Former President Donald Trump can’t find an insurance company to underwrite his bond to cover the massive judgment against him in the New York attorney general’s civil fraud case, his lawyers told a New York appeals court.

Trump’s attorneys said he has approached 30 underwriters to back the bond, which is due by the end of this month.

“The amount of the judgment, with interest, exceeds $464 million, and very few bonding companies will consider a bond of anything approaching that magnitude,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. (Trump himself was ordered to pay $454 million; the $464 million includes the disgorgement for his adult sons Don Jr. and Eric.)

An insurance broker, Gary Giulietti, who testified for Trump during the civil fraud trial, signed an affidavit stating that securing a bond in the full amount “is a practical impossibility.”

Potential underwriters are seeking cash to back the bond, not properties, according to Trump’s lawyers.

This should make for a some hysterical 'Truth's" for DT

It’s actually worse than that.

It’d be hard for anyone to come up with $454 million cash in a relatively short period of time, even if he is as rich as he claims.

But the issue here is no one will even insure him for it. So even with the opportunity of collecting considerable interest and the possibility that the verdict or judgment amount is overturned, still not one company out there believes Trump can eventually make good on this. :o

I don't think it's a matter of whether he can; it's a matter of whether he would. He has a long history of not paying his bills, which adds to the picture of what a P.O.S. he is.

It's going to be fun to watch the court seize his assets, and hopefully Turd-a-Lago is part of that.

You don't think actual billionaires keep a fair amount of money in stocks?  That's about as liquid as one can get next to cash.

Of course they do.  Trump ain't that rich except what he grifts from his deplorable simps.

I just read this:  If Trump cannot post bond by March 25, New York Attorney General Letitia James will be allowed to begin seizing Trump’s assets.

He shouldn't have done the crime if he couldn't pay the fine.

He bragged in 2016 about using his own money to fund his campaign.

What a focking hypocrite.

Yeah, all that  he did when Turd-a-Lago got raided will be nothing to the   he'll do when Turd-a-Lago gets seized along with all the real-estate crap he's bragged as being the bestest of the best when it was really shite.

How much total has he been ordered to pay with all these lawsuits?

From Forbes:

Quote

March 7, 2024$382,000: Trump was ordered to pay £300,000 in legal fines after losing a lawsuit brought against Steele and his company Orbis Business Intelligence in the U.K. over the controversial dossier alleging Trump conspired with Russia to win the 2016 election.

Feb. 16, 2024$454.2 million: New York Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump and companies he controls to pay nearly a half-billion in penalties and pre-judgment interest for fraudulently misstating the value of assets on financial statements—an amount that will continue to accrue significant interest—part of a broader $465 million judgment that also includes fines for his sons Eric and Donald Trump, Jr., and ex-Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg.

Jan. 26, 2024$83.3 million: A jury ordered Trump to pay damages to writer E. Jean Carroll for defamation, after he attacked her and said she wasn’t “my type” when she accused him of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s; on March 8, Trump posted a $96.1 million bond to cover the judgment plus interest as he appeals just days before a 30-day deadline.

Jan. 12, 2024$392,638: Trump was ordered to pay nearly $400,000 in legal fees to The New York Times after a court tossed his lawsuit taking issue with the newspaper acquiring and publishing his tax records, which the Times said in February Trump has now paid.

May 9, 2023$5 million: A different jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $5 million in a separate trial, which found him liable for sexual assault and defamation—but not rape; he has paid the amount into a court-controlled account while he appeals the verdict.

Jan. 19, 2023$937,989.39: Trump and his attorney Alina Habba were jointly ordered to pay nearly a million dollars in sanctions over the ex-president’s lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and other Democrats, which a judge ruled was “inadequate in nearly every respect” and “unsupported by any legal authority”—Habba has said the fine has been paid, though Trump is appealing the case.

WHAT WE DON’T KNOW

How much more Trump will have to pay in legal fines. The former president still faces other civil cases that could result in penalties, most notably several lawsuits brought by lawmakers and Capitol police officers that are moving together in court seeking to hold Trump liable for the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol building. He also has been indicted four times on criminal charges in state and federal courts, and the charges against him all could result in hefty fines—as well as prison time—if he’s convicted. Trump could have to pay $11.2 million in his criminal cases if he were convicted on every charge against him and sentenced to pay the maximum fine.

SURPRISING FACT

The $382,000 Trump has to pay in the Steele case is significantly less than the interest Trump accrues in the New York civil fraud case even over the course of a week, as the ex-president’s total amount owed in that case goes up by more than $111,000 per day based on a nine percent annual interest rate.

I think my favorite is he has to pay Steele $382,000 for the "fake" dossier.  🤣

I'm glad to see that this is how we treat candidates we don't like.  And by "we" I mean the party that claims to want to save democracy.  The Left must be so proud; it certainly seems so by the posts in this thread.

We don't "save" democracy by electing people who face 91 felony indictments, owe a half billion in legal damages, fabricate information, make everything about himself, buddy up to tyrants, make sexist comments, seek to be our autocratic forever ruler, lie about just about everything and just be an all-around flatulent dooshbag. This is not democracy's savior. He is your cult leader who has sadly brainwashed you into thinking he's anything other than the new Hitler, whom Clownzo admires, by the way.

Whatabout that, skippy.

Focking idiot.

He has been charged with 91 felonies as part of the indictments. So 6.6 percent of them have been dismissed.
