BLS 313 Posted April 22, 2011 I realize it's probably a moon landing for most of you, but I had never heard of them until a few weeks ago. I bought one last week and quitting smoking has been a FREAKIN BREEZE. yes, I'm still taking in nicotine, but I'm already not having the cravings I used to have in the mornings and after meals. I really think these things ROCK. So vape away bitches! BLS is on the road to becoming the most boring geek on the bored.

Gandalfs Fireworks 2 Posted April 22, 2011 I am the self-proclaimed resident expert on these gadgets. The brand you want to check out is V2. Go to v2cigs.com. Their cartridges are superior to everything else on the market. I had not smoked in 12 yrs, but started getting cravings about 8 months ago. I fought it for 6 months, then broke down and bought a pack of Camels. I told myself I'd do one or two a day at most, but I smoked the whole pack in 5 days. So, I ordered a starter kit from V2, which was $80 and came with 10 cartridges, 2 batteries and 2 chargers. The cartridges are $10 for a 5 pack. 1 cartridge normally lasts me about 2 days. They say a cartridge is equal to a pack of regular cigs. So, you can easily see the cost savings. I enjoy it, but I still hide it from my young 'uns.
OldMaid 1,838 Posted April 23, 2011 Meh... Cartridges are a thing of the past. What you want are cartomizers or a tank system. Less hassle and more consistent.

IGotWorms 3,391 Posted April 23, 2011 I used to play a friendly game of poker with a group of guys, one of whom would use on of these things. I always thought it was weird. Just couldn't wrap my mind around it. What's the point?

Just couldn't wrap my mind around it. What's the point? The point is that an e-cig doesn't make you, your clothes, your breath, your car and your home stink. It doesn't leave soot on your walls and ceilings and furniture. It doesn't fill your lungs with tar. It doesn't stain your fingernails and teeth. It allows you to taper off your nicotine levels until you have gradually broken your addiction. Or, if you don't want to break your addiction, it allows you to keep on puffing without the known health risks of smoking a traditional cig.

So there aren't any substantial health risks associated with puffing one of these things? I could do it for the rest of my life without any significantly higher chance of getting cancer, emphysema, etc.?

I think what you're inhaling is mostly water vapor and nicotine, so my guess is the health risks if any are a hell of a lot lower than regular cigs.

This is correct; nicotine itself isn't a proven carcinogen, though it may accelerate vascular disease and promote clots. Plus inhaling anything into your lungs may exacerbate diseases like asthma. Other substances in smoke are likely the bigger players in cancer development. That being said, smokeless tobacco users do have increased risk of mouth cancer, and some think nicotine alone can promote breast cancer, so I don't think the issue is completely resolved.
