2. I have regularly given money to the ACLU and will continue to do so. I believe in most of their battles. 
3. That said I don’t agree with everything they do. I’m hard pressed to find merit in their argument in this situation. The state doesn’t have any responsibility to pay for gender affirming care for a prison inmate.

The ACLU use to be free speech absolutists and they'd been willing to take the scummiest of clients on both the left and the right. They'd fight for the first amendment rights of anyone, which is why they'd take cases like KKK's right to march through Skokie or the Westboro Baptist Church along with various communists and terrorists and other awful clients. They'd get slack and hate for it, but there was an underlying principle there buffered by consistent reasoning.
