Drying up the money for illegals is probably the only real way to stop the flow.  Obviously the regins need to be significantly tightened in regards to Federal aid.  To that though, why hasn't Abbott passed a law fining businesses in TX if they hire illegals?  DeSantis did it in FL. To me, Republicans have always  talked out both sides of their mouth about Illegals.... " we SAY we don't want them here....but our big donors want them to work here...so we make a big deal about it but ignore it".   If Abbot were dead serious about it....he'd tell those businesses in TX that he's shutting off their spigot to cheaper labor.

We can reasonably assert that the enthusiastic opposition to walls on the part of the left is indicative of their effectiveness as well.

Trump had to fight and fight and fight to protect the border, and he actually did more than I thought would be possible. I am sure it infuriated the left to see that border stemming the tide of people coming in.

In any event, as I’ve pointed out many many times, it’s a terrible assumption that migrants to this country, whether documented or undocumented, are going to be Democratic Party aligned voters. It’s been proven wrong again and again.

I haven’t seen any recent polling on this but my feeling, based largely on anecdotal conversations, is that the conservative view on this issue (basically- we need to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to stop illegal immigration from our southern border) is the majority opinion now. Liberals are in the minority on this one. And it’s regarded as an important enough issue that it could tilt the Presidential election in Trump’s favor. Ultimately I don’t think it will, but it could. It’s definitely the biggest single threat to Biden winning again, even more so than inflation.

Bush passed the major legislation, but, Obama started it and built the vast majority we have now.  It didn't become a democrat boogeyman until Trump.  Trump did finish a good portion of the 5 billion he promised though in just 4 years, which is an amazing feat for how slow government contracts work.  But it doesn't do any good when the gates are welded open.

Are you aware that the majority of undocumented immigrants don’t come across our southern border at all? They come here legally and simply overstay their visas. (incidentally this is also how the vast majority of fentanyl gets here too.)

Tthe conversation was about the texas razor wire, not overstaying visas.  Regardless, to address your question I don't think the numbers are knowable since those who cross our border without detection or apprehension truly do not have their numbers known.

I agree that the assumption they will automatically be voting Democrat is flawed, but modern liberalism is racism.....and due to their pigmentation Democrats make that assumption.

These people are not ONLY coming from south and central america, they are from all over the world now....and some of those cultures do not share our values at all, at least those from the Americas have something near to it

And it’s not really changing the conversation. It’s pointing out, if you regard undocumented immigrants as a problem (I don’t but most people do) then you’re not really addressing it by setting up razor wire in Texas.
