Stroud - Bust Articles

Recommended Posts

I’ve read several articles where Stroud is being called a potential bust, mainly bc of his lack of rushing upside. I could see if he was going off the board with Hurts, Mahomes and Allen, but he’s generally going around the 6-7th QB off the board.  I mean, he COULD be a bust (anyone could be), but after the rookie year he had + having arguably the best WR corp in the NFL + adding a good pass catching back in Mixon, how could anyone not think he’s worthy of the 6th QB off the board?  I guess if you’re expecting him to finish top 3, then maybe, but is anyone EXPECTING that?

He’s not going on the double digit rounds, so I think people are expected a lot from him.  I think a bust would be in the eyes of the beholder imo.

I’ve come around a little on Stroud. Without rushing upside he doesn’t have a path to QB1 so his ADP seemed a bit rich given that other pocket passers like Burrow, Dak, Tua etc. are all going several rounds later. But he may have a path to somethjng like 35 TDs and 4,500+ passing yards.

I still think Kyler or Love are better values but I’d be fine with Stroud as a QB in the round 5-6 range.

I think with the QB position, if you draft him as the QB 6 and he ends up the QB 6 you’re almost disappointed. It all depends on the leagues you’re in and how long they wait and how they draft qbs, but generally early and mid round qbs need to crush their adp to out perform the sit, wait and stream qbs . There will be a couple that do it.

Stroud is a qb that is more valuable in 6 pt passing leagues and without the rushing you do need that qbs to be around passing 35-40 tds to be a top end qb. If you think that happens then draft him, otherwise wait I think.

I can definitely see a path to implosion, and that path is Diggs.  There are a lot of mouths to feed and that’s what Stroud did so well last year.  We’ve seen Diggs become an issue if he isn’t getting his week in and week out.  This creates the potential for a). Forcing the ball to shut him up b).  Tension that causes lost focus c). All of the above.

He's a viable QB1, and as good a pocket passer QB as any other than Mahomes.

If he has a career year type season, he could finish as the top QB or a top 3. On the flipside, on a down year, he could finish in the 10-15 range.

Most seasons, he's probably finishing between about 5-10

Stroud is more a traditional drop back passer, but hes got it going on in terms of throwing the ball.

he had draftable numbers last year as a rookie.   this year he has more talent than he had last season and hes got another year of experience.

as long as hes not one of the first 4 or 5 QB off the board he should provide good value for you at the draft table.   He is one QB you dont really need rush yards from to have a good year.   Think Kirk Cousins, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning..... all drop back QB's who have been fantasy darlings in the past despite their lack of rushing yards.

the rush yards will keep a QB afloat if their passing is not up to speed, but they need to get the passing part of their game up to speed within 2 (or in some cases 3) years or risk losing the job as a starter.

the ability to run will help them while they learn the game, but in the end its the passing ability that allows the QB to stay in the league in the long run.

Bust?

There is talk of him spawining three 1,000 yard WRs in that offense and challenging Peyton's record this season

Have him in two leagues. Took Murray in one as a back up and Daniels in the other: Two mobile QBs with upside.

Best of both worlds

Please do me a favor, if you do draft Stroud as a qb2,  and you play in a money league, can you send me an invite for next season.
