I traded Henry in one of my dynasty leagues for a 2.02 pick in the rookie draft this season. The guy had Young and I kept hammering him that Henry would be the starter. :overhead:

Wow, doesn't get much shorter and to the point does it?

DENVER — The Denver Broncos have released running back Travis Henry.

Coach Mike Shanahan announced the move today, saying, "We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team."

The funny thing is, some team will sign him, and there will be a hundred members saying how great he is and he just needs the right situation.

People never learn.

I'm thinking Selvin Young in my dynastly league just went WAY up in value, particularly with his 2,000 yrd season projection :dunno:

Man now I have a dilemma. In my keeper leauge we can only keep 3 and must give up a draft pick two rounds higher than the players original draft status.

My original plan was to keep Romo (give up my 4th), Santonio Holmes (give up my 6th), and Michael Turner (give up my 9th). However, I drafted Selvin in the 16th so keeping him only requires giving up a 14th. Depending on training camp, that might be too good to pass up. But then again, I'll to deal with a lot of Shannagans all season.

I'm with you FH, he costs me nothing but a roster spot in my Dynasty league, but I've vowed to stay way from Denver RB forever. I'd love to trade him for like the #4 or #5 rookie draft pick and get a shot at Smith (DET) or Forte (CHI) but I'm also apprehensive to be giving the next Terrell Davis candidate. And the guy actually put up pretty good #'s in limited action and clearly was more explosive than Henry. He's rumored to have put on about 10 lbs of muscle during the offseason to bulk up to be primary carrier.

I'm sure it's cheesy, but i'll never have douche bags like Travis Henry on my fantasy team.

I don't like rooting for people who have their heart questioned

looks like ryan torain has value now: usually, the incumbent plays like 4-5 games, and then new kid on the block explodes ie mike anderson versus incumbent olandis gary; clinton portis versus incumbent mike anderson.

Somebody must have left out the original quote from Shanny.....

Big expectations in Denver for Travis Henry ended Monday when the Broncos released the running back one season into his five-year free-agent deal.

Henry

"Although Travis has the ability to be one of the top running backs in the NFL, we have to make decisions that are in the best interests of our organization and its goal of winning a Super Bowl," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said in a statement. "We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team."

Henry ran well in Tennessee two years ago. No telling what happened behind the scenes in Denver after the incredible start he had. Non the less he's gone now. To me, it sounds like Shanahan believes Henry has the "ability to be one of the top running backs in the NFL", but just not in Denver. I'm sure Henry will be on a new team in the next few weeks and I for one am excited to see where he will go.

and for all you out there riding S.Y jock, you must be crazy. The guy went undrafted for a reason, now he's throwing out a 2k yard season, the rat will bench him after two fumbles in a row for the whole season, then trade him - - RED ALERT, RED ALERT don't be fooled - - this has B.S written all over it.

Didn't we keep hearing from certain media folks in the off season that Selvin Young does not have the stuff to be an every down back? Who makes up this crapola?

I understand that Ryan Torain is probably a Shanny choice and I agree he's a talented back when healthy, but the whole Young "isn't suited" stuff sounds similar to what was said about Westbrook, Holmes, and any other 195-lb to 205 lb back that tears it up.

It was at Shanahan's end of the season press conference where he said that Young was too small and injury prone to carry more than 10-15 times per game. Siteing that he got nicked up during the season when he was asked to carry 15-25 times per game.

Fast Forward to a few days ago....

Selvin Young has packed on 10lbs of muscle, bringing his playing weight up to 212lbs, the same weight as Terrell Davis and Clinton Portis who were for all accounts and purposes the last two "full time" running backs the Broncos had. Shanahan says he hopes that Young could be the full time back, but you never know until you start getting contact and see how your body holds up. Shanahan is making no guarantees that Young won't split carries. As of right now, he's #1 on the depth chart and for all their mini-camps, he's been with the 1st team, but until he proves that his body can handle the full load, and that he can be as effective with carries 15-20 as he is with carries 1-15, there will be no guarantee that he'll be a full time back.

