jon stewart vs jim cramer!

Recommended Posts

See this is what I don't get. The John Stewarts, Cramers, Santilli's all are lumped into the news/entertainment field with the "Huckabee show" or those liberal or conservative "experts" they bring on all those shows like AC360 and crap. When I watch those things I undertand what I am watching. If Santilli goes on a rant on the floor of the stock exchange I realize he is not telling me the factual news, but rather giving an opinion in an entertaining way.

When I want the factual NEWS, I should get that from Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, or those cable networks news desk people.

Am I the only one that sees that distinction?

I don't believe Emanuel, but I KNOW that Santelli is full of shiot. Can you see the difference?

They're both wrong? :dunno:

I don't know sh!t about Santelli. Was he as upset about other aspects of the bailout/stimulus packages as he was about the mortgage portion? Because I think that's a big part of Stewart's point.

Stewart on Santelli

Santelli called people who made bad decisions regarding their mortgage "losers", did he have similar venom for business leader who had made worse decisions?

Abcnews goes a pretty good summary. it's too long to post the whole thing, but if you've missed out on the chronology and some of the jokes, they do a nice job.

It all started March 4, when Rick Santelli, another CNBC personality, backed out of appearing on the fake news anchor's show. Stewart skewered the network with an eight-minute segment of some of the most bullish remarks made by CNBC's anchors and analysts.

"If I had only taken CNBC's advice, I would have a million dollars today, provided I started with $100 million," Stewart told his audience. "How do they do it?

Cramer, on the other hand, seemed to be taking the attacks more personally. "The reason why it's been so hard for me, the attacks, is that early on I patterned my show off of his, which is that you can do an entertainment business show. And then to be suddenly attacked by a guy that's your idol makes it difficult."

Agreed. Waiting for one of the cartoons to tell you that Brian Wiliams works for NBC - which is horribly libruhl. And that Charlie Gibson was horribly unfair to Sarah Palin, so he's probably just as bad...

Again he seems to be talking about mortgages there. Has had the same kind of vitriol for the businesses that have been bailed out?

I think that's the problem - at least from the bit I've seen / read. I think (don't quote me, not sure) that Stewart wanted to call out Santelli being pissed about homeowner's getting a bit of a break - but he has NO problem with Billionaires getting breaks. Again, my understanding, not gospel.

ETA: That's where you have to give Cramer props. Santelli ran and hid like a little Biitch. Cramer took a lot of shrapnel for Santelli - and then went on TDS like a man. - Can't say that for Santelli.

That was the impression I got too. Like I said I don't knew sh!t about Santelli so I wasn't sure if it was accurate. Not that I care to know much more about him from what I've seen. He seems like such a focking blowhard it makes you appreciate a guy like Cramer.

Stewart hit the nail on the head (for a comedian.) Back room trading with people's 401k is happening, people know about it, and the NBC networks aren't doing their jobs (as a news network) and reporting on it or asking the questions that need to be asked.

Cramer admitted it and said he will do a better job, I'd love to see Mad Money today and see what he says about it.

What specifically do you disagree with Santelli in this instance? Because it seems like you and Wiffle are trying awful hard to call the guy a hypocrite without any facts to back it up.

Also, he may even be a hypocrite...I don't know...don't even really care. I just agree with him here.

what if Kramer were to spend his show picking out mistakes stewart made the past few years and stewart can

make some stock picks. I'd say kramer would have a much easier go of it.

Stewart doesn't hold himself out to be a financial expert. What mistakes can Stewart make? He doesn't throw down anything as fact - it's all satire? A 'mistake' for him is a joke that bombs. That's why MSNBC/Matthews couldn't find a single clip to post in rebuttal.

That's the difference between Stewart and the guys he lampoons - Those guys all act like they're experts. Jon readily admits his show is "sitting in the back of the room throwing spit balls."

I have a question as I have not seen the Daily Show in a while.

Has John Stewart started to be a real journalist now? Has he quit with the comedy and personal slanted take on events? Does he perform his due dilligence and reprot the news as opposed to opinions and editorials now?

When did all this happen as I missed it?

This.

You should probably watch the show before you make any comments. I mean, it's incredibly lame of you to sit there and let Chris Matthews give you your opinion - then repeat it verbatim like it's your own thought. I'd expect that from Colts. It's like that guy on this bored that didn't even understand how his own taxes were calculated, but knew for sure that the tax plan was absolutely killing people.

I have seen the show, just not in a while. Hence the questions.

