Because they think Trump will taco on the tariffs. That’s the whole ballgame. If he sticks with his plan, we will all suffer. If he backs off it won’t be as bad. 
 

But even if he backs off, the combination of what he’s already done with the tariffs, the big beautiful bill, and his disastrous immigration moves are still going to lead to a lot of unnecessary pain, whether or not a recession happens. None of it is good.
