GGG = the next Hagler or Hearns ...... hell maybe Tyson

Recommended Posts

GGG is a middle weight some might not of heard much of him. He is a Kazakhstan native (insert Borat joke) who is just DEMOing boxing right now. Has 19 straight KO's against the best opponent willing to face him. Sergio dodged him for 3 years now Cotto and Ward want no part of him ... (Though after being off a year or so Ward would need this fight so that "could" happen). IMO GGG is more exciting than Pac Man in his prime or at least as Exciting - people say boxing is dead after May - Pac . I think GGG is the next BIg PPV boxign star. GGG just ties Tyson's streak of 19 KO's and Tyson did that early in his career GGG has done it at his peak litterally fighting the best person that was willing to fight him.

I've been hearing about him for a year or so, and a lot more lately. Just watched a highlight video. He doesn't look like a PPV star to me.

Pacquiao was so dynamic, hopping around, punching from all angles, and powerfully explosive, etc. The smaller man beating these larger guys in most cases.

GGG doesn't have that same dynamic. He looks technically sound, and very heavy handed. Exciting, but nothing like Pacquiao.

Furthermore, he is too old. He is already 32. Whereas Pacquiao was 26 when he went through the trilogy with Morales. And Mayweather was 26 when he fought Gatti and became a PPV attraction. And they were both about 30 when they beat Delahoya.

And that's the other thing. Pacquiao and Mayweather both benefited by beating other PPV attractions like Delahoya, Cotto, Mosely, Hatton, etc. GGG doesn't have those opportunities.

Maybe he peaks as an Antonio Margarito level PPV attraction. Or a Cotto with some luck.

How much weight difference between him and Mayweather?

GGG fights at middleweight, 160 lbs.

Mayweather usually fights at welterweight, 147 lbs. But has went up into the 154 class a couple times. Fought Cotto and Canelo Alverez there, but he only weighed in at 150 lbs.

On fight night, Floyd is still 147-150. I just read GGG often weighs 170 lbs.

Maybe they'll meet at 154 if GGG starts to become a household name and it could be a big draw. Mayweather running out of opponents that have a chance

Don't see it happening. GGG is a much bigger threat than he is a draw, a big part of the reason no one wants to fight him.

I never heard of him until MDC brought him up, but that seems to be the way it is shaping up.

Slavic version of Ricky Hatton.

Going to the New England Golden Glove finals in Lowell, MA on Thursday. I'll ask Mickey Ward what he thinks.

I don't know anything about GGG's personality or business savvy, but if he's smart, he starts calling out Mayweather. Implying he's a pussie and that he's ducking him. Tell people he'd fight Mayweather in a winner-takes-it-all deal. Leave Mayweather no excuses.

GGG is fighting the best fighter he can - NOONE wants to fight him he has KO's his last 19 opponets - the last one in the 11th round - the only time any fighter has taken him to an 11th and that guy paid a price of getting his head and gut smashed in over an over just to say he lasted the longest with GGG.. The guy has speed , and iron chin, good defense , and all out offense assault of power punches and never seems to tire. If GGG was American he would be the biggest draw in boxing. I guess I agree he can;t get anyone to fight him -- his only legit shot at a big fight is Ward but after a year off Ward isn't the draw he was and even Ward is only saying he would fight GGG if it came down to it he likely finds a reason to back out.. If Sergio would have fought him a few years ago GGG would be a household name y now - he wouldn't fight him becasue A he knew he would get his ass kicked and B. GGG wouldn't draw the numbers right now. If you are a boxign fan or even a casual fan watch this guy fight - it's just pure fun to watch this dude work and just beat the sh!t out of people. I meant it when I said I compare him to Hagler but he is like a Hearns/Hagler hybrid. He is 32 and has maybe 5 more years of prime boxign left - but he has been this good for several years - just noone will give GGG a fight ... which is smart as they don't want to lose and risk serious damage.

NO CHANCE May wants any part of GGG -- he didn't want Manny and GGG hit a ton harder than Manny - GGG would knock Manny or May out in 8 rounds or less.

Newbie, he is calling out Cotto and trying everything he can to get Cotto to fight him which he is Scared to death to do as he knows GGG will knock his ass out. There is a chance as I said or Andre Ward - GGG though. Both are top 5 P4P fighters in their own right.

But Mayweather prides himself on being the greatest of all time. And he's conceited. He truly believes it. If GGG called him out, he'd have to fight or it would look like he's scared.

May would retire early way before ever fighting GGG no matter if GGG called him out every day

Mayweather wants to stay undefeated more than he wants to take on all comers.

I know and to think May would move up in weight to fight a catch weight against GGG . May didn't even want to want Cotto back in 08 and GGG is better or at least more dangerous than Cotto was... Last person May wants to fight is a big time power puncher who will just rush him every round throwing bombs without getting that tired. That fight would never happen.

I know it's fun to bash Mayweather.. But it's stupid for anyone to think he should fight a relative no name that outweighs him by 20 lbs just because the no name is dangerous and/or calls him out. Especially when that fight would make him no more money than a fight with a Marcos Maidana.

Being the best fighter in the world doesn't mean that weights don't matter. It's as if the only goal is to see Mayweather lose, and people would want him to fight a heavyweight if that's what it took.

Sidenote: Pacquiao is beating him anyway. I'm feeling it.

This. Before I start believing that everyone in the sport is afraid of this guy, I need to see him beat someone who doesn't look like they grabbed him from a local gym ten minutes before the fight.

Who did Tyson ever fight that wasn't a tomato can, then he lost to the ultimate tomato can in Buster Douglass.

Who did Tyson really beat?

Tyson was the most hyped and over-rated of all time. Don King at his best.

There was a two year run that there wasn't another heavyweight in the world who could face Tyson and not look like a scared little girl. Tyson had a rage and fierceness that I never witnessed before in my life. Grown men who had fought and succeeded all their lives looked like they were going to sh!t their pants as soon as they walked into the ring. He was over-rated from the Douglass fight on, though. People kept thinking he was going to regain what he once was. It never happened.

That's a bunch of crap. Douglass was a 50 to 1 dog, why wasn't he scared?

Who did he beat during that 2 year span?

It was all hype and Douglass did not believe the hype.

^ this x infinity.

btw, a 65 year old Jake LaMotta would've made Tyson his biotch if they both entered the ring in '86

How long was he with Don King? Tyson was overrated when he fought Douglas, he looked fat, out of shape, and fought a lazy fight.

Prior to that, he fought Micheal Spinks, former champion, as the only real name in that two year span. Way to narrow down the parameters to try to make a silly argument.

Newbie when you challenge all the big names and they run from you - what can he do? Cotto is talking about just giving up his middleweight weight Lineal title belt rather than face GGG.. Also the last 3 fights he has had have come against solid to good fighters -- this last one was a top 5 middleweight

The good thing about boxing is that eventually you need to fight the top contenders or they strip your belt. So whoever these superstars are who are ducking him, can't do it forever.

Tyson really never beat anyone the only 2 good fighters he faced he lost -- Evander and Lennox. But Tyson captured America with his style and yes his style punked out a lot of lesser fighters. It was fun to watch Tyson beat up a bunch of nobody's. Honestly I think Klitchko is better than Tyson

Who did Tyson duck? Some of those guys were considered good fighters up until Tyson dismantled them. Maybe it was a down time for the heavyweight division, but he plowed through it like a hot knife through butter.

He only won every title by beating all the champions and holding them for multiple title defenses.
