Chuba Hubbard Gets New Deal

Recommended Posts

Somewhat curious since they have rookie running back and are already paying Miles Sanders.

Sources: The #Panthers have locked in one of their young stars, agreeing to terms with RB Chuba Hubbard on 4-year, $33.2M contract extension.

He gets a max value of $37.2M with $15M in new fully guaranteed money.

LOL, what a stupid organization.

Instead of re-signing him in the off-season, they draft his replacement... then, give him even more money than they would have, had they taken care of this in the off-season.  To top it off, they've now wasted a high draft pick.

Yup & yup.  Even Chuba has to be like "these people are stupid....where do I sign?"

As a Washington fan I had to endure almost 25 years of Dan Snyder…if there’s one organization who is run worse than what we had in the Snyder era , it’s Carolina.

yep, thats the Panthers.

now watch.... they have given him the money.  How much you wanna bet that Brooks takes the starting job next year, and then Carolina will have to eat some salary to get a team to trade for Chubba.   That would be incredibly funny. (but sad at the same time)

He doesn't even have to take the job.  Even if Hubbard continues on this pace... they either wasted the pick on Brooks or spent more money on Hubbard than they should have.  If they'd have offered Hubbard a 3 year / $15M extension in the offseason, he probably takes it and they're only on the hook for $5M a year instead of $8M AND using a 2nd round pick on a guy who plays the same position.  Probably would've been better used on a guy who can help this year.

Not like they have a bunch of other players they are paying top dollar.

in their defense, Chubba did not look like a guy they should be extending last summer.   I thought he was a bum.

then he wakes up this year and decides to perform in a contract year.   I never suspected he had it in him.   up til this year I thought all he had going for him was the cool name

Yeah, I believe you're right.  I didn't realize how "meh" he was last night.

He's playing well this season for sure. An unexpected spark on an otherwise dreadful team.

However, it's not like he's the 2nd coming of Marshall Faulk...

I don't know that he's worth a big contract like this but he got it, good for him

I've been holding Jonathon Brooks on my IR all season thinking Chuba wouldn't do much and Brooks would take over mid season.  Not only did Brooks take his sweet time getting back, but Chuba has been putting together a pro bowl season in a contract year so now Brooks redraft value is pretty low.

or the team has not rushed him because Chubba was playing well.

So what will the split be when brooks returns? He’s been practicing in full since last week so he should be more than ready to go….especially if they hold him till after their bye.

They just paid Hub, and Brooks is just now returning, I say next two games Brooks will be eased into the work load, then is talent takes over, and he has at least a 70% share of the work load.

He probably doesn't need to fight for a job of course, but if I was a rookie and I had aspirations of being more than a jag, they'd have to physically keep me off the field.

I'm sure his agent calmed him too.

going out before you are ready can have dire consequences.   buddy of mine who played hockey looked like he had an NHL career in front of him.   Came back early from an ACL injury and needed another surgery.     Then stupidly did it again.

he now walks with a cane.

its ok to want to come back, but coming back early is stupid if there is risk to re injure.    Thats one where you gotta protect the player from himself.    Its in nobodys best interest if he wrecks his knee a second time.

I think that’s why he hasn’t return until now.

hes still less than a year from the Surgery.

I think even when he does come back they will take it easy on him.    a few carries, some mop up duty and if he shows well, maybe a start in the last week of the season if they think hes up for it.

He wont have any chance to unseat Chubba this year.    but Next year he might.

though if the team is committed to Chubba, maybe they trade him to a RB needy team if he shows well.

From what I’ve seen, his injury took place last November, so that would be a year, he’s young, that’s always a bonus when returning from an injury, I do agree, they will take it easy the first couple of games, but I think they will release him from the leash after those couple of games.

for sure.  smart move is to see what you have in him as a player before deciding to trade anyone.

for some reason I thought he got hurt later in the year.  I didnt realize he was at the 12 month mark already.   That being the case, they are certainly not rushing him to return, but then again,  with Chubba playing well, there is no need.
