Cards visiting the Cubs.  5-2 game in the 5th.  Day game. Stands are full.  Yeah baseball is dead.

To play devil's advocate.  Weve been locked down for a while with little to do.  Especially in the big Liberal cities.  People are excited to do just about anything right now.

Maybe, but many of the "baseball sucks"," baseball is too slow", "baseball is dead", "baseball is for old men" "I sucked at baseball, so I hate it" crowd doesn't see the big picture.

Baseball is alive and well, it's just consumed differently now.

For example, my son and ALL his friends have The Show video game for Xbox and they play it constantly.  They rarely, sit and watch a game, but they'll play this for hours.  They love inserting the retired players into their lineups, which is interesting to me.

Well you definitely didnt read my post about this sort of stuff.  I pointed out the debut draws great interest, the media blares that “everything is a wild success and haters were all wrong”. Then after that, interest goes right into a tailspin and ends up hitting yet another new low.  Media is silent about the drop in interest. OP is literally doing what i predicted lol.

OK I guess its time for a review:

1.  it looks like that tweet refers to results from just ONE weekend.  Batwoman has had dismal ratings but every once in a while enjoys a one week spike before sinking again.

2. We're still talking about 611k viewers, which is paltry.  It would need to do a lot better to impress.

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2021/05/wnba-ratings-opening-weekend-nine-year-high-abc/

Saturday’s Sky-Mystics WNBA regular season game averaged a 0.39 rating and 611,000 viewers on ABC, marking the league’s largest regular season audience in nine years — since Lynx-Mercury on the opening weekend of the 2012 season, also on ABC (804K). The previous high was 599,000 for a Wings-Mercury game on ABC last summer.

Saturday marked just the second WNBA doubleheader ever on ABC, which has been carrying games since 2003.

WNBA ratings update:

Another "solid" outing for WNBA on ABC

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2021/06/bruins-islanders-ratings-nascar-sonoma-f1-viewership-azerbaijan-wnba-abc/

All four ABC games this season have averaged at least 500,000 viewers.

--------------

So they were trumpting 611k viewers when the WNBA opened. Since then its been dropping like a rock.  Now, they are trying to spin it as "solid" ratings when its down to 500k...

If I'm not being clear, people who deny the collapse of interest in these events are quick to point out any short-term spikes in interest, then go silent as it drops back down to new lows.  Its pure confirmation bias.  Long-term trends show sports is in decline.

The Show had records sales in April.  However, this is attributed to a change in marketing.  For the first time in The Show's existence, they went full multiplatform and put it on just about all available consoles.  That is a proven way to boost sales of any game, not just The Show.

I've been complaining for years that Madden isn't updated on PC and isnt on Nintendo.

Another win for the Cubs in front of a full capacity crowd at Wrigley yesterday.  Tonight will be packed as well.  Book it.

Citizens Bank Park also looks full for an inter-league game against the Yanks.

Guerrero Jr. is in a Home Run race with Acuna Jr.   Vlad also has a shot a a triple crown if he can keep it up.

The Mets & White Sox are both in 1st place.

The Padres tried to beat the Dodgers at their own game by buying a championship.  Meanwhile, the Giants are leading the division.

Texas has a brand new stadium and is dead last, but have still drawn almost 850K people.

Yeah.  Baseball is dead.  Maybe in Pittsburgh or Miami but not anywhere that counts.

Dumbasses.

I read it and don't agree.  For some reason, you seem to think every thing you type on this message board is irrefutable fact.

Huh, so you are saying you cannot refute anything I say?  I mean, you just:

1. stated you do not agree.
2. don't back it up with anything.
3. launch personal attack.

That's the sort of thing someone does when they actually agree with me but are butthurt.  But, why don't you tell me why what I said is wrong.  I mean hell, there's plenty of people out there documenting how sports is in decline.  Tell me how they are all wrong.

Pretty much the only sources out there they say "sports is back!" are corporations or people tied into it with money.  Everyone else seems to see the writing on the wall.

We’ve already gone over this in another thread.

I’ve posted the financials and the youth participation numbers to support my assertions.

You want to dismiss them as irrelevant or misleading.

I’m not going to go round and round about it.  I’m simply calling it as I see it.  What I see is full stands, lots of kids playing baseball, excitement about the season, plenty of interesting stories, lots of kids playing MLB video games and most importantly to me,  lots of kids and adults buying baseball cards from us.

Hey ratings whores.  Just ignoring this one or will you create a new spin?

Surprising. What’s the attendance figures like? I know the Yankees aren’t getting huge crowds.

We'd need to see a comparison of 2021 attendance to 2019 for it to tell us much.  Even then, it's not a fair comparison since all stadiums didn't start the season allowing full capacity.

As a stats nerd and rating wh0re I don't see much concrete evidence of anything there.  Actually one thing, their app is more popular than it was.  How popular was it?  I don't know. :dunno:

And they really shouldn’t be using 2020 as a comparison. But still, some of the stuff is surprising.

I said it last year. I honestly couldn't get into games on TV without fans in stands.  I suspect the ratings will continue to improve, but I doubt they'll will get close to 2019 numbers.
