CNN is reporting that on Monday Trump met with CEOs of Lowes, Target, Walmart and Home Depot, who told him that his Tariffs were going to cause "Empty Shelves" in their stores as early as this summer.

Businesses are panicking, and that's why he took a softer tone last night regarding tariffs, although hasn't really changed anything.

His ideas are going to drive America into the ground.

There have already been supply chain interruptions. It will be felt this summer, 60-90 days.

It's already being felt by small business.   He doesn't have much time left to declare victory and remove all the tariffs.

This will be over soon. Don will cave. There will be some minor wins which will be presented as the greatest thing to ever happen. Everyone give him a juice and cookie and tell him how great he did. Then hopefully back to the normal politics of this WH - complaining about the media, unfair treatment, and tax cuts - and perhaps we can have a more calm year of this dipshit and the only chaos is his daily rant on Twitter about meaningless stuff that winds up people.

The House goes blue next election and then it’s two years of scrambling for the future leaders.

We’ll be lucky if we get out of this. Again.

What liberal wanted companies to have smaller profits? None that I know. Link?

I think in a very poor way he's saying during the election liberals were saying that companies(for various reasons) were price gouging and wanted to stop that, IE have companies take smaller profits. At least that's how I read what he's saying.

I don't find it to be a valid argument though, our govt working to make sure it's citizens aren't getting ripped off by companies using a national emergency to price gouge, lower the prices and make less money, is not the same as having companies take less profits, because they didn't increase prices due to imported goods costing more from tariffs---that were imposed by the govt.

I hope that made sense, I'm still on my first cup of coffee.

I'm not MAGA.  I'm tired of overreacting and fear mongering though.  That's all either sides seems to do.  Very little problem solving, just pissing and moaning.

If only there was some organization, one devoted to trade and global jurisdiction, maybe one even created by the US, where trade disputes could be brought in an orderly, boring, processed fashion & without dragging partisanship into it.

Yes actually, we created the system for our benefit. But my point is if people don’t like the rancor, disruption & panic associated with screwing with global financial markets & the supply chain they should stay away from populist politicians who promise & do just that.

I don't give a shite any more.  I use to care more about that but it's a waste of time.  Biden sucked and Trump sucks.

Could have fooled me, what with all your disingenuous pearl clutching about panic and whining since November.

I've heard this debate and it came up in Covid. The main point of the debate is that if we go to war with China we will be up sh1+s creek. I don't think it's unreasonable, but by the same token a trade war with China increases the likelihood we go to war with China and economic integration lessens it.

The answer to this is probably regulation, but guess who doesn't like that.

I'm tired of it all.  Regardless of who is President, it's nothing from whining from someone.  Nothing ever seems to get done, just pointing fingers.

See my last point. Congress can easily require that medications or certain of them be made here. But Republicans and many Dems don't, they won't, and Big Pharma would raise holy hell.

The other people that will object are consumers: these same medications will go way up in price. The Feds will have to subsidize medicine.

It's a tangle.

It's probably easier to maintain relations with countries that we rely on for trade, instead of insulting them, threatening them and tariffing them.  But what do I know.  I've never bankrupted a casino or been found guilty of fraud.

I’ve been pretty clear: the tariffs are the problem. The rest of Trump’s economic policies are OK- not what I would do, but not especially disastrous either. The tariffs are going to drive us into the ground. They’ve already done lots of damage, enough so that we will all feel some pain this summer. They will accomplish nothing good. If Trump backs down soon things will be OK. If he doesn’t, we’re going to be in big trouble.

You can call this panicking if you want. I call it reasonable analysis.

China used to howl they hated the WTO because the US controlled the majority on the top commission. Trump hasn't even bothered to appoint the commissioners. The whole point is conflict on the global and US media and frankly many Americans love it.

I'm really surprised you say this and I think you know. They have publicly funded health care.
