RUDI’S CRAZY DAY IN DETROIT

Posted by Mike Florio on September 2, 2008, 9:17 p.m. EDT

A strange thing happened to running back Rudi Johnson when he visited with the Detroit Lions on Monday.

Someone stole his stuff.

Seriously.

Specifically, and as we’re told by a reliable source (i.e., not the person who told Mort that Joey Harrington had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Monday, or the person who told John Clayton that Todd Bouman had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Tuesday), Johnson left his bags outside CEO Matt Millen’s office while he met with team officials and, ultimately, worked out a deal with the team.

So when Johnson came back to get his bags, they were nowhere to be found. Johnson and Millen were stumped.

Enter the eye in the sky.

The team checked the videotapes generated by the team’s in-house surveillance system, and they quickly identified the culprit.

So who might it have been? None other than Tatum Bell, who lost his gig with the Lions after Rudi arrived.

Per the source, Bell took the bags to the house of a female acquaintance. When confronted on the matter, Bell offered up some cockamamie story that he thought the bags belonged to someone he knew. The girl, however, said that she hadn’t seen Bell in several months and he showed up out of the blue and asked her to keep the bags for a while.

Johnson has retrieved the bags, and it’s our understanding that charges won’t be pressed.

lol this came from Rotowire...

According to ProFootballTalk.com, Tatum Bell made off with Rudi Johnson's bags Monday while Rudi was in Matt Millen's office.

Seriously. Upon finding the items missing, the Lions checked video surveillance and found Bell doing his best cookie crook impression. Bell took the bags to a female acquaintance and asked her to keep them for awhile. Johnson has since retrieved the bags and charges will not be pressed. No word yet on whether Bell fumbled the leather items as he made his way down the crowded hallway.

lolol, good burn Roto, that actually made me laugh

Tatum Bell is mad at Rudi because Rudi is now going to get carries with Smith. Bell is on the bench now and he is mad. Even a busted up Rudi is still better than Bell and Tatum know this fact. Rudi should press charges and then kick his a-s.

He's not "on the bench"...he's cut.

From the cover of Fantasy Football Index a few years ago to this...pretty pathetic thing for Bell to do.

Update from MLIVE in Detroit

Bell's role confirmed in The Great Missing Bag Caper

by Tom Kowalski

Wednesday September 03, 2008, 10:19 AM

There was an interesting item in ProFootballTalk.com last night concerning two of Detroit's running backs -- recently signed free agent Rudi Johnson and the recently released Tatum Bell. Check out the story here.

A source close to the situation confirmed that it did happen. Whether it was a prank or misunderstanding or something else, that has yet to be determined, but Johnson was "pretty miffed'' according to the source.

Lions president Matt Millen and Johnson, who had been meeting in Millen's office, searched all over the building for the bag. When they couldn't find it, Millen offered Bell several hundred dollars to tide him over until they could figure out what happened to the bag. As the PFT story indicates, they finally found out what happened and recovered the bag.

An interesting twist is that, earlier on Monday, Bell and Johnson had a good conversation about the city of Detroit, the team, practice schedules, etc. According to the source, though, that was before Bell "put two and two together'' about Johnson's presence in Detroit

I hope this moron isn't looking for a job anywhere else but Walmart because this was such a retarded move He could only qualify for a greeter !!!!

UPDATES :

Rudi Johnson - RB - Lions

Rudi Johnson called Tatum Bell a "shyster" and "conniving" after Bell stole Rudi's duffel bags in the Lions' locker room Monday.

"Underwear, socks, credit cards and money. He left my money clip with no money in it," said Johnson, who had $200 stolen. "He should've taken the clip, too. It's quite stupid if you ask me." Rudi says he won't call the police.

Sept. 3, 2008 - 3:33 p.m.

A league source speculated to Profootballtalk.com that free agent Tatum Bell's career could be over after he stole Rudi Johnson's bags and money.

Fantasy spin: "The worst transgression you can commit in the NFL," the source said, "is to steal from a teammate or another player. I don't think Bell will play another down." Saints receiver Albert Connell allegedly stole $4,000 from Deuce McAllister in 2001, was released, and never played in the NFL again.

Sept. 3, 2008 - 9:59 a.m.

Profootball.com writes that Tatum Bell reportedly stole Rudi Johnson's bags when the two crossed paths in Detroit on Monday.

Fantasy spin: Rudi apparently left his bags outside Matt Millen's office during a meeting, then they disappeared. Millen checked security tapes and saw usurped running back Bell lift the bags. They tracked Bell down elsewhere, retrieved the bags, and decided not to press charges. Bell is even worse at crime than he is at running.

As someone said earlier, Tak'em Bell. :(

Someone told me Jim Rome was painting the picture of Tatum running through an airport ala OJ's Hertz commercial, carrying a stolen suitcase.
