cbfalcon 825 Posted August 30, 2015 So we find out the results from the Judge this week. Just can't see him making anyone happy so he might as well teach one side a lesson. My guess is the judge attacks the league in scathing statement. He will do everything but call their actions criminal. Then he will uphold the suspension due to the legalities of the CBA. In theory, his statements will open the door for more lawsuits and really destroy the league's credibility with the public. But the NFL swings such a big stick that the headlines may simply say something like "Judge rules Goodell's suspension of Brady for cheating is proper"....then his attack on the league's credibility will be buried and minimized in paragraph 6. Djgb13 2,339 Posted August 30, 2015 Sorry, can't claim that. The Brady faction wanted it to go to court. Right now the main thing I want to happen in this case is for Goodell to lose a lot of the power he's got. He has way too much and it has gone to his head since he thinks he can pretty much do whatever he wants to with no consequences

He has way too much and it has gone to his head since he thinks he can pretty much do whatever he wants to with no consequences I think you can be rest assured that no matter what, Goodell has taken a huge hit here. I know Brady and the Pats is bigger, for now, but I feel that history will be kinder to them than Goodell. The only good thing to come out of Goodells tenure is money. Just like Bud Selig in baseball, and they have modern technology and fantasy to thank for that. Goodell goes down as the worst commissioner of any sport in modern times. There's no getting away from that. And it's not like he's a martyr for the good of the game and his taking the hits for a greater ideal. Far form it. He's an egomaniac, plain and simple. Definitely agree. The NFL would have blown up the way it did anyway without Goodell. And everything he does hasn't been for the good of league but for his own agenda. When you have the NFL draft and every time he comes to the podium he's greated with a bunch of "boos" from pretty much everyone that should tell you everything you need to know about the man. I just hope the result from all of this is a curb of the commissioners power and hopefully the removal of Goodell (even though I don't know how likely that will be). Still, the teams, players, and the fans have lost trust in the guy

He has way too much and it has gone to his head since he thinks he can pretty much do whatever he wants to with no consequences I am willing to bet he is done. I don't know how long the process will take to play out though. The best move for the owners is to wait until everything hits rock bottom. Then shove it all on Goodell and get rid of him. For instance, you don't want to get rid of him next week, only for the worst of the concussion stuff to come out in 6 months and be the new guys problem. But Goodell has publicly demonstrated that he is motivated by ego and a desire for power, while demonstrating a complete lack of integrity and character. On one hand, the owners don't care. They are making more money than ever, and Goodell gives them a guy to shove to the front to take their bullets. But that only works as long as the media plays along and feeds the desired narrative to the unintelligent public. But now a small voice is starting to be heard. A narrative is starting to emerge. Even the people in this thread that want to see Brady hang are admitting that Goodell and the league handled this horribly. Think about that.
NewbieJr 541 Posted August 31, 2015 Goodell is not done. Far from it. The most successful commissioner in sports history, from a financial standpoint. I could, however, see changes in the way the appeal process works, although that could be a very sticky situation, since the NFLPA agreed to it. The league will want a concession, since they probably gave one at the time of negotiations. I think the suspension his reduced to two games. It's the perfect solution. A middle point. Brady cheated and the league mishandled the investigation. Meet in the middle. The only fair thing to do.

Brady cheated and the league mishandled the investigation. Meet in the middle. The only fair thing to do. I suspect the owners see it like many of us here. The NFL is a machine right now and whoever followed Paul Tagliabue was destined to be the most successful commissioner of all time from a financial standpoint. Really, his biggest job is to keep the train on the tracks and not screw it up. Goodell has managed to screw it up..... The League of Denial, the agenda to take down the Patriots to help out a league exec that hates them (according to some), applying double jeopardy to athletes and lying about what you knew for PR sake, being in charge when reports of the NFL covering up concussion info for 2 decades, billions lost in lawsuits related to said concussions, creating new rules and retroactively punishing players for mistakes in the past before the rule was in place, etc. I mean, now when I read that a guy retired due to concussion concerns, and the league made him come in and take a drug test weeks after the retirement, I find it just as likely as not that they intended to fake a positive result so they could discredit the guy when he spoke out about concussions. In short, Goodell and his lack of integrity, the known lies fed to media to push an agenda, a proven track record of lying in hearings, editing reports, etc has life long die hard fans wondering if they are supporting something comparable on some levels to Evil Corp. Goodell has to go. The NFL would be insane to risk the narrative I'm feeling gaining any stream. It's just not worth it. I don't think it happens over night, but if he is commissioner when the 2017 season kicks off, I would be shocked.

