Ciiiiigar Geeks

Recommended Posts

Im not a cigar guy. The wife just got me a sampler box for shitsandgiggles.

I figure at 51, the odds of me getting cancer is meh.

Any suggestions on introductory options?

Suggestions on good, within $ considerations?

Any other "advice?"

What a sweet thing for her to do. Enjoy.

She's not your typical wife.

Which might explain the quarter of a century of marital bliss.

Few brands to try

Oliva makes good sticks in a range of prices.

Padron is the standard bearer IMO as far as quality.   I have never smoked a padron that doesn't burn very well.  I little more pricy though..And now, impossible to find at my local cigar shops which is really pissing me off.

CAO is another with a range of prices and fairly decent burn quality.

Try to stay away from the domestic equivalent of cubans(montecristo, cohiba etc...) they are always overpriced and not worth the $$.

Arturo Fuente makes a large range of good sticks.  Also burn well.

SINCE you brought it up and all, I just ordered the following boxes:

Arturo Fuente 858

Gran Habano #1

Romeo Y Julieta Exhibition #1(I know I said no Cuban domestics, but these rate well)

Now I gotta deal with the wife complaining about my cigar spend.  Oh well. Such is life.  The next time she buys weed, I'll remember to bring this up.

Thanks for the suggestions@supermike80 & @Meglamaniac

I stopped at Total Wine and picked up a Padron 4000 Natural and a Romeo & Julieta Habana Reserve.

This could get expensive. :D

Went to my local shop and picked up the last two 3000's. $11.99 ea. Is that a good price?

Had a bit of a "tunneling" issue, I think. Had a patch of ash form behind the front end of the wrapper at about the mid way point.

Not sure if that was a me thing. If it happened in the beginning I might chalk it up to improper lighting but this was clearly halfway through smoking it.  Drawing too hard? Faulty humidor? Not rotating while I smoked?  What do you think?

Other than that, very enjoyable.

Well it's official. I am now a cigar guy. Didn't know I'd enjoy them as much as I do. Just ordered a cheap ($200) humidor so I can stock up instead of buying 2 or 3 at a time.

Thanks for the suggestions@supermike80 & @Meglamaniac  Padron, RyJ and RP have made my short list. Looking forward to trying some Arturo Fuente's in the near future.