I guess what bugs me still is the media continues to buy into what's said. C'mon, did anyone not think that a first-year NFL player isn't likely to add 10 lbs and retain his athleticism in year two? It's not a lot of weight for a 23-year-old man to gain-lose.

When you think about it, what is Shanny supposed to say while he's defending Travis Henry in the same breath? The whole response of "I'm defending Travis and talking about lie detectors and getting in hot water with Goddell, but by the way I have a runner that just needs to put on 10 lbs and has potential to be an every down starter," doesn't really help his case to be so fervent about Travis the Rolling Stone. Of course Travis must be a charmer, 9 kids with 9 mothers. Good thing Shanny isn't a woman, he might be pregnant by now. Especially supporting the guy with that whole lie detector bit.

Of course, we know Denver will be an RBBC cluster#### unless one really separates himself from the pack.

The Broncos' decision to release Travis Henry this morning has been coming for months. Broncos' insiders said the team had been unhappy with Henry virtually all spring. In a rare statement about a released player, Denver coach Mike Shanahan made a point to say Henry had a lack of "commitment" to the team.

The final straw came in the past week when Henry stopped attending the team's OTA sessions. Yes, Henry was hurt with a hamstring injury he suffered 17 days ago, but injured players are required to show up for work. Henry didn't. Perhaps he was upset that he knew he had to fight for playing time with Selvin Young, Ryan Torain and Michael Pittman. Whatever the reason, the team tired of Henry's lack of dedication.

The Henry experience in Denver was one giant disaster. After signing a five-year deal with more than $12 million in bonuses, Henry's days in Denver began to get rocky last August when it was disclosed in a Georgia court that he had fathered nine children with nine different mothers in a six-year span.

In early October, the Broncos received a major distraction when it was disclosed that Henry had tested positive for marijuana use and was subject to a one-year NFL suspension. Henry was leading the NFL in rushing after four games at the time of the bombshell. After two long months of distractions, Henry won an appeal of the suspension. Still, he was never the same running back after the story broke. He didn't have a 100-yard game the rest of the season and was plagued by nagging injuries.

The Broncos decided to keep Henry this offseason but reduced his salary to $1 million. Denver's decision to sign Pittman last week was a sign the team was moving toward this move.

Monday, it did. It will be a surprise if Henry ever plays in the NFL again.

With Henry one strike away from a year's suspension and with all the bad publicity, teams will not want to sign this player who at 29 is showing signs of wear and tear. Shaun Alexander, who has no off-field issues hovering over his head, can't get a job, so Henry will be especially challenged finding work. The only chance Henry gets a job is if a desperate team wants him and he agrees to a minimum salary.

This is truly a shame. Henry came to Denver with a lot of promise. He fit the Broncos' zone-blocking system and the team was fully committed to him, but he made one mistake after another.

Good article on ESPN's Hashmark's blog.

I think if they were going to sign Alexander, they had done so instead of signing Pittman.

They would have already if they wanted him.. Shanny wants to make one of his youngins a star. Young averaged over 5 yards a carry - I think he is given a solid chance to be the guy -- He fails then Torain has a shot.

There is really only 2 guys who will be " the man " right now in that back field. Young or Torain. Hall isn't that good IMO and Pittman is really a full back.

You know better than that Moz. You can't predict anything in the Denver backfield and the people in here already trying to get any sort of handle on it this early are wasting their time, IMO.

Since Mike Bell is the only back I haven't noticed mentioned in this thread yet, seems to only make sense that he'll be the most valuable Denver RB by the end of the year...

What happened to him last year? He vanished when the job was there for the taking? He was great the year before, then nothing.

This sucks. I have SY in a keeper league and with Henry back I had the perfect excuse to dump him and get off the Shanahan RB roller coaster. But now I have to decided if he is worth keeping as a 2nd or flex back. I don't think you could count on SY as a primary back just because of the fact that Shanahan could very well decide to start the hot dog boy in week four and the guy who fixes the phone lines in week six. In between SY will have a career game rushing for 150 yds and score three touch downs, not that it will help you because you will have benched him. Repeat after me, I will not drink the cool aid.