Are we not allowed to ask questions anymore?

Apparently, Stewart has the best of both worlds. He can take shots at anyone who puts themselves out there but he can never be called out since no one is supposed to take him seriously.

Not stupid ones no. Because if you'd say, watch a 5 minute clip of the show, you'd have your answer. Not that focking hard. Like i said long ago:

"Here's a thought: Do your own research. Educate yourself. Then form an opinion you can support."

Sure, it's harder, than letting some dooshbag do your thinking for you, but the payoff is, you don't come across as an ill-informed mouthbreather incapable of forming your own cogent thoughts.

The show has not changed. Just because he is not a journalist (and does not portray himself as such) does not mean that he can say whatever he wants and it does require preparation. It appears from what he has done to the folks at CNBC recently that he does his homework at Comedy Central better than the folks at CNBC do.

Dude, you are a weird cat. What are you talking about with the Chris Matthews, letting somebody think for you non-sense. I don't give a flying fock what some internet media personality says about a topic. I read this thread and contributed thoughts and asked questions.

You always pull this and I'm not sure why. You speak of being a mouthbreather, yet then tell someone they need to educate themselves by listening to a media persons opinion. You are talking in circles.

See, patsfatboy is sane. Therefore he posted a sane response. You need to get back on the Paxil or something.

while also going on other shows, laying down his political opinion, then hiding behind another lame joke. I'm watching a

What if Cramer had actually thought enough to make such an offer last night? He could have laid a challenge down to Stewart (with money going to charity), but he didn't.

It sure seems like he did not come with any sort of game plan or preparation.

Yup. Didn't he go on cross fire or something, some years back, and call one of the guys a dik? Every time they called him out, he'd say he was a comedian.

I don't really disagree with him much on this issue, but if he held his tongue while hundreds of billions were thrown at the companies he makes his living pimping and only gets upset when a fraction of that amount is thrown toward mortgages, I would consider that pretty relevant as to his credibility.

Hence the term "satire". Basically, "putting yourself out there" isn't the problem. Plenty of people do that everyday. But satirists tend to go after people who are either hypocrites, or hold themselves out to be more than they are - then fail miserably. Stewart didn't exactly invent the medium. People have been lampooning these types since time immemorial. He also calls the Stimulus Plan ClusterF*ck to the poor House. :D Here, he goes after Obama's partying at the WH.

What's funny is nobody was whining when TDS was going after Clintongate 24/7. (oh wait - yes they were) Now, the whining comes from the other side. That's what people don't get - the show lampoons whatever whenever. But when 'your' guy gets lampooned, all of a sudden it's

Has Jon Stewart found something funny to satirize about the president yet? I mean, the president is pretty close to perfection, so it makes Stewart's job very hard to lampoon him. Just wondering?

Dude, I watched the clip you posted. You wrote Matthews statement damn near VERBATIM. We can all watch that clip and read what you wrote. Petraeus, Bush? - Right from the guys' mouth! You admit that you haven't watched TDS, you watch the first 2 minutes of Matthews to get an opinion, then write it down like it's your own thought. That's a GoColts trick right there if ever there was one.

You are changing the topic.

It is not about "right or wrong" tips, it is about journalism ethics. NBC doesn't do its job of reporting what is being done by corrupt CEOs, instead asking questions the CEOs want to be asked to further the delusion of their company doing well.

Stewart might just be a comedian, but he is intelligent and informed and most importantly he is NOT partisan.

And unlike say, leno or letterman, the cat's actively involved in the writing of the show. I've seen him on Charlie Rose - the guy's pretty focking sharp. Took brass to show up on Crossfire and he pretty much owned those cats - called them out for their bombastic nonsense right on their own turf.

Whenever Tucker asks him about his show, it's about "comedy". The first "call out", he asks him about sucking up to John Kerry...no comedy involved.

Here's the offending post:

I haven't seen much of the going back and forth but it's quite easy to play armchair qb on this. I like the

comments here about: why doesn't he pick warren buffet who said GE was a good buy? Or scarborough's

pointing out how many times you could bring up where stewart was wrong like mocking the surge or general

petraeues. I'm no big fan of Kramer, but at least he puts himself on the line a bit.

No he's not. He's pretty much like you. If you don't agree with him, he starts the name calling and insults.

You go around here 'claiming' you make your own decisions. All you do is wake up and read the DNC talking points every morning. You're such a tool.

LOL. And I'm so much smarter than you, it's painful.
