Fact Check: Did Democrats Object to More States For 2016 Than Republicans For 2020?

The Claim - During impeachment proceedings on January 13, Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) claimed that "Democrats objected to more states in 2017 than Republicans did last week but somehow we're wrong."

The Facts - In the 2016 presidential election, Trump won 304 electoral votes to Hillary Clinton's 227. During the joint session on January 6, 2017, seven House Democrats tried to object to electoral votes from multiple states.

According to a C-SPAN recording of the joint session that took place four years ago, the following House Democrats made objections:

Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) objected to Alabama's votes.
Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) objected to Florida's votes.
Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) objected to Georgia's votes.
Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) objected to North Carolina's votes.
Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) objected to the votes from North Carolina in addition to votes from South Carolina and Wisconsin. She also stood up and objected citing "massive voter suppression" after Mississippi's votes were announced.
Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) brought up allegations of Russian interference in the election and malfunctioning voting machines when she objected following the announcement of Michigan's votes.
Maxine Waters (D-Calif) rose and said, "I do not wish to debate. I wish to ask 'Is there one United States senator who will join me in this letter of objection?'" after the announcement of Wyoming's votes.

In total, Republicans made objections to votes from six states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. By the end of the joint session, Biden's 306 electoral votes were certified, just as Trump's votes had been certified in 2017.

The Ruling - True.

Even though Republicans were able to get two objections formally considered in 2021, they objected to votes from only six states.....In 2017, House Democrats objected to votes from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Wisconsin. Objections also were made after the announcement of votes from Mississippi, Michigan and Wyoming, adding up to nine states....

Clinton Won't Rule Out Questioning 2016 Election, But Says No Clear Means To Do So

"Did it make it especially hard knowing that the person you lost to, who is now our president, is somebody you've described as "a con man with no experience to be president and not the right temperament to be president"?"

It did make it a lot more painful. I have said, "Look, if I lost to another Republican I would be disappointed. I would not agree with a lot of their approach toward economics and other important issues, but I wouldn't fear for my country." I believe that Donald Trump poses a clear and present danger to our democracy, to our institutions, to the rule of law, to the civil rights and human rights of so many Americans....

I want to talk with you about Russia.

Hmm. Please. [Laughs] There was never an election like this one with Russian interference. And we continue to find out more, just about every day about what the Russians did. It was recently reported that in addition to the hacking of the DNC and John Podesta's email in addition to creating and pushing out fake news, Russia created fake affinity groups on Facebook, which tried to organize anti-immigration rallies, anti-Muslim rallies. What questions to do you have about what we don't know about what the Russians did? I think you're right that we've learned a lot. We've learned a lot since I closed out my manuscript at the end of June. And in my chapter on Russia I try to explain what we knew before the election and how we tried to sound the alarm. I had the leaders of my campaign going to the press and saying, "Look, Watergate was a physical break-in. This was a cyberattack, to steal information, to weaponize it." So we knew before the election that the Russians were playing hard and we knew from what we heard —

In the last month of the campaign, Trump mentioned WikiLeaks 160 times. Why? Because they were making up stuff 24/7. You told Susan Page at USA Today that you believe that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. What leads you to believe that?

I was careful with that. I said we know they communicated. We know they tried to hide all of the communications — both phone calls and meetings. We know that they took advantage of very well-timed Russian activities. We know that they had a very clear line of communication that was set up, that, in fact, after the election, the Trump people wanted to continue — and not in the sight of our intelligence providers. We know that the intelligence community of our country — people who I've worked with, people who I have every bit of confidence in — have concluded that this came from the top of the Kremlin and was intended to help Trump.

You've basically said that you thought the Comey comments about the email investigation is what tipped the election.

Yeah.

And ultimately caused you to lose. But you've also said the Russian bots and Facebook pages and affinity groups and the hacking all contributed to your loss.

Yes. I believe that.

Democrats have said that they think there was Russian interference in the election, but that they're not challenging the results of the election. As more and more information comes out about the depth of Russia's interference in the election, do you think, at some point, that it would be legitimate to challenge the legitimacy of the election?

....In fact, I think part of the reason Trump behaves the way he behaves is that he is a walking example of projection. Whatever he's doing and whatever he thinks is happening he will accuse somebody else of. And there are examples during the campaign when he did just that, like when he called publicly on Russia to hack my personal emails.

