Swastika was used as a symbol for nazi party who main goal was the death of jews and with taking over the world.

The confederate flag, specifically the one you know not all the others there are, was used as southerners battle flag in a war that a multiple issues, the largest stemming from taxes and tariffs implemented on them from the north.

And the swastika was used in may religions and cultures as a symbol of luck, as a greeting, or as a symbol of the sun. Does it's history as a symbol of goodness cancel out it's association with Nazi Germany and genocide in peoples' minds? No, just as the history of the Confederate flag doesn't cancel out it's association with racism in peoples' minds.

So, essentially, they are the same. When a majority of people look at them, they associate them with bad stuff.

Last time I checked I didn't see Jews wearing swastikas. I do however see black folk wearing confederate flag clothes and defending the flag. That should answer everything you need

Yes, your anecdotal reference is all that I need to convince me that the confederate flag is a wonderful representation of our historical past.

Dude, your explanation of why it's not a racist symbol failed so bad that you had to fall back on "I've seen black folks who don't seem mind it", and when that failed even worse, you pull the "I wouldn't expect you to understand" card?

Lol it didn't fail. It's tough trying to argue with a retard so I don't. No matter what I say, no matter what facts I pull out, or examples I give you won't change your mind. So I don't bother trying

Just curious, do you think that there are more people who dislike that flag than support it, of any ethnicity? Should the flag be removed if opposition to it reaches a predetermined level in terms of popular vote perhaps?

Here is just as much of a fact.

I live in the south. ..99% of the people i see wearing or depicting that flag are rednecks who are likely to use the n word when no black people around.

There you go.

What facts have you put out? You seem to be a little too thick to understand that just because the history of the flag wasn't implicitly racist and that some folks down south (that I and others apparently don't understand) wear it on their clothes (even black people  ), it doesn't mean that it's not a racist symbol to most people.

Just stop with the Swastika stuff. Holy cow.

Count me in the group that thinks it's prolly in bad taste to fly it in the Capitol grounds but this is getting pretty outrageous. Good grief.

I think that most folks likely don't give it a second thought, but if they did, as they are now because of this kid killing folks, yes, more would dislike it than support it.

I think the flag should be removed right now. When the situation arose a few years back when they were discussing it, I thought it should be removed then. If they put it on the ballot and the folks from that state want to keep it, then keep it.

Might be where you're from, but charleston is different. Even the tour guides are dressed as confederate soldiers.

i also feel that hate groups like the kkk should be outlawed as they don't fall under the spirit of free speech

Who then decides what is acceptable and not acceptable? The town? The county? The state? Who is the custodian of morality and ethics for these people?

as you can tell, society dictates what is culturally acceptable, plus with the addition social media we can put everything on trial and execute a judgement in a matter of minutes as you can see with the confederate flag issue

This holds true in most of south Carolina's population. And what most people don't understand is that it was American flags flying over ships that brought slaves to America. Not the confederate flag. Most of the time the people you see with rebel flag memorabilia are nice people. Like I've said before there's been plenty of black folk that wear it and support it. A couple of my friends are that way too. A majority of people see it as a southern cultural thing. Others see it as racist and that's them. They are entitled to their opinion. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out

It's going to be gone because it's the issue du jour. what I don't want to see is someone wearing it and people instantly call them racist.

You can profile a majority, not any minority.

Not sure how folks aren't understanding that.

I don't know, maybe becausethe Nazis exterminated 6 million people in the matter of a few years vs slavery in the U.S. affecting a few hundred thousand over 70 or so years?

Yea lol. But I see the flag being taken off capital grounds and that's fine. If it offends people then yes take it off the grounds. However, don't go trying to all of a sudden change the names of schools or streets or military bases because they were named after confederate generals. Also, when they take the flag off the grounds (cause they will) it doesn't mean the flag will just die out. There will still be plenty of people selling it, flying it, wearing it, and supporting it. So it makes no difference to me. I just don't agree that they start attacking the flag over someone shooting people.

You know the flag was basically a relic until strom Thurmond trying to create his "Dixiecrat" party.

it times past you might have a point, but if social media stays on this topic, things could get much uglier for those who feel the way you do

I bet you won't answer this question: Would you rather be black and have you and your family sent to a plantation in the south in the early 1800's or be Jewish in the 1940's and you and your family are sent to Auschwitz? Come on now, let's see if you can pick one without bloviating about it.

Even with social media the culture down there is different. If you haven't been and haven't lived there it's hard to understand. Like I said event when the flag is removed people will still support the flag. There's nothing social media or anyone can do about that. If they try to forcefully do something that won't go over well either. So let them remove the flag from the grounds and be done with it

well it looks like the flags will be removed from the grounds, all the stores will no longer carry licensed merchandise and many schools will change names, mascots, songs and lots of street names will probably be changed as well

I doubt schools will change. Same with songs and mascots and streets. And there are still places that will carry the flag and the shirts. I'm not worried about that.
