windycityguy 1 Posted January 11, 2013 Rose of course is a HOFer. He deserves to be in. I heard a nice argument on the radio some time back. The HOF comes with perks. The HOF can bring in extra money. Rose doesn't deserve the perks and money because he was banned and did the next worse thing to steroids. So keep him out until the day he dies. After that you can put him in.

Rose is a piece of human garbage so I tend to agree with this. He goes to Cooperstown ever summer and signs autographs...for money. The guy would sell one of his kids if he could get away with it. I think I just read he has a new reality TV show.

Less traffic in Copperstown this year. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/17483517-419/baseball-hall-of-fame-class-of-2013-comes-up-empty.html The induction ceremony July 28 will honor three men selected by the Pre-Integration Era committee: Deacon White, who played in the 1800s; umpire Hank O’Day; and former New York Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert. The late Tom Cheek, who was a broadcaster for the Toronto Blue Jays, will be given the Ford C. Frick Award. Paul Hagen of MLB.com will be presented the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for sportswriting. The Hall also plans to honor 12 Hall of Famers who never had an formal induction ceremony because of wartime, including Rogers Hornsby, Lou Gehrig and 10 players elected in 1945. TD Ryan2 316 Posted January 11, 2013 just some random thoughts on all this: 1. it's kinda' funny that the All Time leader in Homer Runs (Bonds), Hits (Rose), and Strikeouts in a Game (Clemens) are not in. 2. (stolen from local radio) Jose Canseco is the icon of the steriods ers - he epitomizes everything about it. Hitters became more powerful. Pitchers became more powerful. Homeruns and Strikeouts were at an all time high. The faster pitch being hit by the more powerful bat sent the ball further than ever. But pitchers suffered the most b/c the extra muscle and power lead to more pitching injuries. Again - Jose Canseco - 400 homeruns, amazing speed, pitched ONCE and needed Tommy John surgery. 3. Biggio - doesn't bother me either way if he gets in or not. He was always a good player. He was always a guy you'd want on your team. But is Biggio really the best this era had to offer? All this baseball, all these players and you give me Biggio as the icon of the era? He may get it. He may deserve to be in. But can we all please stop being shocked that everyone doesn't see him as an all-time great baseball player? He's a very good player who played for a long time. 4. Next Year's Ballot - will make up for this year. This year's ZERO was just a statement being made by the BBWAA. Next year 5 to 8 will be inducted.

Stewburtx8 67 Posted January 11, 2013 4. Next Year's Ballot - will make up for this year. This year's ZERO was just a statement being made by the BBWAA. Next year 5 to 8 will be inducted. No chance. 2 would be very surprising. The ballot is just too clogged up with very good/great players. Greg Maddux is the only one I think should be a lock next year. Even he may have trouble. Frank Thomas and Tom Glavine should be locks and will eventually get in, but I doubt it happens next year. There just aren't enough votes to go around. The last time the BBWAA elected even 3 players in a year was in 1999 with Paul Molitor, Nolan Ryan, and Robin Yount. They haven't elected more than 3 players in a year since 1947 I believe. It's just going to keep getting worse. Next year has Maddux, Thomas, Glavine, Mussina. The following year has Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and John Smoltz. The year after that you got Griffey. Add them to Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, Biggio, L.Smith, Morris, Schilling, Bagwell, Piazza, Raines, Walker, McGriff, Trammell, etc. We are going to see a lot of great players stay on the ballot longer than they probably should unless the voting parameters change. Maddux is a lock. Frank Thomas and Glavine have a good shot at getting in (though maybe it's not next year). Thomas may get "extra credit" b/c he isn't really tied to PEDs. And then maybe Biggio and Morris get in too. I don't know the exact number for next year, but I think it will be "high" for HOF standards.

I think that would be the worst of any pitcher in the HOF.

I also think Frank Thomas should be a no doubt about it first ballot guy. I don't think Jack Morris should ever get in though. Drizzay 745 Posted January 11, 2013 It is widely speculated that if anyone who was caught with steriods gets in, there would be a HUGE backlash by current living members. Many have said they will forever boycott the HOF. The voters are scared of potential reprocussions from the current memebers.

They aren't scared of anybody- both voters and members don't want cheaters in for the exact same reason: they feel revulsion towards them.
Me_2006 14 Posted January 12, 2013 Just make a distinction like with the live ball era and let the best players in. It's the only way to do it. Pragmatism has to eventually outweight blind morality, even in a game as ass backwards as baseball.
