I have wondered why they don’t build bigger reservoirs in these drought areas for when they get crazy amounts of rain that just runs off. That seems like something that should be done in lots of places that are low on water and have a shitton of people.

LOL

These were voted on and funded back in 2014 and never built.

Of course they could have done more. Of course there were mistakes made, and incompetence, and of course life long politicians like Newsom and Bass are going try to cover their butts afterwards and try to paint things in the best possible light. What else is new?

But guys like @Strike are taking all this to another level and attempting to make the argument that it is liberalism or the Democratic Party that is at fault, or woke ideology, or whatever. And they are further implying that if we only had conservatives and Republicans in charge a lot of this could have been prevented. I think that’s crap and I think it’s in really bad taste even to make the argument.

Even repeating Trump lies about the Delta Smelt. Garbage people.

Biden truly is tone deaf. Even Squid and Tim have to be upset with that demented joke.

After briefing the public on the federal government’s plan to help local officials during the disaster, Biden gave the floor to Vice President Kamala Harris, who hails from California, and made a quick joke.

"Madam Vice President, I know you're directly affected. So you fire away, no pun intended," Biden said grinning.

Yeah Biden is truly tone deaf. However he does not deliberately make cruel remarks, Trump does. Trump is not tone deaf; when he’s being an a$$hole he’s aware of it.

For the most part Biden has acted Presidential here. He didn’t immediately respond to this crisis by attacking and blaming. We’re in for a long 4 years.

Liberals throughout the country have shown time and again they are incapable of competent leadership in executive positions.

It's not 100% false tho:

Quote

In 2014, a divided panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Judge Wanger.[40] While the new biological opinion was "a ponderous, chaotic document, overwhelming in size", it was found not arbitrary and capricious.[41] The Ninth Circuit affirmed that the water projects were jeopardizing the existence of the delta smelt, and given TVA v. Hill's command that endangered species must be saved "whatever the cost", Circuit Judge Jay Bybee opined that California could only use the smelts' water after receiving an exemption from the God Squad.[42] In January 2015 the U.S. Supreme Court declined review without comment.[43]

Quote

In more recent developments, the Trump administration's 2019 rollback of environmental protections, including changes to the Endangered Species Act, led to renewed legal battles over the delta smelt's habitat protection. Critics argued that the revised rules weakened critical safeguards for species like the delta smelt by prioritizing water deliveries to agriculture over the preservation of essential ecosystems. Environmental groups filed lawsuits challenging these regulatory changes, claiming that the rollback would further endanger the already critically low delta smelt population.[30] The legal back-and-forth continued under the Biden administration, which signaled a return to stronger protections for endangered species, including the delta smelt. In 2021, federal agencies began revisiting the rollback of these water and species protections, but debates between agricultural interests and conservation groups remain ongoing.[28]

Stronger protections for smelt = lack of reservoirs. Crucial for the smelt, but fock you and your house.

Quote

Water management and flow regulation

The management of water resources in California has long been at odds with the conservation of delta smelt. Water diversions for agricultural and urban uses have significantly reduced the freshwater flows that are crucial for maintaining the delta smelt's habitat. Regulatory measures, such as the enforcement of flow restrictions and the establishment of critical habitat areas, have been implemented to ensure that sufficient freshwater reaches key delta smelt habitats, especially during dry years.[30] Despite these efforts, balancing the competing demands for water remains a challenge, and legal battles over water allocation continue to play a central role in delta smelt conservation.[47]

You know I used to enjoy watching this fantasy football show with Eric Dickerson, because whatever projections he made about players that week, I could count on things going the other way. I knew if he advised starting somebody, that was the week to sit him down and start somebody else.

You serve the same role for me here.

Link to me saying anything you're attributing to me above?  I think my criticism has been VERY pointed and directed at Bass and Newsom.  I don't care about party.  I care about competence and results.

I wrote “implied” because it is. You only attack Democrats. If competence is all you care about then link to when you’ve ever attacked a conservative or Republican.

Megyn Kelly is free to express herself.  Heck, she is free to do porn and I might well watch.  But in this instance her exprerssion seems a bit dumb.  i doubt Miss Kelly has ever gone on camera without first having gone through wardrobe, makeup, and hair people.  That she wants to criticize some other vain monkey for doing the same seems out of place.  Leave those types of criticism to us regular folk who leave the house without a team of folks getting us ready to face the world.  Hell the only help I get in facing the world is from Jack Daniels and Johnny Walker

BTW Megyn, if you want me to pay more attention to your podcase back that cameera up and pan it down to take in your legs, which should be on full display.  Really they are the most interesting thing about you.

I can only attack those responsible.  I have never mentioned party.  It's idiotic of you to suggest I'm ONLY attacking Dems when Dems are literally the only people I can attack in CA.   The GOP has ZERO say in CA.  Don't be an idiot.

Might?  The entire purpose of their feelings is to be hurt so they can then be used as a bludgeon to assail folks like yourself.  Unfortunately it turns out that when they use their feelings as a bludgeon, the bludgeon turns out to be illusory, a threat only.  It cannot hurt the righteous.

I read that the last new reservoir built in CA was in something like 1978.  Even if just to account for population growth they should have built some more.

Any idea how much that ballot measure cost each resident in taxes?  Was it added on as an additional sales tax or something?   Tied to property taxes?

Sorry boyo correct me. When was the first fire in LA county that destroyed over 10k homes?

As if that is in any manner relevant.  Would 5 k homes not matter?  What about 4 K homes and 100 businesses?  What about if a fire was only half in LA county and half elsewhere.  You are looking for artificial parameters to make a point, which, frankly, anyone with a modicum of sense can see is stupid. (Oh, since you are stupid, please know that the word "modicum" has nothing to do with gizz.)

Not caused.  LA is dense and Santa Anas are nasty. They're gonna have fires.    But the policies have made this magnitudes worse than it should have been.

From the Prop 1 page:

Quote

The Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 (Proposition 1) authorizes $7.545 billion in general obligation bonds to fund ecosystems and watershed protection and restoration, water supply infrastructure projects, including surface and groundwater storage, and drinking water protection.

Bonds include money that is borrowed. Over 2 billion of the allocated funds go to protecting rivers, lakes, streams from environmental factors (smelt is one example), only 8 million for regional water security. 83% of Californian's rely on groundwater and reservoirs for water needs.

The bonds to be paid back to investors over 40 years. We're 10 years in and they haven't done shiite but protect fish or other wildlife.
