Inflation was going down under Biden, now it’s going back up

Good grief. Here’s another article for you. If you see “stock market” please skip over that part so you don’t shet your pants

U.S. inflation rose to 3 percent in January, strengthening the case for the Federal Reserve to extend a pause on interest rate cuts.

The Consumer Price Index jumped more than expected, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed on Wednesday, rising 0.5 percent from December in what was the fastest monthly increase since August 2023. Last month, the annual pace was 2.9 percent.

“Core” C.P.I., which more closely reflects underlying inflation by removing volatile food and energy prices, also showed little improvement. It rose 0.4 percent from December or 3.3 percent on a year-over-year basis, both higher than economists expected. The monthly increase in core prices was the highest since April 2023.

You parrotted tumbling.  Just wanna know if youre coming off that.  Shouldn't be that hard.

This is funny. So, the inflation numbers are  from before Trump took office.  Trump! Gonna blame him for the cocaine in the White House too?

I gave you three specific reasons why I think this is so. If you choose to ignore them, that’s on you. If you want to refute them be my guest.

At what point does Trump own inflation or the economy?

I was told for years that Trump's trillions in spending and covid had nothing to do with Biden's inflation.

Now I'm told that trumpflation is all due to Biden.

Which is it? 🤣

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Gas prices in the Palmetto state saw a double-digit drop in the past week, marking the largest price change in weeks – and it was in the right direction.

South Carolina’s average gas prices dropped by 11.2 cents, averaging at $2.72 per gallon Monday morning, the lowest average so far in 2025, according to GasBuddy’s weekly surveys of over 3,000 gas stations in the state.

I posted an article. I didn’t highlight this one portion of the article you and another poster did for some reason. You seem to be incapable of seeing anything else despite how many times it has been mentioned.

Gas down to 2.74 near me. Not all places, but that’s a low I have not seen in quite a while.

It has been discussed over hundreds of threads. It was correctly the most importantly topic of the election. You are kidding yourself if you think Trump admin is going to take any blame ever or not have moments that people latch onto like the infamous “transitory” line. People now being critical, discussing etc the moves made is normal.

I think there is more to it.

ANd as with most things of late, the press is now admitting as much.....

It's always a bit of both. I know most are not capable of seeing fault in their own side but clearly many presidential policies have lasting impact well beyond that presidents term in office. It's also usually fair to wait more than 3 weeks to declare the current state of various issues to be the direct result of the new potus.

the biden inflation playbook was mostly just letting the Fed raise rates. I don't know what to say about his policies to fight inflation because he didn't have many.

but i also believe some of the inflation he dealt with was caused by Trump during his first term so i'm not just a Trump cheerleader. Then again you can probably also find decisions made by Obama during his terms that were still impacting things like inflation during the Biden admin since many policies don't even show much impact until way after a potus leaves office.

We of course need to be patient.  After Biden entered office and started breaking everything in sight, it still took a few months for the inflation to arise in earnest.

Those who seem to want to use it as some sort of humor platform are as despicable as those who ignored it.....pretended it was true.....or as bad.....

Instead, we need to support the man who is NOT ignoring it or pretending it is not true, but is instead attempting to fix that which Democrats have focked up.  And as I have always maintained, it is bloody hard to unwind inflation.

I cannot read this article what is the gist?

If you think any politician, especially Trump, is not going to spin and dodge blame. Well…

Its an article from Politico.  The gist is that media and Democrats lied incessantly to everyone about the economy.....these are the people folks come here and defend every day....and they do not deserve you all....

"Voters Were Right About the Economy. The Data Was Wrong."

Quote

Before the presidential election, many Democrats were puzzled by the seeming disconnect between “economic reality” as reflected in various government statistics and the public’s perceptions of the economy on the ground. Many in Washington bristled at the public’s failure to register how strong the economy really was. They charged that right-wing echo chambers were conning voters into believing entirely preposterous narratives about America’s decline.

What they rarely considered was whether something else might be responsible for the disconnect — whether, for instance, government statistics were fundamentally flawed. What if the numbers supporting the case for broad-based prosperity were themselves misrepresentations? What if, in fact, darker assessments of the economy were more authentically tethered to reality?

Get ready for a paradigm switch on this from Fox News of the world and the messaging from Republicans 😂

That being said it is going to take much longer than 3 weeks to fix the inflation mess that was inherited from the last administration.

Maybe, I am less interested in the meandering thought of highly biased media.  I point out this is a Politico article because they are traditionally the puppets of their Democrat masters, and here we have them being honest for just a moment.  I could probably find something similar on Fox if I looked, but you and I would likely agree that Fox is heavily biased toward Republicans.

So, here we have an outlet which lied profusely to help Democrats by trumpeting Democrat lies about the economy.......finally telling the truth.

This should bother you.

There is no maybe. Trump takes no blame for anything ever.

Fox News will suddenly become MSNBC on inflation if it becomes and issue and get very pragmatic about its true causes that of course have nothing to do with Republicans.

If is far easier to create inflation than to fix it.

What liberals do not understand, its not about the rate.....its about what the rate has done.   You can lower the rate all you want, that does not eliminate the pain when people are buying.....fixing THAT takes considerable effort.

But it starts with the one thing we have not had for four years, honestly admitting the problem exists.

I do not blame Trump, and nor should I.

I blame the Biden administration, as I have for years....pointing out their deeds were creating a problem.....watching them lie and lie and lie....and the media back up those lies....

Now I at least have someone in Trump who acknowledges what is true, and is committed to dealing with it.....you may dislike him and want to pretend "oh he didnt fix it day one"....that is fine.....have fun with that....maybe go find Biden and ask him and CNN to tell more lies you can believe without restraint...

As was inflation that was a global issue when Biden was prez. Our overall economy fared well coming out of the pandemic. Some good things were done along with some bad moves.

Now with Trump and GOP in charge of everything they get to step up to the whipping post.

Now, you seem intent that Trump has done something wrong, and he very well may have. I am also intent that Biden did something wrong, and I submit that Biden ha actively harmed people.  I think Trump is less bad.

Your suffering must be difficult for you to deal with.

Gas prices will increase as a direct result of Trump's tariffs, executive orders and whatever other actions he takes regarding fossil fuels.

The gas-price increases under Biden were a COVID-related product of supply and demand, which MAGA mooks couldn't wrap their heads around because they're too dumb and poorly educated to understand basic economics.

He was wrong about the dogs, but not about the border nor the criminals....and in case you hadn't noticed, lib media is admitting the economy was a disaster now.  it takes time, but eventually the lies are exposed.

Same for news media like Fox.

Fox is not relevant here.

What is relevant is that a liberal media outlet, Politico, has finally admitted the truth.  They have admitted what conservatives, and yes Fox, tried to tell you for years......they have admitted that you and yours were lied to, saying you were "tricked".

Now, if it were this alone, you would be reasonable to let it slide.....but they have lied about so many things for so long.  When will it be enough for folks such as yourself to say.....enough.....
