UPDATE: Derek Carr headed to the Saints

What big games, hasn’t Carr played in just one playoff game?

He’s been playing for a horrible organization. Surrounded with more talent, and a stronger supportive organization, I think Carr can be a Qb that can help a team be a playoff team.

But he’s no first ballet HOF.

NY would kind of shock me. That's a lot of pressure for someone who doesn't handle pressure well.

assuming Matt Ryan and Tom Brady both retire, Carr would rank 3rd in the NFL among active QB's in game winning drives.

To me that doesnt feel like a QB who caves under pressure.   just sayin.

You're right, let me rephrase that, he's very sensitive, always has been. Can he handle the NY media if things go south? I'm not sure, we'll see.

The pressure of playing for the Jets would be something Carr would have to deal with, but if think that’s the best landing spot for him.

I am surprised the Saints actually can pay him.

I'm pretty sure they still have cap problems big time.

They just renegotiated Taysom Hills contract and paid him a signing bonus to free up cap space.  And also with another player who's name I can't remember.

last I checked they were over the cap by a significant margin.

you are saying these moves makeup for all that AND his salary.

I feel like I am missing something here.

I have him on my dynasty team!

So much better than Andy Dalton or Jameis Winston!

I was thinking about trading him but now I'll probably keep him

I think he is only making 1.5 million base salary this year, with his signing bonus spread over the 4 years...

I'm not saying these moves make up for all of that and his salary.  I'm with you.  I'm surprised they're able to sign him for this amount.  I don't know how.  Not going to worry about it though.

No.  its not our problem.

all we do is look at the moves and try to figure out which players will be fantasy studs and fantasy duds.

Derek Carr just guaranteed that he will be able to play well into his 70's by signing with the Saints. We all know that Taysom will make sure of it. What other team does the fourth string QB have more plays under center than the healthy #1?

2023 Stats for Taysom......

2,000 yards rushing

2,000 yards passing

2,000 yards passing to himself

4,000 yards rushing and passing to himself

56 TDs rushing and passing to himself

I'm not sure why Rattler is going so late in Dynasty Rookie drafts but Carr should be worried. Rattler will be the starter at some point.

It’s  more  likely he’ll be in the UFL in 3 years. Hopefully those stats count for your dynasty…

That’s why they drafted him, Carr wasn’t impressive last season.

Carr wasn't the problem last year, it was the crappy OLine.  They ranked in the bottom quarter of the NFL in pass blocking and run blocking.  No RB rushed for 4.0 ypc last year and Carr never really had a lot of time to throw the ball.  It's why their first pick was a Tackle and it's why they brought in a tackle and guard in free agency.  I personally don't think they did enough to address the OLine, but that was their biggest problem on offense last year.

Keep in mind also, despite all short comings, they still ranked in the top 10 in points scored last year.

agreed.  though I feel they did perform better as an offense when Kamara returned.   Not sure if it shows on the stat sheet or not, but the offense looked better as the season wore on.

if they resolve even some of the line issues I see every aspect of that offense improving

OBased on ff Carr is avg, and will continue to be an avg Qb.  He wasn’t very impressive the last two season, and not just last season.

I think he needs to be looking over his shoulder.  Every team has oline issues, just that some have a little bit less of an issue than others.

And some qbs are better at over coming those oline issues than others.

Derrick Carrs grow on trees. Barely good enough but never good enough to win anything.

Rattler is a more talented version of Carr. He'll eventually claim the job.

Top 10 in scoring isn't "average".

Carr wasn’t top ten in ff scoring last season.  Carr best ff season was 2020, he wasn’t in the top ten that season.

Not really sure Kamara's "presence" was the issue.  In the 4 games without him (first 3 and last 1), they were 3-1.  If we throw out the first game he came back (Game 4), and split the next 12 in half, the Saints were 3-3 in the first half and 3-3 in the second half.  :dunno:

I think they played pretty well overall last year, they were 9-7 with #9 ranked scoring offense, #8 scoring defense, & 3rd in giveaway/takeaway.  I think their OLine was an issue, but also the lack of weapons.  Outside of Olave, they/Carr, really didn't have someone to count on when dropping back.  I'm not so sure they addressed that issue all that well either.  Though, we'll have to see if Shaheed improves.  He very well may.

Let me know when the NFL cares about fantasy football stats and start including that in the games.

you're probably right.   I just thought the offense looked better with him there.   that does not always translate into numbers.

you also need to look at situation.   most of his time in Oakland he didnt have much in the way of WR to throw to until that final season.   not sure what happened  that final year, but it seems Carr was not ideally suited to the offense they  installed that year.

in NO the line wasnt outstanding so if they fix that alone I suspect this offense will be better.

whether he can take advantage of that remains to be seen, but I do like Carr as a QB.  obviously you avoid if there are bonus points for QB's who run the ball but otherwise hes solid.  I may target him in my 2 QB league this year if I decide not to keep Cousins.
