Rant - Why is it virtually impossible to trade in my league?!?

Recommended Posts

I try to throw out an initial offer that is reasonable.

I think your logic is flawed in that every person trading is "in it for themselves", any trade is done with the perception that it benefits me more than it benefits you.

What does it hurt to propose a counter offer?

You don't reply you've just shut down any opportunity you might have had to improve your situation. Let's say someone offered my Kirk Cousins for Peyton Manning, of course I'm going to reject it, but I might also reply with something like "I'm not looking to move this player but I will consider an offer for player XYZ". You're telling me your entire roster is set in stone, and you wouldn't consider any trade offer?

This kind of explains to me why some many of the people have so few people to trade with.

For most people if someone offers Cutler for Bell or Cousins for Manning, it does not initiate discussion it closes it down. It is viewed as either a joke or an insult. It may place the person on "do not discuss trades" list.

I just did a trade in my league. The guy is a big Seattle fan and wanted Harvin. I tried to give him Harvin/Jennings for Charles/Kniles. Went back and forth and I finally gave him Harvin/Cruz +100 Faab (out of 1000) for Megatron/Niles. Who knows, but it is fun to trade.

Well if someone is so insulted by a lowball offer that they refuse to discuss future trades with that other owner, they're missing out.

Nobody brings their #1 offer to the table right away, of course you want to go a bit on the low end of the scale to see what you can get. Ideally someone counters and you get an idea of how far they're willing to move. Someone offers you pennies for gold, of course you reject it...but if you countered and opened some discussion and they might have offered silver for silver and you both improve.

IF you reject a ridiculous offer, then the other player comes back a second or third time with something totally ridiculous, then they might be written off.

I start trade negotiations low and work up. I try to offer what I feel to be a legit opening offer, but people's player evaluations vary widely. I never take offense at a lowball offer but I will ask the person if they truly think the offer they sent was fair.

Ever? I certainly have before. I also always look at the other team before I make an offer.

But type of league matters immensely. There's just not going to be as much trading in a redraft league.

Whenever someone asks if I want their player X, I don't answer who I'm willing to deal, I ask who they want from my team. It makes no logical sense to tell someone who they should want. Plus they might actually suggest someone I wouldn't expect and who I want to get rid of vs who I thought theyd want. I also try to be witty or sarcastic or just plain silly in trade comments. They may be more willing to deal or send counters if you check your inflated ego. On the other hand, I can tell that some in this thread are too easily offended by offers and cry too much.

League im commish we have had 5 trades already. We changed the process to commish approves instead of veto so the trades will go through immediately. Ill only veto if its clear garbage. All 12 guys have clue but obviously with the trades below so are good and some are bad. Its $100 team with $5 high scorer pool each week so if someone makes what id call a stupid trade then they are idiots and other guy did some good selling.

We get trading and then everyone wants to get in on the action. I like trading just as much as playing.

  • 10/1 Dez Bryant and Reggie Bush for LeSean McCoy and DeAndre Hopkins
  • 10/1 Percy Harvin and Bishop Sankey for Alshon Jeffery
  • 9/30 Demaryius Thomas and Matt Asiata for Le'Veon Bell and Vincent Jackson
  • 9/19 Tom Brady and Bishop Sankey for Phillip Rivers and Victor Cruz
  • 9/18 Keenan Allen and Niles Paul for Julio Jones

I think his issue is that nobody puts their best trade offer forward first out of the gate. Trades COULD happen if other owners made a counter offer instead of a flat out rejection.

Trade offer - Counter. Perhaps the counter gets accepted, or perhaps the original offer is improved.

I think it's stupid some owners won't even consider a trade, I would consider any proposal that came my way, if it was total garbage, I'd send a message pointing out why this isn't equal value. A blanket rejection doesn't do anything.

to take the other side, why should I reply to your bullshit offer?

If I have brady and RG3 I am unlikely to trade for cutler (Who always gets hurt), much less move Gio who is one of the few top backs who is actually performing.

perspective is a mother dude eh?

we have had 22 trades in the league I commish this year. I have been in leagues like yours and they seem to be less fun.

Most people will write you off with your first stupid offer. I know that's what I do. You should probably read "Getting to Maybe" before commenting on this issue.

What I hate most is when an owner says "I can't trade him" "I've had him since his rookie year" So facking what!!! You're not married to them I say. People get way to attached to their players.

People completely fall I. Love with their players and totally overvalue them. Only way I am able to pull off a trade is usually give up depth to get a batter starter and not get any depth back.

I offered an owner Zac Stacy and R.Hillman for K.Benjamin and C.Hyde and the owner scoffed.

Thought it was a decent trade since the owner only has to start Doug Martin and Masiata

I've given up training in this league.