I want to get back to the question, would you completely rule out questioning the legitimacy of this election if we learn that the Russian interference in the election is even deeper than we know now?

No. I would not. I would say —

You're not going to rule it out.

No, I wouldn't rule it out....Now, I do believe we should abolish the Electoral College, because I was sitting listening to a report on the French election and the French political analyst said, "You know in our country the person with the most votes wins, unlike in yours." And I think that's an anachronism. I've said that since 2000....I think the American people deserve to know there was an FBI investigation [into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia] that had started in early 2016 — Americans never knew that. .....So yes, I do think sexism and misogyny played a role, and it's not just about me — I make that clear. I think voter suppression played a much bigger role than people are acknowledging. That is not going away. I think Comey cost me the election, but it was aided and abetted by Russia, WikiLeaks and all the other things we've now found out about Russia.....

Hillary Clinton suggests election 'stolen' from her, other Dems could suffer same fate

.....Taking the stage with her husband Bill in Los Angeles Saturday night as part of the couple’s “Evening with the Clintons” tour, the former Democratic presidential nominee told the crowd she has been warning potential candidates they could suffer the same fate.....“I think it’s also critical to understand that, as I’ve been telling candidates who have come to see me, you can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you,” the former secretary of state said.....The former first lady also questioned how Trump could still hold conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the release of the information in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report....

.....Mueller’s report “not only decisively proves, but goes chapter and verse about how the Russians — in the words of the report — conducted ‘a sweeping and systemic interference in our election,’ ” she said, according to the Seattle Times. “And then you wake up and your president is spending an hour on the phone with Vladimir Putin, who was the mastermind of the interference and attack on our election......”

.....Tickets for the Clintons' speaking tour have gone for as little as $20 on the secondary market, The New York Post reported....Official prices for the Seattle event ranged between $66.50 and $519, according to the Seattle Times....

The difference is the night of the election, Hillary Clinton officially conceded, and called Donald Trump and congratulated him. She didn’t attempt to violate the Constitution.

It’s really an absurd comparison. And Blue Horseshoe, despite his long-winded posts, really is a moron for making it.

Actually, she did not concede initially and didn't even step into the room to speak to her supporters.   She sent the pedophile Podesta out on stage instead to tell those gathered that were certain that it was her turn to be be President to stand by, and keep counting more votes instead.

Georgia's early voting turnout so far is Blacker, older than recent general elections

.....After one full week of in-person early voting in Georgia, nearly 838,000 people have already cast their ballots in an election that is expected to shatter midterm records.....According to an analysis of absentee data from the secretary of state's office, turnout is nearly 60% higher than the same point in time in the 2018 general election, thanks in part to record voter interest and the increasing shift in voters utilizing the state's three-week early voting period.....Looking at the demographics of Georgia's voters so far, the electorate is older and Blacker than this time in previous elections, as tightly contested races for U.S. Senate, governor and other statewide offices is driving voter enthusiasm.....

Stacey Abrams Struggles With Black Male Voters in Georgia While Wielding National Clout

....With the November election just weeks away, Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams is dealing with an unusual political problem. She has become a star on the national political stage. But in her own state -- where she has proved in recent presidential and Senate contests that she can get out the vote for Democratic candidates -- she is struggling to gain momentum for her rematch with Republican Governor Brian Kemp. One problem is tepid enthusiasm among a key segment of the Democratic base: Black men.

.....One-third of Black men registered in Georgia haven’t voted in the past several elections, with pollsters saying these disaffected voters just don’t think the outcome will improve their lives. In recent years, Black men also have shown they’re more willing to vote Republican, in Georgia and nationally. About 1 in 5 Black men voted for Donald Trump in 2020, up from 2016....Together, these two groups -- Black men who typically don’t vote and those who have crossed party lines -- could determine the outcome in November. The key is figuring out the reasons for their choices and persuading them to change their minds....

....In 2018, when Kemp defeated Abrams by 55,000 votes, exit polls found that 97% of Black women had voted for Abrams, compared with 88% of Black men. That 9-point gender gap represented 120,000 votes....“Had Black men voted for Abrams at a rate close to Black women, Abrams would already be governor,” Woodbury said.....In a series of appearances that her campaign has dubbed “Stacey and the Fellas,” Abrams is meeting at restaurants and taverns, where Black men are invited to hear her discuss issues of particular concern -- economic opportunities, fair access to capital, incarceration rates -- to answer questions from local urban radio hosts, and to pose their own questions to the candidate.....

