Frank M 181 Posted June 24, 2015 Just a whole lotta stupid flying around here. The confederacy was what it was and the flag stands for many things, including fighting a civil war so you can keep your slaves. But this is America and free speech and all, so all this banning sh1t is just going too far. Maybe just everybody tone it down a bit and we can call it good? Is someone calling for banning anything? I just see people calling for it not to be flying over a government building and a bunch of corporations voluntarily agreeing to not sell items associated with it. And if you carefully read posty's sobbing rant piece, it doesn't say that anyone banned anything, just some folks calling for it and some schools changing their names and mascots. Frank M 181 Posted June 24, 2015 So out of this whole tragedy the main, overriding thing people are talking about is a flag? Good grief. Sometimes it takes a tragedy for people to start talking about doing the right thing.

If some bearded yahoo wants to hang a confederate flag outside of his trailer next to his Dale Earnhardt banner , more power to him. But it should be banned in public places. parrot 789 Posted June 24, 2015 What's with the South's continued adoration of this stuff anyway? I would think the Confederate Flag is just a reminder of that time they got collectively -punched.

Djgb13 2,339 Posted June 24, 2015 So you missed the other times its been an issue? Ole Miss changed things up with theor mascot because of yhe symbolism it had with it. They changed it from an old white guy to a bear named Rebel. Now they will probably have to change the name completely. The fact is no one cared that walmart, eBay, amazon, ect were selling rebel flags until now. People are clutching at things to attack. America has now turned into a country that wants to please everybody who "gets offended" over every little thing.

The confederate flag has long been an issue for people...it has come up multiple times over yhe last 15 years or more I typically just make fun of people who want to fly the flag of a vanquished enemy of the United States. As I said earlier, sometimes it takes something like this kid killing a bunch of folks to drag this stuff out into the light. Should we not insist that our government (state, local, and federal) not proudly display symbols associated with racism? It hasn't been two weeks since that association has been made, you know. It's been there for a long time. Nobody said you can't fly it in your yard or have it on your truck or your clothes. Seems like it's not the people who want it taken down who have their panties in a knot.

I personally don't care if it's removed from the state capital grounds or not. However people are starting to go over the top with it. Changing the names of schools because it was named after Robert E Lee or changing their school song from "Dixie". That is way over the top seeing as how neither of those condone racism

The fact that you think they are the same shows you don't know the history behind them. As for the flag, many of you don't resize some state flags are modeled after the confederate flag. Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi are prime examples of that. But since they don't look like the battle flag no one really cares.
