Recliner Pilot 61 Posted March 12, 2013 Good thing the only people who own pets make over $250,000. MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Pet owners listen up: You may want to start saving more money for veterinarian care this year. The reason goes all the way back to Washington and an unintended consequence from medical reform. Dog owner Lori Heiselman was surprised where her veterinarian posted a warning on Facebook. The notice read: “Because medical equipment and supplies will be going up in cost, that extra expense will have to passed on to the customers.” http://miami.cbslocal.com/2013/03/11/obamacare-may-bite-you-at-the-vets-office/

IGotWorms 4,060 Posted March 12, 2013 There is a long article in the link, Matlock. Feel free to dispute the fact Obama's medical device tax will hit Vets. It's a 2.3% tax and it doesn't even apply to devices that are only for use on animals, per your own link. Perhaps the Facebook vet is just looking for reasons to jack up his rates? Perhaps the Facebook vet is just looking for reasons to jack up his rates? Yes, it is a 2.3% tax that hits medical devices that are used by both vets and physicians......per my own link. And it will be passed along to the customer, just like every other cost, Matlock. You are doing a p!ss poor job disproving the fact this tax is hitting vets. :overhead:

Patriotsfatboy1 1,433 Posted March 13, 2013 Given the amount of money that they charge to give my dog a shot and stick a finger up her ass on a regular basis, I don't think that I am crying too much for them. Their costs have been going through the roof long before ObamaCare came to pass.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,433 Posted March 13, 2013 I just assumed they charged more every year anyway. Kids I can afford, pets I cannot. I don't get the emergency care for a pet. I love my dog, but if I am getting stuck for $1,500 to keep the thing going, I am tipping the vet to give her the blue juice. There are plenty of other dogs at the pound. Cats? I am not sure that I would pay the $100 a year for routine maintenance.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted March 13, 2013 Considering the fact veterinarians must complete 4 years of vet medical school, and the fact most have 4 years bachelor degrees - veterinarians don't make as much as you think. Many don't make even $100,000.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted March 13, 2013 Oh my God, the poor things! That's topping out. Many start out at $50 grand with mounds of student loans. And unlike human medicine, veterinary medicine isn't laced with all kinds of government susidies. A large chunk of what these people make has to go right back into their practice for equipment and things many regular doctors get provided, or help with anyways. The stats say entry level is more like $60k with many making $150k. If you go into private practice, you can make more. I don't think that we need to take up a collection at this point. I've got a cousin who went to veterinary school. She was saddled with a fair amount of debt and struggled to find a good job out of school. My understanding is that the market is not good for grads--there are more people coming out of school then there is demand for new vets. But my cousin knew that going in and chose to do it anyway, because that's what she really wanted and was willing to make some sacrifices. I don't think many people are going to get rich being vets. Though clearly some do from what they charge at some of the larger practices.

He said then, as do people in his office now - it is not a field you choose to make money.

And it's 20k tax free in DJing. That's living very comfortably in my small town. Not rich by any means, but never claimed I was. And you're right about paying child support. Fanasty winnings are gambling income which can be offset by gambling losses in the same period. Going to vegas 3 - 4 times a year more than offsets my winnings. Bert 1,128 Posted March 13, 2013 No, the 20k figure was after taxes. That's actually pretty awesome you are one of the very very few that report cash income. I know you worry about the greed of the 1% in this country I worry about the greed of the other 99%, most of whom cheat on their taxes. They find it okay to talk about the greed of the wealthy but don't want to talk about their own greed.
