surferskin 31 Posted August 18, 2010 I get her point, it's stupid for one group to object to the use of a word by another group when the word is used as a term of endearment by the first group. But you're still going to get in trouble for saying it on the air. Ultimately she proved her point by losing her job.
Voice_Of_Reason 0 Posted August 18, 2010 Other than being too stupid to realise that saying the N-word on the radio will get you in hot water, nothing. I get her point, it's stupid for one group to object to the use of a word by another group when the word is used as a term of endearment by the first group. But you're still going to get in trouble for saying it on the air. Did Don Imus say anything wrong? No. Did Howard Stern say anything wrong? No. Did Dr. Laura say anything wrong? No. They all said something stupid and have/are going to pay for it. So the only problem with it is that we live in a hyper sensitive world that refuses to use logic and reason in these situations. Agreed.
Cruzer 1,996 Posted August 18, 2010 I was going to respond but you seem to be one of those guys who gets all emotional and starts tossing around personal insults when faced with opinions you don't agree with, so nevermind. I'm hardly one of those, my skin is thicker than you could possibly imagine. If anybody called anybody out, it was you. But whatever - thanks for still not answering the question. Like you said earlier, this thread is full of predictability.
MDC 8,084 Posted August 18, 2010 I'm hardly one of those, my skin is thicker than you could possibly imagine. Yep. But you're typical of people on this site - you see an opinion you don't agree with and immediately start throwing around insults and getting personal, to turn the discussion into anything but the original topic. You're not unlike Recliner Pilot and many others here in that way.

Please point to the exact point in my post where I specifically called you out or said you were 'xyz'. Again, if anybody took a shot and did such a thing, it was you. I'd personally like to stay on topic and discuss the issue. Guess I'm too busy enjoying being Cruzer like somebody said. :hypocrisy:
MDC 8,084 Posted August 18, 2010 Please tell/show me where I personally insulted you. No. You can scroll back to your first post to me with your welcher BS. That stuff is typical for FFT - see an opinion you don't like and try to derail the conversation by getting personal. I see it over and over again here, you're just the latest to follow the herd. That stuff is typical for FFT - see an opinion you don't like and try to derail the conversation by getting personal. I see it over and over again here, you're just the latest to follow the herd. Oh, I see. Bcoz I brought up the word welcher you got offended. Strange, why would you get offended - are you one? I was speaking in general terms as why being Cruzer isn't so bad. Like I said, you brought it up and started that ball rolling - not me.
Frank M 181 Posted August 18, 2010 So the only problem with it is that we live in a hyper sensitive world that refuses to use logic and reason in these situations. Agreed. Perhaps. I don't know many people, even logical, non-hypersensitized people, that want to hear that word while driving in the car listening to the radio, though. MDC 8,084 Posted August 18, 2010 Oh, I see. Bcoz I brought up the word welcher you got offended. Strange, why would you get offended - are you one? I was speaking in general terms as why being Cruzer isn't so bad. Like I said, you brought up and started that ball rolling - not me. I'm not offended. I just see the typical pattern of knee-jerk lashing out when confronted with opinions you don't like, as the typical FFT strategy of derailing the conversation. You're a lot more interested in this kind of back-and-forth than having a point or discussing anything - that's why I'm done with you. Have the last word, I won't be talking to you anymore. Edit: You can see surfurskin practically getting a boner now that the thread isn't about anything. It's like you guys share the same hive mind.

I agree, it is the typical pattern you display here. You start a thread and when legitimately challenged with a straight foreward question that you don't like or can't answer - you revert to antics and back door slaps. Go back to my original post - in it you will find a very direct, on topic question. In your response you start the ball rolling by suggesting when I heard Chris Rock say it once, my narrowmindness had me reacting in a way you didn't like/understand. But you weren't done - you continued to take a shot belittling my wolrd and saying how nice it must be to be me. So please, save the drama and just admit you are the one (as is usually the case) who took this thread off topic and then tried to blame somebody else for it. Ha, I do find it funny though that the welcher comment hit a nerve.
MDC 8,084 Posted August 18, 2010 Oh yeah, and I did answer Cruzer's question - "the lefties" don't all tolerate the N word. Most people find it offensive in any context. It was presumptuous and obnoxious to Dr. Laura to lump her caller in with all black people. Bill Cosby among many other black people have complained about blacks using that term. And let's get real here: Did Dr. Laura need to use that word to make her point? No. Did she use it because her audience gets off on hearing her say racially offensive things? She sure did. Good - this is what I looking for........... Now that you mention it, I think I do remember Cosby coming out on that. But that is one, one in a gazillion mediums. As I stated earlier, I myself do not use the word nor do I think it is proper for anybody else to do it. One of my very best friends is black. By the same token I do not think other races should have ugly names thrown about them - including whites. Dr. Laura certainly could have shown better judgment and tact - but her point was dead on. I guess it will always be that way - the double standard.
Willis McGahee's Dentist 61 Posted August 18, 2010 I wasn't aware that this would be a political topic, but the way I see it is that Dr. Laura said what every single one of us 'white folk' has thought a million times..if the word is so offensive to them, why do they use it so much? She was 100% right and her taking slack for her comments is proof that freedom of speech only exists for minorities. Still don't see how this is political. Well, to be fair, this isn't a freedom of speech issue. It's more of a culturual and political correctness issue.
surferskin 31 Posted August 18, 2010 I was just surprised there were no threads, since so many people at FFT enjoy saying racist things and complaining about black people. I figured Dr. Laura was a forearm hero. I'm surprised posts like this didn't lead to the thoughtful discussion on race relations that MDC had hoped for... MDC 8,084 Posted August 18, 2010 Dr. Laura certainly could have shown better judgment and tact - but her point was dead on. I think Dr. Laura could've made the same point without going out of her way to be offensive. I also think Dr. Laura and her ilk are race-baiters. Rush Limbaugh occassionally has a point too, but he tries to be racially offensive because that's what his audience wants to hear. Those kind of people are pretty much the flip side of the coin to someone like Al Sharpton, who sees racist intent in everything.
