Constitutional carry gun law passes Florida House

Recommended Posts

“It is also not going to change who can and who cannot carry a gun. People that are prohibited now are still going to be prohibited.”

The bill allows people to carry concealed firearms without going through background screening and training that is currently required to have a concealed carry license.

------

These two lines, back-to-back in the link, seem to contradict each other.  If mentally ill sociopaths with violent criminal records don't need a permit/background check to get a gun, you know the people that are prohibited now in the quote, ... er... what stops them? Isn't Florida removing the mechanisms and roadblocks to acquiring a gun?

Doesn't look that way to me. You still have to pass a BGC to purchase a gun. They're just saying that once purchased, you have the right to keep it with you when you leave your house in case you need to bring it to bear in defense of life or liberty.

They'd rather have their Kids dodge bullets, homeless people, drug addicts and Drag Queens on their way to school. FLORIDA BAD, CALIFORNIA GOOD 👍

For the record, I've never talked sh!t about Florida. I've considered moving there on many occasions. And still might. S.C. is currently in the running as well.

"Florida Man", however. I think we've all had a good laugh at "Florida Man."

I'm sure plenty on the left have and some of them have pulled up stakes and relocated there. Florida should pass a law requiring BGC's for people trying to move there.

I support the right to keep and bear arms so long as that right remains a part of our constitution.  I fear that many who may take advantage of thast right are not responsible enough to have that right.  This will lead to many tragedies.  Yes it will offer protection, needed protection to many, but it will also lead to many tragedies.

Come join us for some easy Southern living.

Seriously considering the Greenville area. Granted, it will be some time down the road. Not looking to leave a great job anytime soon. But you never know what could happen. Any other suggestions?

It's nice up there. I'm originally from Spartanburg but live on the coast now.

Without background screening

That happens at the time of purchase in FL. I agree that every gun owner should have to attend a gun safety course and have so many hours of certified range time before being allowed to carry.

I could be on board with that.  Earlier I gave this a thumbs up but maybe I need to put the brakes on that and add some training time with that.

Gotcha- makes sense.  They just got rid of the doubling up of background screens?  I could see that part, but not the other- we seem to be in agreement on that.

Nobody is more pro 2nd amendment than I am but we don't need untrained soccer moms or someone who's never fired a weapon carrying.

It's a half ass background check if anything. You cannot purchase a firearm if you're a convicted felon, have a warrant, owe child support, have a restraining order, etc.

The pen is mightier than the sword.

Far more people cause greater harm with words than the harm caused by legally owned and used firearms.

Removing that right from the Constitution would have devastating effects on the country and, more importantly, the citizenry.

That may well be.  What was the old song, "You don't know what you've got till its gone"

Only if we can require a civics test before one can vote. I'd rather have a soccer mom carrying a gun than a non-English speaking goon voting.
