shooter you shoot no matter what. You make it work." What Butch doesn't have to worry about is if the healing elbow can take a lick. "I had it banged before I went in and practiced. It's good to have that for the mental aspect of things; knowing you can hit it a little bit," he said. "That's the game of basketball. That's one of those steps you know you have to take. You know when you go in there they'll try to hit it." It was difficult for Butch to watch the Badgers play while he rehabbed his elbow. The silver lining is that Wisconsin went 3-1 in that time. "It's tough to sit out. But you know you have to be there for your team," said Butch, who was lauded by UW coach Bo Ryan for his role as a cheerleader during those games. "You're a teammate no matter what. Injured or not. Able or not," he added. Butch was as surprised as anybody when Perez-Guerra told him he could practice Wednesday. "I was really happy. Hopefully TAMU-CC can cling to the lead (getting close to safe though..Wisconsin's offense wont be making up 20 pt leads on anyone) so my loss of GT into 16 will be partially negated. TAMU-CC is playing pretty sloppy on offense the last 10 minutes or so, so I wouldn't be shocked if the Badgers came back. But yeah, Wisconsin has fallen far enough behind that it may simply be too many points if they don't make their run soon! Badgers turn it over out of the timeout!
