Twitter adopts 'poison pill' to prevent Elon Musk takeover

The reason to ask is this: was it censorship when Trump’s White House asked them to take down posts and they did so? Because this whole “exposé” from Taibbi covers a time when Trump was president, and he confirms that happened. That kills the idea that Twitter was unfairly treating Trump, and also since most right-wingers seem ok with this, it kills their argument that any government request for a social media company to take something down amounts to censorship.

Fok the deplorable.  The idiot presents himself as some big "man" and he's getting called out on it.

I'm sure homos use hetero actions as put down in their community.  Horsesass can let us know for sure.

Yes.  Taibbi made this clear.

There are multiple issues at play.  If as it appears both "sides" did it, I would argue that it is wrong.  However, there are two questions I can think of:

1.  Just because it happened in the Trump admin doesn't mean it was for the benefit of Trump or the Right.  Dogcows in particular seems to be conflating to this argument.  But if say (and I know this wasn't in the first Taibbi report) the Hunter laptop was suppressed prior to the 2020 election, that technically happened during the Trump admin, but obviously was not to his benefit.  Which brings us to:

2.  The relative proportion of Left vs. Right censorship.  I keep seeing the Left post #10 from Taibbi; let's look at #11 after the "however":

To say that both sides did it equally is, well, laughable.

Who said both sides did it equally? But some (not you it appears) seem to think it’s not a problem if “it’s not widespread” from one of the sides.

The tweet specifically says twitter received requests from the Trump White House that were honored.  How would that not be “for Trump’s benefit”?

we would have to see what those requests were

it could be something like WH requests to not allow matters of national security, problem is we don't know

what we do know is that the Biden laptop was suppressed by the big guy

Twitter Is Interfering With Elections!!!

I'll ask again, how is this different than Murdoch buying up and concealing stories unfavorable to Trump?  Murdoch's media empire is massive and his action most definitely influenced the election.

The difference is you don't hear democrats crying constantly about elections being stolen.

But post 11 doesn’t actually show any new info. It presented previously-known info and used it to try and induce people to infer something… that since a lot of Twitter employees donate to Democrats, there are supposedly a lot of “contacts” with the moderation team. But those donations don’t prove any “connections” nor do the donations show whether people on the content moderation team made them… it’s employees overall. Moderators were just a small piece of the employee base.

An exposé should be showing new information. In his post 11, he is reaching to try and prove something, despite that data not proving it at all.

In response to your “we don’t know” response to Trump’s takedown requests… WHY didn’t Taibbi show those emails? Instead, he only showed emails from the Biden campaign. A fair assessment would have shown both sets of emails. Also, he has access to all the takedown requests, right? If there really were more from liberals, why not show that? Instead, he relies on political donation information. Which tells me that the numbers aren’t actually as skewed as he wants you to think… or he’d just plain show them.

So I guess we are all going to skip past the fact that the guy in charge of what gets posted said it was wrong to not let the laptop story be published. Pffft. BFD.

Fair questions, but it may be as simple as he doesn't have every email ever sent to Twitter.  Taibbi is fairly centrist; not like the "centrists" here, actually centrist.  He's also an actual journalist.  So I'd be surprised if he is trying to generate a biased piece.

I too would like to see what Trump requests were honored.  I literally can't think of Twitter ever doing anything to benefit Trump, so I'm intrigued.

I would definitely like more info from Taibbi too. Was he given only certain things by Musk? Or told not to expose certain things? He apologized to his readers before he released his tweet storm, so I wonder if he was required to hide some information in exchange for getting the scoop. Let’s see it all, but this time he should properly redact personal email addresses instead of doxxing people. 👍🏼

In an internal email chain.  No government involvement.  And the freaking CEO admitted that 2 years ago.  So thanks for confirming that the #twitterfiles did not have any bombshells.  You’re on a roll.

And I guess Twitter is the only source for what occurred with the censorship? If it wasn’t in the Twitter dump, it doesn’t count. Not even sworn testimony by an FBI agent that they did indeed meet with Twitter and Facebook, and everyone of note at Twitter and Facebook saying they did and were being warned about “disinformation “ about the Biden family.  The shite they would have you believe.  It’s laughable.

And the 51 “former” Intel agents, who still receive security briefings and have top secret clearance saying it was Russian disinformation? Yeah, no government involvement. They’re retired. Gtfo.

This is what they want.  They want to say it's okay to have politicians dictating what news gets censored on the largest media platforms.  I don't know why.  This seems like a no-brainer to say it shouldn't be happening, but I guess that's what people want.

LMFAO.  Yes yes exactly the same.  Russia influenced the election is exactly the same as "the election was stolen!  My FBI meeting with them proves that!  Time to chuck out the constitution and make me king!"  The pathetic whataboutisms of cultist is tiring.

Kind of like Murdoch ACTIVELY buying and suppressing stories about Trump?

I don't hear anyone who crying about that even though we know for 100% sure it happened and he did it for purely political reasons.

FBI meeting with Twitter isn’t a surprise given the information in the twitter files (government reporting tweets that rightfully should be removed).

But as noted by Agent Chan’s testimony, twitter did not always comply with the requests.

What would be a smoking gun, which we don’t have, would be if the government asked Twitter to take down tweets that did not violate the TOS.   Alex Berenson probably the closest, but that was after the election.
