1 st Fantasy Football Mag of the season

Recommended Posts

I consider it like Memorial day is the unofficial start of Summer. When I see the first Fantasy Magazine I start to get into it a little. Start my return here.

Last week the first Fantasy Football Mag came out ( i know there were a few previews) . ESPN Fantasy Football 2010. I know you can get everything from the internet and here but I like to buy 1 mag to read when i out or at work etc. Just a heads up.

They have been rendered almost worthless by technology. It's like they should almost wait until the Preseason now to print them.

I buy one and only one.... Fantasy Football Index. Best one out there. They have misses each year, but last year they were pretty good. They were pimping Ray Rice and Brent Celek.

I always buy 2-3 . Leave one at work and the other I bring with me when My wife goes shopping ( I sit in the car and read) etc. And yes bathroom material and its always a good idea to bring a mag to the Draft if you cant carry a Laptop. They still have a purpose and they still sell well.

i saw espn the other day too, and i thought it was weird

Fantasy Sports is usually the first one out......i only buy Pro Football Weekly NFL Preview because it has week to week stats, and i would buy Espn later because of the articles, good craphouse reading

i wonder why espn came out so early this year?.....they will probably drop a part 2 knowing them greedy frucks

Yeah it was always Fantasy Sports with the first one every first week of June . ESPN usually by the end of June.

Fantasy Sports (Krause Publications) has been discontinued. Just an FYI

I saw this one at the store today. 9 bucks and it looks like dogshit as far as the info goes.

I usually get the Index and one other one with lot of stats like Pro Football Weekly...also good for beach reading.

I buy 1 every year, and leave it in the bathroom,3 or 4 good months worth of bathroom "stuff" builds up on it. then I take it to the draft and set it out, for someone who needs it. I always chuckle to myself when that someone licks their fingers before turning the pages :P

ESPN is usually one of the first out, and this year I think they're solid. There's a bit in there about a "12 step guide to drafting" which has some decent takes. I thought the blurbs on stacking your byes and west coast players were interesting.

Of course, Fantasy Football Index is the cadillac of fantasy mags. I think taking that extra few weeks gives them a little more insight. I love how FFI breaks down the defenses of each team as far as depth charts, tackle forecasts etc. Great for IDP leagues.

Also, on a menial note... Sports Illustrated now devotes an entire issue to Fantasy. I look for insight from scouts and such in these mags. Last year SI had a blurb about the Frisco coaches betting their media hacks that VD would make the Pro Bowl. On that I grabbed him in our auction draft for $3, and he was gold all year.

Just sayin.

Just picked this one up...it is not a "fantasy" mag...just a 2010 NFL mag...makes no difference to me though.

$9 for a freakin magazine? :D

You know what's funny, my league mates rip on me for spending $13 on "stupid website predictions", but then they show up to the draft with 3 magazines under their arm. :bandana:

I was at a book store today and saw something like Finley going in the 7th or Ryan Matthews being their 40th ranked RB. Jerome Harrison was a 3rd round pick too.

Still not quite as fun as reading the pre nfl draft magazines after the fact.

all in all fantasy mags are pretty worthless....thats why alot of us limit them to craphouse literature

there is so much free info on the web, that actually gets updated, its usually not worth the $9 for a mag.....but, die hard FFers always gotta get atleast 1 mag

i dont even bring magazines to the drafts anymore......and if i do, i put checks and highlight guys (that i dont want) so ppl who "borrow" it think im high on these guys

I don't think you saw that one. I talked to FF Index today and the magazine won't be released until Thursday at Barnes and Noble and Borders. The rest of the stores will release it on July 6.

I haven't seen it yet and I've been looking. I remember from past years that the Index does come out right around July 4th. The 6th sounds right as it is a Tuesday and I believe most new mags are put on display that day of the week. Maybe those two super bookstores got a deal that allows them to put it out a few days earlier than that?

I don't know of anyone that had Celek as their #5 TE like they did. They might have even listed him as their #4 TE. They also had Rice as their #1 can't miss pick (outside of the obvious studs). They had other really good picks as well. THey had their bad picks as well, but the past 3 years I've bought their magazine and it hasn't disappointed.

That's what they told me. They said those two stores had some sort of promotional deal and they were able to sell them earlier. Apparently there were some places that released the magazine too early because they guy also said one of their customers on the mailing list wasn't too pleased to see the magazine on the shelves and not at his house yet.

the key to drafts is to do research and come up with your own strategy and conclusion....the mags and internet just provide info it is up to YOU the consumer to render your decisions.....as for me i gather as much info as possible.....

I got the sports illustrated fantasy mag and it is the best out there it is better the the index...... i didnt buy index but friend did.....i also bought atlon as well and that one just gives some info and i didnt really like it but each mag has info that you have to sort thru and come you your own conclusion.....those that say they dont buy mags are putting themselves in position to lose.... IMO

Don't agree with saying if you don't buy a magazine you're going to lose or be at a disadvantage. So, if someone bought a fantasy magazine back in early June over someone that didn't they have an edge? I don't think so. It's a nice reference tool and a different perspective, but with so much more up to date information on the Internet, most of the information that was once useful in many of the magazines is not anymore. Like I mentioned before, FF Index has done a great job the past 2 or 3 years hitting on most of their sleepers.

To each their own I suppose...
