We'd be speaking anything but English if your boy RuPaul was Pres. at anytime from 1914 thru 1985. Flashover 0 Posted September 6, 2007 You're part of the reason this country is in such a sh!thole right now. Buying into this NeoCon Bullsh!t. Like the people who support Thompson because he drives a red pick-up truck so he must be a red blooded American just like the rest of us. Not knowing that Thompson was actually driven by a limo and let out 2 blocks away from his destination so he could get into his red pick-up truck and drive in and give the illusion that he is one of us. The repubs are so full of sh1t yet it is sad the number of people who buy into their crap.

Voltaire 5,288 Posted September 6, 2007 Leno "Were you for the Iraq war?"FT - "yes" Leno "How much longer should we stay there?" FT - "Until the job is done." sounds familiar. It's a plus that he doesn't have any of the stench of Bush retardation on him and I'll wait to learn more - but these two answers indicate it may be almost impossible for me to vote for him. Still like Ron Paul best of all. I guess I should keep an open mind about Thompson until I hear more but I doubt I'll like him better than McCain or Guiliani. Under normal circumstances I would vote for either of those two over the Dem nominee but the war makes it really hard to do so. Prolly vote Dem- again. I absolutly don't want that slimy chameleon Mitt Romney or any of the religion freak Republicans. Thompson, we'll see what he brings, but he's already well behind the 8 Ball and I don't expect to vote for him.
wiffleball 4,789 Posted September 6, 2007 Love how all the GOP Candidates were about him not being at the craptastic New Hampshire debate with them last night. While they were blathering with each other in 1-minute soundbites to a combined live and television audience of well over 40 people, Fred was getting nationwide coverage and a virtually unlimited, unchallenged platform to chat with 40 Million people. Good Job Fred.

wiffleball 4,789 Posted September 6, 2007 I don't like Fred's stance on abortion or the war - or probably a few other things, but he's going to win the nod. I've said this repeatedly - It's all about image, not substance. Bush passed himself off as some kind of Texas good old boy when he reeks of East Coast Ivy League Old Money - and half-wits bought it. Fred's got the image, he's got the delivery - that - and 100 million dollars is about all you need to become President. If he can deliver his lines without sounding like he's personally waging a war on grammar, he's 10 times better than Bush. Unlike the British PM, The American President basically just reads what other people write for him and occasionally pops out (in Bush's case, more rarely than any other President in modern history) to answer a Q&A (after having been heavily briefed and coached by writers and advisors). Who better than an actor to do that? See ya in DC, Fred.

Flashover 0 Posted September 7, 2007 As opposed to this: No, I'm talking about Republicans being full of sh!t, you are trying to make fun of Edwards because of his hair. There is a difference. Pretending to be stronger on illegal immigration when you know that doing anything to stop it would hurt your corporate buddies, pretending to be tough on terror yet not doing anything to protect our country (sending troops into combat without the proper armor, securing the ports, implementing 9/11 commission suggestions etc.), pretending to support the troops while cutting health and medical care for troops/veterans, driving up to your press conference in your limo and getting let off two blocks away so you can drive in your red pick-up so people will think you're one of them, or buying a ranch and pretending to clear brush so people will think you're one of them...that's being full of crap, not a video of Edwards combing his hair before a televised event. BLS 314 Posted September 7, 2007 Logic can't even convince you F'ing morons that Thompson is not the answer. And no, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be speaking Arabic if Ron Paul was the President. But I would be enjoying my extra 30% take home pay from no federal income tax. But hey, there's wars to be waged, and only more to come since we'll manage to pi$$ off the rest of the world in the process. Enjoy the demise of America you half brain. Angry White Male 0 Posted September 8, 2007 I'm wavering on Giuliani. I LOVE his terrorism experience and his foreign policy (bomb Iran w00t!!!). But he seems to be a beaner lover: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070907/ap_on_...ani_immigration I need to watch some more TV and see more posts on Fred Thompson to figure out if he's the better candidate. Maybe a Thompson/Giuliani ticket would still get us to Iran, but me more sensible about immigrants. We just can't have a President that thinks illegal immigration is not a crime. wiffleball 4,789 Posted September 8, 2007 Before he was elected to the Senate, Thompson spent nearly two decades in Washington as a lawyer-lobbyist, representing such entities as Westinghouse, the deposed government of Haiti, the Teamsters Union pension fund and the Tennessee Savings and Loan Association, according to Senate records and published accounts. After he left the Senate in 2003, Thompson resumed his acting career with a role as the district attorney on TV's Law & Order. Less visibly, he registered in 2004 as a lobbyist for Equitas, a company created to manage the asbestos liability for Lloyd's of London. Equitas hired a bevy of lobbyists to protect its interests in the proposal to set up a federal trust fund, paid for by insurers, asbestos-makers and others, to compensate asbestos victims. The bill failed to pass, but before that happened, Equitas got what it wanted: a change in a provision the company said singled out foreign insurers for unfavorable treatment. Jon Nash, a firm spokesman, on Wednesday credited Thompson as having "contributed to the successful outcome." The company paid Thompson $760,000 from 2004 to 2006, according to Senate records On occasion, Thompson lobbied for causes he would later criticize as a senator. For example, Thompson led a Senate effort against "corporate welfare." As a lobbyist in 1980s, he represented Westinghouse in its failed bid to win billions in subsidies for a nuclear reactor project in Tennessee, which the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, called "a multibillion-dollar folly." Huh, for $760,000, you'd think he could afford to upgrade that old red pickup truck.
