20 years ago this May, my only brother passed away.  I remember coming here to share the news, and how many of you were there for support and encouragement really made me think of this place different than just an online message board with internet personalities.

I was the older brother but we were less than 3 years apart and grew up really, really close.  Everyday we were playing outside or doing stuff together, playing with the neighbor kids.  And as we got older we were hanging out with mutual friends and always had similar interests around sports and music.

I also have a step-brother and a step-sister I'm really close to and definitely consider them my brother and sister, although they've never lived in the same town and I only see them on occasion when I'm traveling or when they come back to visit.  Both of them are Broncos fans

My dad was also married a couple times before he passed, and both of those marriages came with step-siblings, but I never got real close to any of them.  Well, maybe one, but that was before she became my step-sister :ninja:

Next you're going to start asking us what street we lived on as a child or our mother's maiden name.

I grew up and was an only child. I’d didn’t find out I was adopted till my late teens. Was adopted in Texas so it would have taken an act of God to unseal those records. Spit in test tube and before I know i, I have a bother and sister on my birth fathers side and a brother and sister on my birth mothers side. Fifty years knowing ZERO about where I came from. They didn’t know anything about me other than vague stories they might have a sibling of unknown gender.I took it slow but eventually got to know all by phone and text. The sisters are really receptive. I speak with one every Saturday night, the other during holidays. I met my brother in person here as he was in town for the Bears game this year with his friends.  Very incredible experience and somewhat of an emotional day for both.Brought him and one of his friends to lunch Monday before their flight left out four hours later, and we went to my house so they could just recharge the batteries after a fun weekend in the Quarter. My other brother is a recluse living in the desert. I’ve spoken with him a few times, but not much.

1 older sister, 1 younger 1/2 brother on my dad’s side (2nd marriage) and 1 step-brother same age, also on my dad’s side (3rd marriage). I’ve only met the 1/2 brother once, he seemed ok, but we never kept in touch. Step brother is a real dork and a pain in the ass. Sister’s husband is a d!ck, so I don’t talk her her very often these days.

Oldest sibling is my brother. He still stays in the town I grew up in. Gym teacher & football coach here in SC. Retired here, went to work in NC, retired there, now came back to SC to work & coach again

Oldest sister owns restaurant chain down here

Finally, next sister is still older (12 years & closest to me in age) and is the one who’s a widow. She just looks after my niece (nephew is at USC in college now). Once niece goes to college, sis is gonna sell the house she has here & travel. She’s got a condo right across Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia & one down in Pawleys Island so she said she will be back & forth between those but she LOVES the one in Columbia

You don't know the half of it.  He insisted we watch citizen cane.

I bet he could lose a BBQ contest to grilled lettuce.

No actually I was planned. My dad had my brother & eldest sister with his previous wife. My mom had my sister with her previous guy. Then when my parents married they had me 👼

People say it's the greatest film ever recorded. I've tried to watch it three times and fell asleep all three times without feeling entertained.

I'm on a steering committee for a local leadership development program.   Before we learn what organizations people are associated with or titles, we ask people to share things like where you were born, how many siblings you have and give people a chance to really get to know each other more than just by what they do for a living.   That's kind of where this thought process went.   This place obviously needs more efforts to learn commonalities rather than just focus on political differences all the time.   How often do you guess really talk politics in your daily conversations with people? If that is your conversational focus, do you actually have friends? :dunno:

A younger brother. Good guy. Much more of a mama’s boy. Bright (book smart). Doesn’t catch subtle nuances to jokes etc sometimes.  a bit selfish (similar to my father). As we are aging , we are getting along better.
