Old School 360 Posted February 22, 2012 our cable bill is 170 (internet too). Focking outrageous DirecTv just raised their rates, again. $92 a month. I'm thinking its time to make some changes.
JackARoot 2 Posted February 22, 2012 I have been without satelite/cable for about 2 years now. Pick up local via antenae in HD Have netflix instant. I was able to get all TV episodes I wanted online, very easily, but its been a little more difficult after the megaupload debacle. The only thing that is difficult is some of the sports. I could get most NFL games I wanted by antenae or espn3, but IU games have been a problem because most of them are on BTN. Next year, I'll get some cable/setelite provider. I really haven't missed it much since I got rid of it because I don't watch that much TV anyway. Again, the rub has been IU games which has become harder to take now that they have a winning season. BLS 314 Posted February 22, 2012 DirecTv just raised their rates, again. $92 a month. I'm thinking its time to make some changes. Yeah, i'm paying about $117 for TV and another $55 for internet. If I can buy a Roku box, stream netflix and hulu for about $20/month for both services, and $55 for internet, I'm saving almost $100. The only issue is I really like to watch AMC shows like Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, and I watch FX shows Justified and Sons of Anarchy. Not sure I can get all of those online (legally). redtodd 7 Posted February 22, 2012 What do you get for $9? It is pretty much local channels with a couple of other channels sprinkled in. The funny thing was I canceled Direct TV HD and the local channels in HD in this package look WAAAAAAAYYYYYY better than Direct TV did. The other good thing about the $9 package is it prevents Comcast from charging you an extra $15 on their internet for not having cable. So in the end, it is like saving $6. IGotWorms 4,059 Posted February 22, 2012 Netflix instant is actually pretty good for tv shows. Sucks for movies, but I can always find a show to get in to. Supplement that with some free Hulu and I bet you wouldn't miss cable for anything except sports.

nikki2200 4 Posted February 22, 2012 Looking to save some money. Anybody got any experience with Hulu, Netflix online, etc? Anybody used a Roku or WD TV Live box? Thoughts vs. cable? Netflix streaming is good for watching past seasons of TV shows (only those already released on DVD); it sucks for movies. I haven't been able to figure hulu out. They have old TV shows, but sometimes they only have a few episodes for each season. They have SOME of the current shows on TV, but only the last 5 episodes or something. I usually can't find any cable shows on there that recently aired, only major networks. And their movies suck. If you want to watch current TV programs, you should keep your cable. redtodd 7 Posted February 22, 2012 Did DirecTV charge you for cancelling with them or were you past your comittment? Past commitment. If you are under contract, I think you can put it on hold and maybe reactivate it during football.
Franknbeans 46 Posted February 22, 2012 Did it and love it. Cut my bill from over $140/mo to $42 for phone, roku (netflix) and internet. It takes a little getting used to but you find other things to do and netflix has a ton of cool shows to watch. I am not a huge movie guy so I don't really care about the relatively crappy selection of movies.

BiPolarBear 485 Posted February 23, 2012 I had Dish and got really tired of seeing their commercials saying what a great deal their service was. I was paying $96 a month with no HD. We had HBO and I miss True Blood and Boardwalk Empire, but I am glad to be on the cheap with Netflix. I agree that the movies are weak, but there are a few good ones if you seek them out. I bought the HD antennas and was getting lots of channels, but the tower that beamed the signal was just too far away. I missed a few football games and ended up getting a cheap cable service to cover local TX. It includes ESPN, so I can see those football games as well. Still way under the Dish charges. GettnHuge 2 Posted February 23, 2012 In Dec '10 my cable contract was up and my next rate in January was jacked way way up for just basic cable. I tried to get satellite in the past but too many trees in the way. So I told em to F off and went without from january until november. Still saw most of my favourite shows live online, if the feed wasn't available, a day or two later could stream it anyway. Course I lived alone. Fortunately last fall when I re-signed up, the cable rates were drastically cut. I spose they got some serious negative backlash from the huge price hikes. Savage Beast 1 Posted February 23, 2012 If you have fast internet service, this is the best free TV website I know of. When you click on the channel you want to watch, you have to wait for 15 seconds for the stream to load. After the 15 seconds runs down, it will say click here to watch the stream. Then you are good to go. Link http://www.stream2watch.me/live-tv
GettnHuge 2 Posted February 23, 2012 Ive been away from this too long to recommend anything good. azwatch.tv, formerly seeon.tv, formerly directon.tv, was the best. Lemme look up some old links...but I don't know how well their sources work. I see Robplay.tv has been seized by ICE http://www.phstream.com/2011/02/watch-history-tv-channel-live-stream.html http://livetvcafe.net/videos

donhaas 18 Posted February 23, 2012 Yeah, i'm paying about $117 for TV and another $55 for internet. Man, that is crazy... you must be getting some special nudey channels... I'm in the same region (kinda) as you and I'm paying $65 total a month for cable (with an HD box) and Internet.... I'm on a promotion with Charter for six months but still the difference between what we're paying is huge... I would ditch it. It's almost spring time.... time to get outside

Savage Beast 1 Posted February 24, 2012 Is there any way to still get HBO if you are also cutting the cable? Use the link I provided. You can stream live HBO, STARZ, and SHOWTIME there anytime for free. But sometimes the SHOWTIME streams don't work?
