The following songs should NOT be played in a bar

Recommended Posts

There's a few local bars that tune into a certain satelite radio station for old geezers (like me) until around 7 p.m. Invariably, I'll hear the following songs.

1. Moody Blues: Nights in White Satin

- Really? Could there BE a more depressing song? Geebus, surprised everybody doesn't off themselves. And hey, nothing like a nice 17 minute soliloqy to perk you up after a hard day at work.

2. Pink Floyd: Dark side of the moon. Actually, Pretty much ANY Pink Floyd with the exception of "the Wall" and "Dogs of War".

- Look, if you want to go home, flip on the 78's and spark up, by all means, but this song will suck the life outta a bar faster than a legion of vampires.

- There may be more...

Closing Time- Semisonic (people think it's time to leave)

Wildfire- Michael Martin Murphy . (Who can drink when they hear singing about a horse dying?)

I Will survive- Gloria Gaynor (Inevitably, every woman in the place points at her man and sings this, as if to imply she doesn't need him)

I have to disagree. "Take a Chance on Me" works in any situation.

Stairway to Heaven

Freebird

Played out. Only the most drunkest and reddest of the rednecks will immediatly start the air guitar.

How far back you wanna go? How about anything by Bread, Chicago, and Kenny Loggins.

I have claimed this for years as well...nothing like a group of women dancing together to this abomination...nodding heads in agreement to the lyrics and acting all empowered....what a joke.

edjr...Mr DJ...do you concur?

I also hate "It's Raining Men"

Nothing sucks more than being a tad-drunk and being on the dance floor, having a good time when It's Raining Men comes on. You either have to have a miserable face on and dance unenthusiastically or get off the floor. If you continue dancing with the enthusiasm that you did during Tainted Love or Usher's 'Yeah', you look like you want to be hit in the face with some precipitating manload.

Sweet Home Alabama & Takin' Care of Business!

Don't get me wrong, both are classics but severely overplayed, I got sick and tired of these tunes in the '70's and they still get played almost everywhere I go
