On occasion I drive by the spot where she disappeared- usually when I'm officiating a game over in Woodsville or Wells River VT. They still have a big blue ribbon on the tree where she crashed. It was in the local news this morning that they are using some new technology to search the area for her remains. Honestly, I think someone picked her up and murdered her. That stretch of road goes for miles without cell service even today. It's all National Forest and it runs right into the Kancamagus Highway, which is like Siberia. I hike in that area a lot and its pretty barren. If someone dumped her body out there the only way someone would ever find her is if they confessed and led authorities to the dump site. She left UMASS one night; drove up 91 and into NH; slid off the road in a remote area; talked to a local; seven minutes later she was gone. No trace has ever been found of her. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't let her out of the house without a Great Dane, Pitbull, a few other guard dogs, a gun a taser and a police escort a LoJack up her ass. Some cop on a crime show I was watching coined it best "people make themselves disposable". He was referring to drug addicts but it applies to those who find themselves isolated as well.
