Major Roof Rat Problem

Recommended Posts

I can hear them at night and also hear them returning from outside early in the morning. I went up in the attic and had a look. I am the guy that neighbors call if they have a snake or possum. I took one look at the attic and knew the problem was out of my league. Lots of rat pellets and tunnels and runways in the insulation. I could do the trapping, but would never be able to find all the places they use to get in. Also I read about the need to decontaminate the attic and replace the insulation.

The guy from Critter Control just left. I signed right up. There is a lifetime guarantee that we will never have the problem again. They re-shoot it with an insulation that kills insects and irritates rodents so they won't live in it.

It will be a few weeks before they get back to do the work. It will be interesting to see how many rats they trap.

Rattus rattus. Roof Rats. I saw one in the back yard and got a dead one out of the pool last week.

I am sure this was established in the past, but where exactly do you live?

If I could find one that knew how to block up the entry points, and re-shoot insulation.

urban setting? usually its mice if you are rural, suburban... Just call a pest control co. not a big deal. My college roomate's family business was pest control, I remember our off campus apt had a mouse issue because it was an utter zhithole. He caught one on one of those sticky pads. We asked how he kills the mouse and disposes of it. He folded it in half, stomped on it and tossed it in the trash...

Worked at a restaurant that had a mice problem one summer. The po-boy station shared a wall with the wemens bathroom. Po-Boy maker guy would be in the middle of making a sammich and hear a woman scream from the bathroom. He'd stop what he was doing and wait for the mice to run through the wall. When they did, he'd stomp them dead, kick them to the side and finish making the sammich.

Not mice, gang. Roof Rats. I have seen them in the back yard and some of them are around 15 or 16 inches long. I went up into the attic and know the difference between a mouse turd and a rat turd. I am having the attic decontaminated and having all the old insulation removed. The new insulation is cellulose based and has boric acid in it that will kill bugs and make rats and mice uncomfortable so they won't stick around.

I live in a regular neighborhood with single family homes and yards.

How the fock do they get in the attic? Do they climb up the exterior walls, or are they also in the house proper?

They are a big problem here in AZ. Supposedly my neighbors on each side have had evidence of them, but luckily we haven't. Possibly because we don't have an attic. :dunno:

I always figured you to live in Keller or someplace nice. You must live close to Cruzer.

The animal control guy said they can go straight up a wall; wood or brick. He said that they can get in a hole about the size of a quarter. Only in the attic now.

I was told we would be fine. I will be the only one who ever goes into the attic, and that is very rarely.

that's what they said about asbestos.

We had a rat make a hole in the wood floor under the dishwasher about the the size of a quarter and burrow under the molding connected to the washer to get in the house.

I put that green rat poison in the gutters when I see and hear signs of them. Once they eat enough of it they look for water All the water sources around my house are on the ground. Once they drink the water, they die right there. In fifteen years, I have not had one die in the house from poison.

Also, go to the pound a get the baddest male cat they have. Big ass black cats or the huge yellow ones are the best for keeping the rats, mice, and other un-wanteds away. Feed them good and make sure they have a place outside. If you don't like cats inside, make sure they have a place outside that is theirs. It will probably be the entire neighborhood but they will take care of you and any rodents that hang around your house.

Plus, all the urine and barf got power-washed back into the gulf! Enjoy the Crawfish!!

What's the difference between a Roof Rat and a Nutrea??

A rat can and will invade your home and eat your children. A nutria will eat your grass and salad shoot your children.

Nutrias are harmless and actually taste like like chicken. They eat veggies unlike their cousins the rats. I had a rat in my house eat a Hanna Montana poster we put in the attic for storage to make fun of my daughter when she got older. The fawking rat ate the Hannah Montanna poster and left the Iron Maiden 'Eddie' poster I had alone. Had I had nutrias in the attic, my Terri Shiavo porn would have been eaten.

You understand that you're actually making an argument FOR the rats, right?

Thank you guys for making my RatsAss thread bloom with some personality.

All of have to add at this point is the price for all the service:

$7,125.00

That was 10% down and the rest due at the completion of the service.

I tried another service before I settled with these guys. The first service would not do the rat removal unless I signed a long term monthly contract for outside trapping. $80.00 a month. That was basically a thousand dollars a year for something I didn't even want. I am not trying to save the world or the neighborhood from rats; I just want them outta my attic. :bandana:

Nothing against kitties. The attic just has too much damage to ignore.

If you'd had the cat in the first place....
