weepaws 3,191 Posted March 7, 2024 Nothing more gross than a public swimming pool. We still have a drive inn, it’s only closed in November and December.
Tree of Knowledge 1,855 Posted March 7, 2024 Does the skating rink have a sweet arcade? If not, it’s out.
thegeneral 3,209 Posted March 7, 2024 Skating rink by a mile. Then drive in. Pool was a summer standard and going to King’s Island was like the highlight of the summer for a young thegeneral.

It had a high dive and a slide so high and fast that you could almost get from one end of the pool to the other. It also had tether ball, ping pong, beach volleyball, shuffleboard, tennis and all kinds of things. Great concession stand, and there were barbecue pits in the picnic areas. Adult swim was 10 minutes before the hour, but we'd hunker down near the stairs in the shallow end and try to swim underwater the width of the pool without the life guard catching us. If he/she did, you get sentenced to 10 minutes on the red penalty bench. We'd go down there almost every day in the summer. Years later, we'd sneak in there at night with girlfriends for skinny dipping and pleasurable activities. Sometimes a neighbor would hear us, climb up on the fence and try to spot us with a flashlight. We'd hang by our fingers on an edge and only have our breathing mouths exposed. Sometimes the cops got called, and we'd just do the same thing. They didn't have keys to get in, so all we had to do was hide. Then there was Astroworld, which is a shame they let get run down over the years as it turned into Thugville. I never liked skating rinks, roller or ice. We didn't have any drive-ins nearby, so I can't speak for that.
Strike 5,539 Posted March 7, 2024 Public swimming pool. Had a private one in my back yard. Only had to deal with friend/sibling pee.

There were a handful of kids the same ages and we would spend all summer riding bikes, playing basketball, focking around, sneaking booze from liquor cabinets as we got older, playing cards, a made up games of baseball you could play with a few people, tennis, etc. Was the best. Pools were the main spot as it was hot as hell. No cable til maybe high school and only got maybe 4 channels so you did other stuff. A great time to be a kid. BeenHereBefore 1,519 Posted March 7, 2024 Agree about the pools and me and my friends always had a season pass and would be there almost everyday unless it rained. After would catch salamanders is the creek behind it and then hunt for snakes in the woods on the walk home.

Gepetto 1,368 Posted March 7, 2024 Swimming pool is not needed; I grew up at a lake. Drive In Theatre did close when I was a kid, so I guess it's not needed either. Saw Airplane there before it closed. My grandma worked the concession stand at a skating rink so I played video games (Frogger, Centipede, Ms. Pac Man) and skee ball and drank and ate for free, so keep that, not into the skating itself but that's OK, others are. Amusement Park - Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun in KC are pretty fun, although I have no interest anymore to be around people in public.

My soon to be girlfriend had a pool with a slide. Her dad would tell us that he pays a hundred dollars a year for a chemical that turn your piss red and follow you. And if he caught you, he would ban you for a week. What’s the first thing we all did when he left, see if it was true.
peenie 1,915 Posted March 7, 2024 My apartment complex had a wonderful pool. It was a lot of fun. I still go to the skating rink. Amusement parks are fun but I haven’t been in many years. I’m still hoping I can one day go to Disney World. I guess it’s the Drive-in. Two different guys chose the skating rink as a first date. Now I know it’s a red flag.