People often see what they want. When they don't like a guy...its all ego. Seems more to me he is motivated by the bottom line and by what the owners pay him to do. By all accounts, the owners wanted him to come down hard on the Patriots and that is what he did. They may not like how things turned out with the publicity now...but he does their bidding so they don't have to take the crap for it. Things were handled poorly...and he takes the heat for things the owners wanted. That is why he gets paid so well. He may end up gone...but don't think it will be anytime soon. Here's a tip: the league and it's teams hate them because of their constant cheating. That's the agenda. Two draft picks and a million bucks. And their owner didn't argue or bat an eye. cbfalcon 825 Posted August 31, 2015 Could definitely see that happen. If it does I can also see Goodell increasing Brady's suspension like he threatened I think Goodell is borderline criminal, but I think the chances of that happening are zero percent. As is, if the suspension stands there will be a loud chorus singing as to how the league got away with murder here..... Increasing the suspension just starts a new process, as then there would likely be appeals and suits over the increase... it would be such a "Nobody shall ever question my authority, as I am your ruler" type of move, that Goodell would seal his fate. But then again, Goodell has shown me he cares more about his image and ego than he does the good of the league, so maybe it's 5% likely. Then after he is removed from office, I predict he stars in a reality show or something. That's a prediction I am making now by the way. After Goodell's run as commissioner ends, he will want to stay in the spotlight somehow. The funniest version is hosting a judge type show called "The Enforcer", but he will remain on our television screens one way or another.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted August 31, 2015 This is the real world, not some cow patch with a bunch of toothless morons who pay real money for fake stock. Just stay quiet while real business gets done. That's REAL business. Well, I think that it arises out of the fact that the lawsuit filed by the league is "NFL Management Council vs. NFLPA". Since Goodell is not on the Management Council, one would think that the head of that Council (and presumably all others) should be part of the proceedings. The Judge told Mara to be there and he will be there. I still think that both sides are pretty hunkered down and settlement does not appear to be forthcoming. NewbieJr 541 Posted August 31, 2015 No he wants to punish. His mindset from the get go to was to punish. He just needed evidence. Lack of evidence dealing with Brady's involvement didn't stop him He agreed to settle for a reduced suspension (not sure how reduced) in exchange for Brady's admission. Brady refused. The punishment is done. The two draft picks are huge for a team who will be losing it's QB and coach in a few years. Hard to rebuild without draft picks. Goodell just wants Brady to be honest, so the public understands that this wasn't all for nothing. But he obviously wasn't getting that from Brady.
cbfalcon 825 Posted August 31, 2015 He wouldn't care if it was reduced to zero games. As long as Brady would step up and admit to what he did. Goodell would love for Brady to play in the season opener. He just doesn't like being lied to and having repeated cheating in his league. Adrien Peterson admitted what he did. How did Goodell handle it? I'll tell you. - When AP was put on the exempt list in September, he was told by Troy Vincent that he would be reinstated and a suspension would be reduced to time served once his case was resolved. - On November 4th, he resolved it, pleading down to a misdemeanor. So I guess he was back? Nope. - Instead the league suspended him for the rest of the year with Goodell declaring that he could see into ADP's brain and heart, and that Peterson's remorseful speech from September wasn't remorseful enough. - In February, a federal judge over turned the suspension. Why? Amongst other reasons, because Goodell made made up new rules after the fact, and punished an old misdemeanor under rules that didn't exist when the misdemeanor occurred. Anyway, now that the federal judge overturned the suspension, I guess ADP was back in time for free agency, which is when teams could realistically trade for him or whatever. Wait, no? - Goodell ignored the federal judges ruling and kept ADP suspending until mid April. By that point, cap space was gone, and Peterson's ability to have any say in his future was reduced. So he not only suspended him, but decided to fock over Peterson's long term future as much as he could. But yeah, go ahead and act like all Goodell wants is these guys to step up and take responsibility. The dude is a narcissistic. He wants to swing the big diick and assert authority. Basically, you say he wanted Brady to admit it. Ha. If Brady admitted everything, Goodell would then say "He didn't show enough remorse" as he did with ADP for his misdemeanor. cbfalcon 825 Posted August 31, 2015 He agreed to settle for a reduced suspension (not sure how reduced) in exchange for Brady's admission. The only thing I've seen is where sources have stated Goodell would reduce the suspension if Brady admitted to perjury. In other words, he wanted Brady to confess to a felony that would in theory give the NFL the power to try and send Brady to prison for up to 5 years.
