Engorgeous George 2,297 Posted February 1 Myself, I am not a believer in Tariffs, generally speaking. I do believe in reciprocal tariffs against countries which tariff or restrict our imports. I also believe I might violate my general rule when it comes to China since they violate international law and regularly steal intellectual property and so compete unfairly. What I would not do right now is tariff our friends to the north. Its winter. We need gasoline and heating oil. We also need lumber, and in abundance to rebuild after the huricanes. It seems a bad time to cause even temporary shortages there.
nobody 2,656 Posted February 1 I always thought they tariffed Canada and Mexico because they know companies will run Chinese goods through shell companies in those countries. Import it from China to Canada. Slap some new packing and paperwork on it and ship it the US. 1

Remember it was just "transitory"?? 3 years of 20 to 30% increase in prices on everyday goods and services. real time cost & real time hardship for lots of people. Going to take awhile to clean up the mess of the last 4 years. Maybe if we would have had a President who was all there, but you & the media claimed he was on top of his game. 4 years of ineptitude letting in unvetted 12 million immigrants & for a year not requiring them to get vaxxed. complain all you want, because of sides and all. it's what you do, I'm just pointing out the last 4 years were one pile of steaming crap & might take awhile to sort things out. The only question is will these tariffs be good for us or not? Forget about whether you think Trump is a good or bad President in other areas and focus on this decision.

President Donald Trump’s threat to impose across-the-board tariffs on any imports appears to be working. Volkswagen Group’s premium brands Audi and Porsche are considering shifting some production to the United States for the first time in their history, according to a report by German daily Handelsblatt, citing several sources familiar with the matter. You and others keep assuming that he’s doing this to achieve some negotiating goal. Honestly I had hoped that was the case. But according to the reporting, Canada and Mexico sent trade negotiators to Washington a few weeks ago and asked the White House what if anything they could do to avoid this: they were willing to make huge concessions. They were told there was nothing they could do because Trump had his heart set in imposing these tariffs. This is what he wants.

But I strongly doubt this is what the people wanted. I know he talked about it, and that Democrats warned of the consequences, but voters were not paying attention to this issue. They elected Trump to bring prices down and to control the border better. This is going to raise prices.

Because he honestly believes that tariffs are good and will achieve a positive result. He thinks the other countries will pay the fees and won’t pass them on to American consumers. He’s totally wrong about this. It’s YOU and others who either don’t understand or won’t admit that you do. Thats why you guys keep implying there’s some secret plan here.
