Awesome movie, won many Oscars including best director for Mel and best picture overall. Set the standard for medieval battle scenes to this day. Among the best movies ever made imo. wiffleball 4,789 Posted February 2, 2018 I read a book on the actual Braveheart. The Scottish are obviously pissed off at the movie version. But them. It's done more for Scottish tourism then everything else in history combined. While some of the storylines and characters are just flat-out fiction, some of the methods and tactics where indeed attributable to William Wallace. Two that I remember are the very long bike that they use to defeat the cavalry. The other one was not really addressed as much in the film but was pretty much Common Sense these days. There was a bridge that went over really untenable soil. The convention back in the day was to let the British or whomever get all of their troops across the bridge before attacking. Now imagine that. This could take a couple of days to get an entire Army across one Ricky ass bridge. And the Scottish were expected to just sit there and did a limb cells and wait to be slaughtered. The shots of the king thumping to the room behind the door, his calm demeanor after his son tries to murder him, just brilliance.