Well, in 2015, Time magazine ran an article featuring Podesta as Hillary's campaign manager which opened with:

On the wall in his office at Hillary Clinton’s Brooklyn headquarters, campaign chairman John Podesta has an oil painting on loan from his lobbyist brother, who is an avid art collector. The image shows two men hunched over a dining room table, bearing knives and forks. On the table lays a man in a suit, who looks vaguely like Podesta.

That same year, a Politico reporter was granted access to Podesta's campaign office in NY and published a photo of the cannibalism painting on his wall in his office down the hall from Hillary's office.

Are Time and Politico Q-Anon conspiracy rags?

read the quote that Podesta gave related to the painting, then view the other "art" that he and his brother have acquired over the years to hang in their homes.   Then you'll need to wash your eyes out with acid.

I disagree.  I think it was wrong when all of them did it, I will not find some way to allow Trump while holding Hillary and Abrams accountable. Wrong is wrong, and we have to stop allowing it for those with whom we might agree.

Archie calls on Hinds Co. Democratic chair to step down, alleging fraud in party primary

.... A Hinds County supervisor claims the county’s top Democratic Party official kept him from winning re-election, and now he’s calling on her to resign. On Thursday, District 2 Supervisor David Archie called on Democratic Executive Committee Chair Jacqueline Amos to step down, saying he has evidence that she tampered with the results in the Democratic Primary to ensure his opponent, Anthony Smith, would win. He says he’s sending letters to the state and national Democratic Parties demanding she and her secretary step down. He’s also challenging the election outcome with the county’s executive committee....Archie held a press conference at the Hinds County Election Commission headquarters Thursday afternoon. The briefing comes weeks after Archie was defeated by Smith by nearly 1,900 votes in the Democratic primary.....

.....“We have videotape of Jacquie Amos going into boxes, bringing in thumb drives, bringing in ballots to be inserted into machines,” he said. “We have pictures of Jacquie Amos participating in what we think is fraud, as well as corruption.”....Archie was joined by several supporters, including District 2 resident Taylor Pedigo, who also questioned whether the results were accurate.....“I was watching the election numbers come in and immediately I knew that something funny was going on, that this man that I had never heard of, that I had never seen a yard sign of... came out the gate with a huge lead,” she said. “This leads me to believe that this needs further investigation......”

....Among safeguards, the machines require a paper ballot, which is scanned as they are turned in. The machines also include a machine tape, which provides a count of all paper ballots cast, as well as media sticks, which record the total votes cast for each candidate in each race on the ballot. “I stand before you to tell you 26 out of 26 precincts did not include the tapes,” she said. “We don’t know how many votes took place because all we have are the paper ballots.” Meanwhile, Walker told reporters that the machine’s media sticks should have been kept under lock and key at the Hinds County Circuit Clerk’s Office, but instead had been sent back to the election commission’s headquarters.....

Clinton warns Putin will try to meddle in 2024 election

.....Hillary Clinton warned Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will try to interfere with the upcoming 2024 election.  “I fear that the Russians have proved themselves to be quite adept at interfering, and if he has a chance, he’ll do it again,” the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee said on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.” Clinton said the U.S. does not talk about Russian interference in the nation’s elections enough, claiming Putin has “a lot of apologists and enablers in our own country.” She said some Americans do not see the “danger” of Putin, while cautioning some even agree with him on certain issues, such as the invasion of Ukraine. Clinton warned that fascism and authoritarianism may be growing in the U.S. and urged voters to “reject” that kind of thinking.

“And part of the challenge is to continue to explain to the American public that you know, the kind of leader Putin is, this authoritarian dictator who literally kills his opposition, kills journalists, poisons people who disagree with him, invades other country, interferes with our election,” she said. “That is part of the alternative we have to reject in this election,” she continued. “We have to reject authoritarianism. We have to reject a kind of creeping fascism almost, of people who are really ready to turn over their thinking, their votes to wannabe dictators, and we can’t allow that to proceed.”
