Updated: Doug's NFL Draft Profiles - RB Kenneth Dixon

Recommended Posts

I just don't see it in Goff or Wentz, and for damn sure I don't see it in Lynch. At 4 overall, you'd better be sure. With the Cowboys line, maybe there's a little more play in developing a young QB. Just saw a bit on the NFL Network with Jack Conklin, and he stated that teams were most impressed with his grasp of the pro style system of offense since they ran such at Michigan State. How do you think that's going to play with the QB in that system? I'm not big on the physical talent level of Connor Cook, but who was enamored with Romes when he came out lol...? I actually think the safer bet for Dallas is to go BPA at four, then perhaps Cook with their second rounder. And BTW I've seen mocks with Cook going 20th overall to the Jets. Obviously that's a reach, but I digress.

It's not just making the pick, but it's developing your guy too. A Conner Cook comes in, sits behind Romo for a couple years, and you've got your future ready to go. If Romes goes down, you throw the kid in there. I just watched a slobber story on the NFL Channel, where that clown Elliott Harrison was gushing over the job Jameis Winston did in his rookie season. Let's see... Winston completed 312 of 535 passes (58%) for 4044 yds with 22 TD passes and 15 INTs. He did have a very high yds per attempt ratio. But look at the supporting cast of Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, and a Doug Martin who went crazy last year. What's more, Winston played in the putrid NFC South, where the defenses he faced averaged out as the 17th ranked against the pass with only TWO being top ten passing defenses.

Contrast that with Derek Carr's rookie year. Carr completed 348 of 599 passes (58%) for 3270 yds with 21 TD passes and 12 INTs. Carr's supporting cast on a bad Raider team included James Jones, Andre Holmes, and Darren McFadden. The defenses Carr faced in the AFC West averaged 10th in passing defense, and he faced NINE top ten pass defenses that year including the number one overall 49ers in Wk 14, which he shredded for 22-28 250 yds and 3 Tds.

The point of this being Winston gets the pub because he was a #1 overall pick. But the better value, and in fact the better QB, is Derek Carr. In about 2-3 years Carr will be among the league's elite QB's. But what's important here is that by NOT reaching for a QB at Four (same position Dallas picks at now coincidentally) Oakland was able to select Khalil Mack, who IS one of the better defenders in the NFL.

Sorry for the filibuster, just thought there is a correlation.

Lines rise and fall pretty quickly. Its not like the line will be insane forever.

This is a shallow draft for offense, but it's quite deep defensively - particularly defensive line. Regarding Treadwell I see him more like Boldin than Hopkins lite.

Your exactly right. This is why (from a fantasy stand point). I've been advocating trading your first this year, for a first next year. Even though its an unknown draft slot pick. If you do draft later than you would've this year. The potential game breakers is really deep next year, so from a talent point, even with a later pick, you'll make out.

If their IS someone you have a man crush on, by all means take the guy. But otherwise, trade out if at all possible.

Back to the RB position: Derrick Henry

A better version of Brandon Jacobs?

(WR Sterling Shepard coming tomorrow.)

word around my dynasty sewing circle is that he will be the third pick in our rookie draft this summer... provided he goes to 'the right' team.

Personally, I think he will do just fine in the NFL. I figure he serves as an RB 2 with the potential to bang out a good 10-14 TDs a year on the right team..

I would draft people like Coleman and Thomas before him...

actually, based on this scouting report, this kid may be a good fit in Dallas. If he slides to round 2, it would be interesting to see if the cowboys go for it.

(from the profile) Unusual size (6-3) makes it difficult for him to get lower than his defenders and gives opponents a large strike zone, potentially making it difficult for him to stay healthy consistently in the NFL.

The single, biggest, individual thing that worries me about Henry... At 6'3" his shelf life seems very short - and very untrusting with a 2nd round pick.

That is a fair comment.

Maybe that's why he is a second(or maybe third) round pick instead of a first.

but for a team in 'win now' mode, he may be a good value pickup.

a lot of teams out there would like a productive RB. I could see Cleveland going after this kid too.

Doug mentioned Dallas and Carolina as ideal landing spots in his writeup. I could see him in the "big-back" role in New England and to a lesser extent Seattle or Washington.

What if the Rams want to super backfield their way to a super bowl? Maybe they wanted to make sure Henry didnt go before their pick?

His lack of pass catching is a big red flag for ppr leagues.

I can't fathom the Patriots moving up to grab him even in the 2nd round. I think that they like the depth of players 50-100 for this draft group. Maybe the kid from Utah has the type of versatility that they will want to provide backup for Lewis and/or to push White.

The 2nd worrisome strike against Henry... Toss in he's a back from Alabama - strike 3.

Boomer Sooner! - WR Sterling Shepard

Best Scheme Fit: As a permanent fixture in the slot in a quick-hitting passing game. His willingness and ability as a blocker should keep him on the field on early downs, while his ability to move the chains should make him a favorite of the quarterback in short order.

Nice reads on Shepherd and Henry. I do kind of see Shepherd in the Lockett mold, though i would definitely side with Locketts physical abilities more. I know you said Shepherd is a more pollished receiver, but Lockett did things you dont normally see rookies do. I saw him do some improvising as Wilsons bail out option and being very smart about it.

Henry has red flag as a running back without much receiving skill which pretty much everyone knows. His comp, Brabdon Jacobs was a little disappointing. I believe he did have a 13 td year with some other solid seasons, but he never really put it together like people thought he might. I hope Henrys lack of catching was more to do with scheme and lack of use than he just flat out isnt good at it. A risky pick no matter where he goes due to the nature of running backs, but someone is going to fall in love on draft day.

WR Josh Doctson

While he isn't quite the same kind of receiver prospect that has headlined the first round of the NFL Draft over the previous two springs, Doctson is more than worthy of being a first-round pick and, in my opinion, the one that is most likely to give defensive coordinators fits for the next decade.

There is a lot of talk about Houston taking a WR in the first. Honestly I hope they go a different route, but If they do I hope its Doctson.

I think Coleman or Doctson would be a great pick for the Texans.

Last but not least, perhaps the second-best RB in this draft class - RB Kenneth Dixon.

I have Dixon as my 1A and Elliot 1B.

I tend to have a big ten bias towards running backs, so that is the only reason why I don't have Elliot #1. That is a really crappy reasoning, so I'd never talk anyone out of drafting him in the first spot.

But if Elliot is already gone, I'd recommend anyone to grab Dixon. This kid is by far the best RB in the draft to me, and should be anyone else's number 2.

This is the only thread/time I'm gonna say DRAFT THIS KID this year. Just in case I have any league mates checking this place out before my drafts. (After my drafts, I'll gladly be quit vocal about how good he will be).

Every year, I only go all in on a kid or two. But for the few dynasty hard cores that are here. They can attest I have a pretty good track record. Kennith Dixon IS the guy ths year, and at some point. Barring injury of course, you'll have a 10 year starter on your team if you draft him.
