How long till an NFL ref is attacked by a player for a terrible call

Recommended Posts

I have seen some absolutely terrible calls that are all subjective. A lot of them are clearly not correct and yet the officials  do not even care they are making the wrong calls. On things that are very clearly wrong during replay they maintain the call is correct on the field like 90 percent of the time.  I watched a linemen for the vikes get HIS helmet torn off while rushing the passer only to have hands to the face called........ON HIM.  At no point could this have happened and yet the ref just said fock it. How long till one of these mountains of men take their rage out on one of the refs who are focking with their money. When you take away stats from players that effects their ability to earn. Sooner or later one of these fringe players are going to lose their and waffle stomp a ref.

I can't think of anything worse a player could do to jeopardize his earning potential than attacking a ref. I'm sure that's in the back of every players' minds.

There have been terrible calls for decades and no incidents. Not sure why it would change now….

They care. NFL refs are graded after every game.

The only time I remember a player attacking a ref was Orlando Brown - Cleveland Browns about 20+ years ago. Ref threw the flag for a false start which hit Brown in the eye, so he shoved the ref to the ground before his teammates held him. He was fined and indefinitely suspended.. but that was all lifted after Brown spent the next week in a hospital trying to save his eye. Ended up getting cut (losing big-millions), missed the next three years, and career petered out. Wife divorced him, arrested a few times, found dead at 40 from diabetec issues.

The penalty wasn't even on him.

As bad as it seems sometimes, NFL refs are exponentially better than the jokers umpiring MLB games. Some of these clowns have been horrible for decades and yet appear to suffer no blowback from the Commish. At least the NFL "penalizes" poor referees by not letting him into the big playoff games or Super Bowl. Don't they also score the entire crew, of which the chief ref is responsible for?

Agreed. Some don't even seem like missed calls, just pure spite between the ump and batter.

MLB can't employ ball-strike calling bots fast enough for my taste.

That is one sad story.

The zebras are out of control this year, more than usual. Far too many ticky tack calls, fabricated roughing the passer nonsense and horrible illegal contact calls against the defense which always happen on like 3rd and 27.  It’s stupid. I don’t know why Roger hasn’t issued a directive to back off.  Every game should have the NFL refs in "NHL or NBA playoff mode".  Let them play.  Only call textbook, egregious penalties that really affect the play.  That’s the solution.

I have seen some calls  this year that defy logic. Been a football fan for 40 years. This is the worst time ever for the refs.  When they go the replay you can clearly see it was a bad call and yet the refs will not admit they were wrong.  A personal foul on the defense when will levis slid into them. A personal foul on a qb hit where the defense pulled up at the last second and flew OVER the qb. with his FOOT baaaaaarly touching the QB as he went over the top of him. No way it was a penalty but the announcers were like yep...he touched his leg. They should just do away with defense all together and just let the offense run a scrimmage vs ghost defenders.

I wouldn't mind seeing a ref beat the crap out of one of my underperforming players at some point.
