Nagy gets hired by someone like the Saints and he's probably back in KC as OC

How does Daboll still have a job?

Because he’s still employed by the Gmen.  HTH.

The real question is how does their GM still have a job.  The issue with the Giants is mostly personnel (particularly O-line and QB) rather than coaching.  In 2022, when Daboll coaxed more out of the team than could be expected, it apparently fooled the GM into committing to Jones long term and thinking things were okay.  I suppose Daboll bears some responsibility, if he was not lobbying to move on, but ultimately that should be the GM's decision/job.

In most cases, the coaching churn because of a bad season record or two is not worth it.  There are some cases where a coach is clearly out of his depth (Hackett with the 2022 Broncos and Mayo with the Patriots this year) and a one-and-done is justified, but other than that I think most teams would be wise to give a coach 4-5 seasons before pulling the plug.

A ton of responsibility. They got worse every year with Daboll as head coach and he refused to change his approach.

I think he's a horrible coach.

Nagy is a typical Saints move.  Retread that is clearly not suited to be a head coach.

Problem with the Saints is why would a good coach want that job when they are in cap hell.

I think a lot of coaches get a bad rap.   Lots of times the coach takes the hit, but the real blame needs to be pointed at the GM.   I am not suggesting Nagy is one of those,  though he did coach for the bears.

sometimes a bad team is a bad team.   a good coach can make a bad team look good for a while.   a great coach can make a bad team play good consistently.

in the case of Nagy, they did have some good seasons in chicago even though they didnt have the qb play.    so I'm not 100% sure hes a bad coach.  I just dont think hes a great coach. and he might be a good coach as that bears team did perform for him at least for a while.

I think he deserves another shot.   New Orleans has its own problems though.   they are tight to the cap and I think they may not be able to keep all their pending free agents.   so unless they can reload successfully in the draft he may struggle with that team.

I think he's a good coordinator that has skills that don't translate to head coach.  Coordinator and head coach are different skill sets, but teams can't seem to figure that out.

An OC needs to be a tactician and be able to make a game plan and help develop a QB.

A head coach needs to be able to build a culture, lead, organize, hold people accountable, and manage a game.  They have to be very comfortable with conflict.  They also need to understand the game like a coordinator as well, but the job is different.

It's just like in any industry.  Not everyone is cut out to lead.  Leaders have to be comfortable with holding people accountable and command a room.  A guy who is great at putting his head down and writing SW or a guy who is a great salesman isn't necessarily the best guy to lead a team.  Not a lot of people have that gear (even though many people think they do).

Adam Gase is a prime example.  There is no way in hell that guy should've ever been a head coach.  Hue Jackson is another good example.  I watched him on hard knocks and that guy is not a head coach.  You could see no one respected him, and what's more, he knew he shouldn't be head coach either.  He carried himself like someone cos-playing a head coach and was a terrible leader.  He was walking imposter syndrome.  Matt Patricia is another example.  Joe Judge is another example.  Kingsbury another.

That's Nagy, too.  Good at Xs and Os.  Suboptimal leading.

Man, I haven't been keeping up with the news lately, but surprised Dallas is on there.  I thought I heard a story that they denied the Bears permission to interview him or something like that.

What a bunch of terrible jobs.  I guess Chicago is the best one.  You presumably have your quarterback, and if you can build a line, you should do well.

Dallas has Jerrah

Jacksonville should be decent, but Khan and Balke

Vegas fires coaches every year, and have no QB prospects.

New Orleans is in cap hell

Jets are dysfunctional

I guess if you don't want a long term solution and plan to replace the head coach every year or two (which the Raiders seem to do), hiring a 74 year-old head coach is not a bad idea.

Not much to know.  His other notable in the NFL is OC for the SB winning 2022 Rams.  We shall see.
