edjr 6,603 Posted July 11, 2008 Yikes, the important draft is your initial draft in a dynasty (30 rounds?) If you then proceed to reverse the order for your 3,4,5 round rookie/fa draft the following year? That's even less fair for the crap teams - they need the high pick to have any chance of sustaining. Like I said before, just some advice to think about - the worst thing in a dynasty is high ownership turnover year after year... No, just reverse the order year 2. Years 3 and on, the draft goes by where you finish. Worst gets the 1st pick.
gocolts 300 Posted July 11, 2008 I was about to say same thing. Up the keepers gradually. ex. 4 keepers this year, 7 the next,10 the next... til it is roster size dynasty I can live with that or anything else mentioned in this thread. Just FYI.
edjr 6,603 Posted July 11, 2008 That might work, but since you came up with the idea, I'm sure there is a major focking problem somewhere. fair point.
mmmmm...beer 807 Posted July 11, 2008 Are you all focking crazy? I have a fock all of a time deciding/sticking to a monthly budget... why would this fantastically fun money management stuff of course not transfer to the fun of fantasy football? I'll blow all my money in my first pick cause I dunno what the hell I'm doing and I'll have to pay 3 cents for the rest of my players *sadbanana*
yostevo 0 Posted July 11, 2008 No, just reverse the order year 2. Years 3 and on, the draft goes by where you finish. Worst gets the 1st pick. I see where you are going with this but I gotta disagree. No matter where you pick in this initial draft, if you have a bad year you are going to want to be first in line next year. Bottomline. Otherwise you will be breeding some potentially bad teams with a mass exodus in year 3.
yostevo 0 Posted July 11, 2008 If it wasn't dynasty, I would agree to do a snake draft. If you guys really want to do a snake, then I would suggest instead of a true dynasty, do a keeper league say between 2-5 players. Also, a auction draft essential turns into a regular draft in the second half as people start running low on cap dollars. I think the auction thing is not going to happen so here are the options to me: 1. Make it a 5 player keeper league while drafting a standard 15 man roster and we'll gradually increase the keepers and roster size to graduate into a dynasty format. or 2. Snake draft full on dynasty with a rookie redraft next year with the worst records deciding the draft order. I think that's where we stand at this point. I have always wanted to be in a dynasty so whatever it takes is fine by me. Glad the action is off the table since I don't know how to do those. With several already saying they have never done an auction, I think it would really fock up the league early on and give a huge advantage to the few that have done an auction. The league would could end up being unbalanced and could cause some to not participate or not return to the league since the few that do know how to do an auction would probably mop us up so to speak and make some teams have a lot more talent than others. Which would make it more difficult to fill vacancies in future years. I for one plan on being in this for the long haul, to build a greta team.
kutulu 1,680 Posted July 11, 2008 I agree that an auction would be hard to pull off over the internet. At the same time, you slapnuts shouldn't be scared of an auction...it's not that hard.

hellothere 1 Posted July 11, 2008 for the record im pretty interested if its an auction dynasty, or auction keeper, or auction keeper with increasing keeper counts etc. but will have to pass if its regular snake. you wont have any problems filling it it looks like, just in case there is a ground swell for auction. usurpers26 26 Posted July 11, 2008 Actually that is the easiest way to do an auction (MFL is designed specifically for this) - I know I'm being devil's advocate here...just trying to get you guys to try something new I agree that an auction would be hard to pull off over the internet. I just don't see how it would be more fair to have an auction than a snake with some not having any experience in an action. Would that not be an advantage to those few that do over those who have never done one???

I like 1, but what if players taken in the first few rounds are not eligible to be kept the first year? I just can't give the thumbs up to a draft that lets one team get AD Peterson just cause thier name gets pulled first out of a hat.
usurpers26 26 Posted July 11, 2008 It seemed that those interested so far had never done an auction draft. Although, even if a few had, I don't think there is any tremendous advantage. It really isn't complicated. It just allows any player to be on your team if you are willing to spend the cash. And it is fun to see how every owner has their own strategy. You have the ones that spend the big bucks for top shelf players, the owners who sit back and fill their team with "sleepers", owners who overpay for rookies (McFadden went for $45 in our league - $250 team cap), etc. I would gladly post our initial drafts auction results if anyone was interested. I would also say don't do a keeper league. Even if that means doing a snake for the dynasty. Dynasty leagues are *the* most entertaining leagues. I actually dropped out of my redraft league this year...just can't get into re-rolling your team each year anymore. Bottome line is you will have fun regardless of the initial draft process - you just want to set it up in a fashion that keeps owner turnover to a minimum. I don't think it is about trying something new. I just don't see how it would be more fair to have an auction than a snake with some not having any experience in an action. Again, I'm not really hearing the AP argument because shiza happens. There could be a new AP every year. We said the same thing back in the days of Marshall Faulk, Brett Favre,Priest Holmes yada yada. Things always change. That's what the rookie/FA drafts of the future will be for. It sounds like you want to be in a redraft league.

usurpers26 26 Posted July 11, 2008 no no no - auction via MFL is NOT live - the commish sets the timer to "X" amount of days, etc...works beautifully - we have 6 guys on the west coast and 6 guys on the east coast. anyhow, I digress - if anyone would like any other auction/dynasty info - let me know. Good luck with the league! I'm sure it works fine, but it will be hard enough for 12 guys spread out across the country or world to get in synch to do the draft. stick 2 Posted July 11, 2008 Truth be told I would rather have a mid round pick and NOT #1. Whats the big fuss. But w.e, I aint gonna argue about this stuff, I will do it regardless of the outcome, let me know when you punks stop sword fighting. ~STICK

If you don't mind and it's not to much trouble, I would love an email about how these things work and results of an auction draft just for personal reasons. My email is in my profile if you decide to send some information my way. Thanks dude.

stick 2 Posted July 11, 2008 Put me on the maybe list, no sense in trading for anything but TOP NOTCH players with the current plan. Its either Dynasty or its not IMO. True dynastys are won and lost in the later rounds, this plan focks that up IMO. This only makes the draft order more important. Ill have to rethink this one, give me a bit. ~STICK

IAMWood 6 Posted July 11, 2008 If all of you who do this league have never done an auction draft - that makes it even more entertaining (and fair). Although, you will never want to do a snake draft again Auction is better but have never done one for football, just baseball and basketball. But will do either. Dynasty league - you have a roster of 30 and you have to keep
